A Better Building Experience.

About us

At Shawmut Design and Construction, we promise our clients a better building experience. As an award-winning construction management firm, we are dedicated to outperforming expectations every day—a responsibility we take seriously as employee-owners and a promise we make to each one of our partners. Right from the start—all the way to the ribbon cutting—we promise our clients a building experience that’s the very best. Winning for clients is our passion. We succeed when our clients enjoy the building process as much as the building itself. To be the best, we need to cultivate the best talent. We work to create an inclusive environment where everyone reaches their fullest potential, with a Diversity Leadership Council driving our journey toward diversity, equity, and inclusion. Shawmut is 100% employee-owned which means every employee has a vested interest in the success of the company and the success of our clients’ projects. As part owners through the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), each employee takes pride in being part of a talent-driven and leading-edge organization focused on delivering exceptional client service.

  • This summer, we welcomed more than 55 interns to our offices across the country, where they're learning from our employee-owners, building new skills, and experiencing firsthand what a career in the construction industry can look like. To celebrate #NationalInternDay, we asked employee-owners who began their own Shawmut journeys as interns to share advice with this year's intern class—from making the most of every opportunity to building relationships and staying curious. 🔗 Read what they had to say below or in our newsroom here: https://lnkd.in/gbdqV9XB Thank you to Gabriela Pollack, Ryan Zraunig, and Frantzley Paul for sharing! #ShawmutProud

  • Congratulations to our partners at Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment for the Modelo Bridge at Barclays Center winning the ALSD Premium Experience (PX) Award for Purposeful Partnership Activation.  The two-level gathering space, accessible to all guests, transforms the west end of the arena into a high-energy hub for halftime performances, fan events, and ongoing brand engagement. Paying tribute to Brooklyn, the Modelo Bridge features a raised platform inspired by the iconic bridges that connect the borough, locally commissioned artwork, and stonework sourced from the same quarry as the Brooklyn Bridge.  🔗 Read more about the Modelo Bridge and the ALSD award here: https://lnkd.in/eXDuBWcY  #ShawmutBuilt

  • FM's new 320,000-square-foot Science and Technology Center anchors a fully redeveloped 17-acre campus in Norwood, Massachusetts. Delivered in partnership with Hobbs Brook Real Estate and PAYETTE, the state-of-the-art, all-electric facility incorporates high-performance systems and resilient infrastructure designed for long-term performance. The redevelopment includes 221 geothermal wells extending more than 600 feet below grade, miles of underground infrastructure, and a 930-space precast parking structure, while targeting LEED Gold and WELL Bronze certifications. Take a look back at the transformation. #ShawmutBuilt

  • More than 150 years after they first shaped the Brattle Street streetscape, Reed Hall (1873) and Burnham Hall (1879) are entering a new chapter as the heart of Lesley University's South Campus, with their restoration and rehabilitation recognized with a 2026 Cambridge Historical Commission Preservation Award. Working alongside Lesley, Centerbrook Architects and Planners, and our trade partners, Shawmut helped restore and rehabilitate these Victorian Gothic buildings while carefully preserving the architectural character that has long contributed to this historic Cambridge neighborhood.  Delivering that vision required: • Restoring historic masonry, chimneys, and decorative brickwork with meticulous attention to original materials and detailing. • Revealing long-concealed timber trusses and arched openings by removing decades of alterations. • Integrating modern accessibility, energy-efficient upgrades, and new underground infrastructure without compromising the buildings' historic fabric. • Creating welcoming spaces that support Lesley University's students while preparing these historic buildings for generations to come. Congratulations to Lesley University, Centerbrook, and the entire project team on this well-deserved recognition. #ShawmutBuilt

  • At the new home for the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, flexibility isn't just part of the programming—it's built into the building itself. With 20 movable audience galleries, reconfigurable stage platforms, and 53 overhead rigging line sets supporting scenery, lighting, and sound, nearly every element of the building's larger theater has been engineered to adapt to each production's creative vision. Delivering that level of flexibility requires extraordinary planning and coordination. Working alongside Haworth Tompkins, ARC/ Architectural Resources Cambridge, Charcoalblue, and Harvard Capital Projects, the project team is integrating specialized theater systems with the building's mass timber structure to create a venue unlike any other. In this behind-the-scenes look, Senior Project Manager Caitlin Bernal takes us inside the West Stage to share how thoughtful constructability and technical expertise are helping bring this one-of-a-kind performance space to life. 🔗 Learn more about the new A.R.T. here: https://lnkd.in/eTmateCV. #ShawmutBuilt
