Five years ago I saw batteries as a cornerstone of the energy transition and co-founded Kyon Energy. Today I see e-Methane the same way and I will help TURN2X to build up a European e-Methane platform. Together with my co-founders, we built Kyon into Germany's leading battery developer, bringing more than 3 GW of battery storage projects across 40+ sites to ready-to-build status, with another 1.2 GW currently under construction. That journey ultimately led to Kyon becoming part of TotalEnergies. I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed along the way — our team, partners, customers, and supporters. What we achieved together would not have been possible without you. It was an incredible time!   But the energy transition is far from finished.   My past work was about electrons. I'm now convinced the next frontier is molecules, and, above all, the combination of the two. Electrons, stored in batteries, are unbeatable at balancing the grid over hours. But large parts of our industry, shipping and aviation can't run on electrons alone — they need fuels of high energy density. In addition there are many times over the course of the year where we have oversupply of electrons which we would need to store long-term. This is where e-Methane comes in — the molecule that completes the system. It's complementary to batteries, not competing: a storable, transportable form of energy that takes volatility out of the system over days, weeks and entire seasons. It can be produced flexibly wherever cheap renewable power is abundant and distributed through Europe's existing gas infrastructure without any changes. This helps us to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors and at the same time make us less dependent on fossil gas imports. There's one more lesson I'm carrying over from batteries. Early on, the technology looked expensive. But costs fell faster than almost anyone expected, and at some point the economics simply made sense. I'm convinced e-Methane is on the same trajectory and the steepest part of that cost curve is still ahead of us. But none of this happens on its own. It has to be built. TURN2X is one of the early movers in this space, with validated technology, existing customers, and a growing project pipeline. Combined with the regulatory and market developments we're seeing across Europe, I believe this is a unique moment to help build a category-defining company. So this is the challenge I'm taking on next, together with TURN2X. I'm investing in the company and will lead their development efforts across Europe hands-on. More details on this soon. Five years ago, I believed batteries would become a cornerstone of the energy transition. Today, I believe e-Methane will become another. I'm excited to help build it with TURN2X.

We are proud that one of our flagship projects in Spain won the EU hydrogen auction! One of only 9 projects selected from whole Europe in an auction which was 7x oversubscribed. 🇪🇺 The EU still imports around 90% of it's gas, with a big portion coming from the US, Qatar and Russia. Our plant in Extremadura, one of Spain's most solar-rich regions, will turn surplus renewable electricity into clean, sovereign e-Methane that flows directly into the gas infrastructure Europe already has. The timing could not be better: With FuelEU Maritime, RED III and recent regulatory drivers now in force, there is huge demand for e-Methane across Europe. Our platform in Spain targets to address that. When operational, this will be the largest e-Methane plant in the world. Huge thanks to the European Commission, our partners, and every TURN2X team member who got us here. The path to genuine European energy independence runs through projects like this one.

Yesterday, the German Bundestag passed a law that changes everything for TURN2X We've spent the last years building the technology, built up the project pipeline, the partnerships, and the certification stack for e-Methane. Yesterday, Germany unlocked >8 TWh of additional demand for e-Methane and other electric fuels alone. With a penalty of around 14 EUR / kg-hydrogen (equivalent to >400 EUR / MWh e-Methane) it is one of the most attractive markets to sell into right now. The new THG-Quote mandates oil companies to cut the CO₂ intensity of their fuels by 65% by 2040. Most of this reduction will be done by switching from combustion engine cars to electric ones which is the right path, but for the millions of long haul trucks they can be powered by e-LNG / e-Methane to cut their emissions. TURN2X is one of the only companies in Europe that has a commercial plant up and running and has built up a pipeline of e-Methane projects to fullfil this demand. We have secured CO2 partnerships and built up a pipeline of projects and off-takers willing to serve this market. The good thing, Germany is not the only market we can serve. More than 10 countries have already implemented mandatory RFNBO sub-quotas. Because e-Methane is the only electric fuel that can be transported via mass balance through the existing gas grid, supply can always be routed to the highest-paying market. No risk of stranded assets. No single-regulation dependency. This is a structural advantage no other electric fuel has as of now. There is a huge window of opportunity now to execute against this. It's time to build!

