We had the pleasure of taking our Staff and Board Members to the newly completed Big Dry Creek Restoration project in the City of Westminster. This is a project we are proud to be apart of - beyond reducing flood risk, it has transformed stream corridor into a space that supports wildlife, provides numerous community amenities, and has created a beautiful space for the neighborhood to enjoy. This is a great example of good intentions on a project leading to better ecological results. The intention here was, "How do we take the space and the context we have to work with, and optimize our outcomes"? One of those outcomes was ecological health - and here the team took the opportunity to preserve an existing oxbow and feed it with discharges from a newly constructed water quality basin so the mature vegetation could survive and thrive. Nice work on this project by Olsson, Stream Landscape Architecture + Planning, IRIS MITIGATION AND DESIGN INC., Naranjo Civil Constructors, and Western States Reclamation that was designed and built in partnership with the City of Westminster and the Mile High Flood District.

Construction is well underway on the Lee Gulch at Broadway Improvements Project in City of Littleton. What began as an urgent need to replace a failing culvert beneath Broadway quickly became an opportunity to do more. The existing culvert, which carries Lee Gulch under Broadway, had experienced significant deterioration and settlement, creating concerns about long-term reliability, road stability, and public safety. Working closely with the City of Littleton and project partners, we accelerated the design and construction process to address this critical piece of infrastructure. But while we were beneath the roadway, we asked a bigger question: How can we make this project be better for the community? The answer was to pair the culvert replacement with a long-planned pedestrian underpass, creating a safer connection along the Lee Gulch Regional Trail and eliminating the need for trail users to detour or attempt to cross a busy road.  The project includes:  ✔️ Replacement of the aging Lee Gulch drainage culvert  ✔️ A new pedestrian underpass beneath Broadway  ✔️ Improved flood resilience and infrastructure reliability  ✔️ Enhanced safety and connectivity for trail users Thank you to our project partners: the City of Littleton, Arapahoe County South Suburban Park and Recreation District, Muller Engineering Company, Stream Landscape Architecture + Planning, and BT Construction, Inc. - Colorado, for helping bring this important project to life.
