  • Late payments are frustrating. But the bigger issue is unpredictability when you can’t reliably tell what will pay early, on time, or late. That’s why the warning signs aren’t just about aging. They’re about visibility, prioritization, and whether collections activity is connected to forecast inputs. 👉 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/exR4PiZ5

  • What does it really take to thrive in a distributed workplace? It's about more than working remotely, it's about intentionally building connection, trust, and a culture where people can do their best work, wherever they are. The new Distributed Work Index is designed to help leaders better understand the attributes that contribute to success in distributed teams, while also highlighting important insights around belonging, engagement, and burnout that can't be overlooked. A big congratulations to our Chief People Officer, Orit Kendal and team for bringing this research to life. If you're building or leading a distributed team, we encourage you to explore the Index and see what it reveals.

I've worked distributed long enough to know most companies ask the wrong question. Not: can someone thrive without an office. But: have we built something worth thriving in. Carey OConnor Kolaja and I are excited to launch the Distributed Work Index — a tool to help you understand whether someone is actually wired for this way of working. Culture used to be ambient. Now it has to be built on purpose. It lived in office snacks, in who you sat near, in minutes before a meeting started. You didn't have to design connection. It was just there, whether you wanted it or not. What's emerged in distributed work is better, but harder: curated experience. Belonging now has to be built with intention — how we bring teams together in person, how we structure the moments that used to happen by accident, how we make people feel seen when there's no hallway run in. That's not a downgrade. It's just a different discipline, one most leadership teams haven't been trained for, and my colleagues and I at Versapay work at daily. The hidden burnout finding didn't surprise me. It confirmed something I've seen. Our data showed that 3 out of 4 of our highest-scoring employees on distributed work attributes were carrying markers for this. Not the people struggling with the model — the people who look like they've got it. I've watched this happen to real people, not just a dataset. The ones who never miss a beat remotely are usually the ones quietly doing the office's old job for it — filling the small talk, the transitions, the check-ins no one scheduled. Self-reliance by necessity, which, unwatched, goes into isolation fast. If the Index tells us who's wired for distributed work, our job as leaders is to make sure "wired for it" never quietly becomes "carrying it alone." Hiring for this is harder than it looks. We used to worry about whether someone could self-direct. Now we also have to worry about deep fakes and increasing fraud. Verifying a real human on the other side of an interview has become its own discipline. Newer employees face this too — building trust under daily attacks, with none of the early-career reps the rest of us got by accident. Still possible remotely. Just has to be built, not assumed. The Distributed Work Index is genuinely useful — it's something our field has needed for a long time, and I'm proud of what we built. But an instrument alone doesn't create belonging. It creates a better-informed starting point. The work after that — the curated experience, the watching for hidden burnout, the deliberate rebuilding of what an office used to do— that's still ours to do. No index does that for you. Thank you Carey OConnor Kolaja for pushing on this question with me and making the case that data and intuition don't have to compete — they're supposed to work the same shift. If you are leading in a distributed environment or wonder if you are built for it, take the Index and see the type of insights it kicks back: https://lnkd.in/gXUKhsiH

  • Collections teams are under more pressure than ever. According to the 2026 Cash Flow Clarity Report, 74% of finance teams spend a moderate or significant amount of time each week chasing late payments, and 81% say they have significant difficulty collecting outstanding receivables. At the same time, late payments, longer payment terms, and payment plan requests are becoming more common, making collections harder to manage with manual processes alone. That’s why modern finance teams need more than effort. They need clarity, visibility, and a better way to prioritize the work that moves cash forward. Next week, Jodi Bergman and Andrew Ceccorulli of Laticrete will share what a more reliable, scalable collections process can look like! 📅 Wednesday, July 15, 2026 🕐 1:00–1:45 PM EDT 🔗 Save your spot: https://bit.ly/4eD17T0

  • Most finance teams aren't struggling to get paid, they're struggling to put that cash to work. That "last mile" between payment receipt and usable cash is often filled with manual reconciliation, disconnected systems, and unnecessary delays. It's an overlooked challenge with a real impact on cash flow. Our Chief Payments & Customer Operations Officer, Barrett Smith, explores why fixing the final stretch of the AR process may be one of the biggest opportunities for finance leaders today. Read his latest Forbes Finance Council article below. ⬇️

Funny how the term "last mile" keeps finding me. I first heard it constantly coming out of my MBA in the late '90s, when it was the big unsolved problem in telecom - getting connectivity that final stretch from the network to the door. Nearly three decades later, I'm writing about a different last mile: the gap between when a customer pays an invoice and when that cash is actually usable. Turns out the pattern repeats. Companies modernize the flashy front half of a process and leave the unglamorous final stretch broken. In AR, that means cash sitting stuck for reasons that have nothing to do with strategy and everything to do with basic reconciliation.