We are proud to partner with Titan Clean Fuels one of the leading companies to provide net-zero fuels to the shipping sector. Already in 2024 they were on of the parties which achieved the largest ship-to-ship liquid methane (at that point biomethane) delivery to Hapag-Lloyd AG. Together we believe that liquified e-Methane (also called e-LNG) will be the key fuel to decarbonize shipping as it has: 1️⃣ Highest energy density of all fuels (30% more than e-Methanol and 2x more than ammonia) 2️⃣ Largest and growing asset base of alternative fuel ships (>1500 existing and > 900 in the order books vs 70 existing for e-Methanol and 3 for Ammonia) 3️⃣ Lowest decarbonization pathway via fossil LNG -> bio-LNG -> e-LNG pathway compared to other alternative fuels Looking forward to further working together with Caspar Gooren, Grégoire Hartig and the whole Titan team!

Off-take agreement signed with TURN2X to supply e-Methane to shipping ♻️   We’re pleased to announce this partnership with TURN2X. By combining renewable fuel production in Spain with Titan’s bunkering network, we’re continuing to bring scalable, green fuel solutions to the maritime industry.   Philip Kessler, CEO of TURN2X, commented: "We are happy to partner up with Titan and Molgas Energy Group, leaders in clean marine fuels, to decarbonise the shipping industry with e-Methane, the fuel of choice for more and more companies in the maritime sector." Caspar Gooren, our Commercial Director of Renewable Fuels, said: “TURN2X are true green fuel pioneers and we are excited by the significant potential of this partnership. Its team’s approach to e-Methane supply is scalable: the green fuel can be produced in regions with high volumes of low-cost renewable electricity, injected into the existing gas grid, and delivered in ports where maritime off-takers need it.” Titan operates seven bunker vessels and is able to deliver in around 52 ports today, so the new e-Methane agreement can help to significantly scale up green marine fuel supply. 12 months injection achieved! Europe's (if not the worlds) first sustained commercial e-Methane grid injection, and we're just getting started! TURN2X and D.C. Gas Extremadura S.A. are proud to announce a landmark milestone: our e-Methane plant has been continuously injecting renewable gas into the Gas Extremadura distribution grid for 12 consecutive months. This is not a one off pilot or demo, this is a full year of ongoing, commercial operation. What makes this significant: ✅ First continuous e-Methane grid injection in Europe, now at 12 months ✅ Renewable molecules directly displacing fossil gas in the Extremadura network ✅ Real-world learnings on grid integration, certification, and operations, directly applicable to the scale-up of e-Methane and biomethane across Spain and a strong proof that our modular and load flexible technology is working ✅ Proof that existing gas grid infrastructure is a decarbonisation asset, not a liability Twelve months of operation have generated data, insights, and confidence that the renewable gas sector in Spain needs to grow. We are proud to be building that foundation, together with Gas Extremadura. Given the current spike in gas prices we see again how dependent we are on fossil gas imports and we are proud to set the base together with Gas Extremadura to make Europe more resilient. #eMethane #RenewableGas #Decarbonisation #EnergyTransition #Biomethane #Spain #CleanEnergy #GreenHydrogen #TURN2X #GasExtremadura

TURN2X, Siemens, and Atmen have built the first end-to-end blueprint for certified, commercial-scale renewable gas production to make Europe more resilient to fossil natural gas imports. Last week, the German Bundestag advanced with the RED III transposition which introduces explicit mandatory quotas for electric fuels ("RFNBOs") in the German transport sector. Separately, the leading coalition is pushing a green gas quota for the heating sector, with suppliers required to blend rising shares of renewable gas from 2029. Adding to that the EU's ReFuelEU and hydrogen mandates, and a massive structural demand wave for certified, sovereign green gas is now created. The current oil and gas spikes due to the war Iran make it even more clear now that we need to move as fast as possible to clean and sovereign sources of natural gas. At TURN2X, this is exactly what we are building together with our partners. Our first commercial e-Methane plant in Miajadas, Spain is fully operational. The output is sold under bankable long-term offtake agreements. This is not a pilot or just a demo, it is a real commercial plant which is fully ISCC certified. And now we've published the blueprint for how to scale it. Together with Siemens and Atmen, we've built the first end-to-end model for RED III-ready renewable gas production: Siemens provides the industrial automation backbone and digital twin infrastructure. Atmen automates RFNBO certification, turning operational data into continuous, auditable compliance. This is a replicable factory model for sovereign green gas at scale. As our CTO Dominik Schollenberger puts it: "When intelligent operations and built-in compliance come together, e-Methane can scale with the reliability our customers expect." The plant of the future isn't a vision. It's running today in Spain, 🔗 Full story in the comments.
