From the moment WHOOP became worth $10B to the moment I first finished the Whoop business plan. Close to 14 years apart. I remember taking a picture of this business plan in a delirious state having stayed up all night writing it. “You’re going to want to remember this.” I really didn’t know what I was doing when I started Whoop. I was 22 yo, naive and inexperienced, and somehow all of that turned out to be helpful. If you want to start something and you look at any success I’ve had and you say “well I can’t do that,” just know that I couldn’t do it either when I first started. The entrepreneur’s journey is a lonely and hard one, you’ll face more rejection than you have ever had in your life. But you get better as it gets harder. And IT IS WORTH IT. POV: You open WHOOP to log a workout, come across the activity “Hot Dog Challenge,” and you’re thinking “Is this seriously an activity I can log?!” Yes, this really is activity in the app. And the story on how it got there is actually a pretty good one. It actually started with a very serious debate: Who wins in a hot-dog-then-sprint race… Usain Bolt or Joey Chestnut? An elite sprinter vs an elite eater, who has the edge? What began as a ridiculous question between a few WHOOP employees turned into something much more interesting… a real performance experiment. Because at WHOOP, we can’t leave questions unanswered (especially the weird ones). So we added the activity to the app. The Hot Dog Challenge is exactly what it sounds like. You eat a hot dog, then measure what happens when you try to run. That will certainly put some strain on your body and it will all be captured in real data. This may have started as a joke, but it became a way to explore something real. How does your body respond when you fuel it… like that? The unexpected best part was the WHOOP community ran with it. Not only questioning why this was in the app, but also using it as a placeholder for other more explicit activities. So if you’ve been wondering… now you know. 🌭

ICYMI: Strength training matters for women at every stage—not just now, but over time. Last week, we brought together some of the WHOOP Research team and local [solidcore] coaches to talk about women’s strength and longevity at an intimate event for WHOOP members. The panel included WHOOP Sr Research Scientists, Summer Jasinski, Ursula Beattie, Ph.D. and [solidcore] Head Coach & Community Manager, Tiasa Kim. These women had a lively discussion, and focused on how strength training supports women at every stage—building a foundation early to support bone and joint health, adapting training through hormonal changes like perimenopause and menopause, and recognizing that consistency and recovery play as much of a role as effort. The takeaway we’re bringing to LinkedIn: train for what’s coming, not just what you can do today. After the panel, we closed the evening with a [solidcore] class at a studio near HQ—putting that into practice alongside our members.
