"Elite Climbers Compete at The North Face Climb Festival" Gripped Magazine "The one day one qualifiers saw some of the world's best go head to head up a 14-metre wall with no ropes. The North Face Climb Festival took place this past weekend at the Royal Docks in East London, bringing together some of the world’s top climbers, including members of The North Face athlete team. More than 35,000 free tickets were reserved online in the weeks leading up to the highly anticipated festival. The festival centres around a 14-metre-tall deep-water-solo wall suspended over the water, with multiple shoreline viewing areas capable of accommodating thousands of spectators. Today’s programme featured the qualifying rounds under sunny skies, with climbers including Shawn Raboutou and Molly Thompson-Smith competing. Away from the competition, the festival featured workshops, athlete talks and film screenings. Alex Honnold and Brooke Raboutou led a bouldering workshop, while alpinist Fay Manners hosted a session on building your own climbing route. Stefano Ghisolfi introduced a screening of 4x9Bs, documenting his 2025 ascents of The Full Journey, Sleeping Lion, Neanderthal and Ratstaman Vibrations, all graded 9b (5.15b). The competition field also included several popular YouTube creators, including Emil Abrahamsson and parkour brothers Ben and Toby Segar." Brandon Pullan https://lnkd.in/ddQrVcYu

  • "The outdoor industry's appetite for extreme content has never been greater—but what changes on expeditions when adventure becomes content?" Field Mag "There is a telling moment in The North Face’s latest mountaineering documentary, Trango. As Christina Lustenberger, Jim Morrison, and Nick McNutt make an attempt to ascend the film's namesake 20,623-foot Pakistani peak, they observe an avalanche roar down from the vertiginous upper glacier and cascade off a cliff towards a gully in the direction of several members of the support team. Thanks in part to the growing prestige of the outdoor documentary genre, content creation has increasingly become part of elite athletes' sponsorship packages. Free Solo won Best Documentary Feature at the 2019 Oscars, and this January, 6.2 million people tuned in live to watch Alex Honnold climb the 1,667-foot Taipei Tower without ropes in Netflix's Skyscraper Live. It can feel strange and antithetical, in a sport renowned for its purist, dirtbag ethos, to have such spectacles consumed by vast audiences." Field Mag https://lnkd.in/gFgJ5U9Q

  • Alex Honnold Named to TIME Magazine's Inaugural TIME100 Sports List. TIME named The North Face athlete Alex Honnold to the inaugural 2026 TIME100 Sports list, recognizing 100 of the most influential figures shaping the global sports landscape. "Alex Honnold is our modern-day Evel Knievel, with his death-defying feats bringing him world renown. The American rock climber rose to prominence when he scaled El Capitan in Yosemite National Park without ropes or safety gear in 2017—a feat featured in the Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo. In January, Honnold climbed the tallest building in Taiwan, a 101-story structure, for a livestreamed event on Netflix. The spectacle drew 6.2 million views in its first weekend, making it the third-most watched English-language program for the week on the streamer. When he was close to the top, Honnold—who began climbing at a gym in Sacramento at age 5—dangled off the side of the building. “No!!!!” a commentator screamed on the broadcast. “Why?!” On Jimmy Kimmel Live 10 days later, Honnold chalked up the terrifying move to “style points.” “You’ve just got to play a little bit,” he said. The Olympic U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team's Apparel Is Getting a Makeover by The North Face." Rolling Stone "The outdoor brand just announced an eight-year partnership with USSS — and unveiled a stylish consumer collection coming in the fall. Just like the broader fashion world, ski and snowboard clothing has seen a return to early Oughts styles in recent years, with baggy pants, graphic hoodies, and tees slowly replacing minimal, tech-y gear. Now, that style has reached the sport’s summit. The North Face was just announced as the Official Performance Apparel Partner of U.S. Ski & Snowboard, bringing its signature streetwear-inspired look to the next two Winter Olympics.” We won’t see The North Face’s U.S. Ski & Snowboard kits on Olympic athletes until the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in the French Alps, but a commercially available collection inspired by the USSS gear will hit shelves in the fall of this year. The large collection includes hoodies, T-shirts, and even specialized bags for all your snow gear." Rolling Stone https://lnkd.in/gKNhvTp3
