From today on we will see that the environmental impacts of solar PV electricity are even lower than we thought!!!☀️It’s not magic—it is the result of updated Life Cycle Inventories that finally reflect two decades of technological and productivity gains. We at the Techno-economic and ecologic analyses team from Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE are happy to have contributed our Industry-validated modelling data for PV manufacturing, including a full update of the PV factories and facilities inventories (infrastructure). 📄 Research Highlight: Practical LCL Filter Sizing for Photovoltaic Parks We are pleased to highlight a recent publication in Technologies MDPI: "Modeling and Implementation of a Practical Methodology to Size LCL Filter in a Photovoltaic Park" by Judith Gálvez-García, Vicente Torres-García, Juan Ramón Rodríguez, José Ángel Barrios, and Alberto Cavazos. As renewable energy integration accelerates, harmonic injection and resonance issues pose critical challenges to grid stability. This paper addresses these challenges by presenting a practical sizing methodology for LCL filters in high-capacity modular power systems. Our article, presented at IEEE GPECOM 2026 and indexed by CPCI, has been published on IEEE Xplore. We developed a model that integrates hybrid renewable energy sources with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), achieving a 60.4% reduction in peak load demand for commercial buildings. These results demonstrate our model's potential for significantly enhancing energy efficiency and optimizing grid performance. Global installed PV capacity is approaching 𝟯 𝗧𝗪, TOPCon continues to dominate mass production, and commercial module efficiencies are now reaching 𝟮𝟱%. However, the competition is no longer only about achieving higher module power. While Solyndra's innovative cylindrical PV technology ultimately failed commercially, new research from Japan suggests the concept could still have a future in building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). Researchers found that cylindrical solar modules offer improved cooling, lower temperature-related performance losses, and more stable energy generation under optimized urban installation conditions. Their curved geometry could make them particularly well suited for rooftops and building façades where conventional flat modules face thermal and angular limitations.
