👉 Indigenous Peoples Approach to Kin, Country & Knowledge - Australia ABSTRACT Typically, Western Science approaches the study of complex systems by examining the component parts outside of their contextual relationships. In contrast, Indigenous people continue to advocate the need for land and seascape approaches that include all aspects of life, particularly the special relationship between Kin (people), Country, and Knowledge. Globally, Indigenous people are lobbying for environmental research to take a rights-based approach that improves economic opportunities; confers greater authority over the stewardship of Country; delivers equity in managing Country; emboldens control to integrate knowledge systems; values and promotes culture; and recognizes Indigenous self-determination. In Australia, the National Indigenous Environment Research Network (NIERN) proposal offers a solution that supports the rights-based approach driven by Indigenous Australians through the establishment of a community of practice guided by Indigenous researchers and Indigenous Knowledge holders. We describe this Indigenous-led solution to the self-determination of Indigenous environmental research priorities by exploring the concept, the authorizing environment, and the mutual benefits that could be delivered by such a network. The empowerment of Indigenous people in research is possible if an all-of-system approach is taken. This approach must involve Indigenous people in all decision-making processes including the development of research priorities, the design of methodologies, the interpretation of findings, and finally the evaluation of outputs and outcomes.

🌱Supporting LIFE: Navarra’s commitment to Europe’s environmental future Last week in Luxembourg, the Government of Navarra strongly defended the continuity of the LIFE Programme, the EU’s only financial instrument fully dedicated to climate action and biodiversity. As highlighted by Minister José Mari Aierdi, LIFE is much more than funding — it is a key tool that translates European environmental ambitions into real, local impact, empowering regions, industries, and communities to act on climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development. During the webinar "Financing Nature-based Solutions, our CEO Antonia María Lorenzo López, presented the CARDIMED Resilience Alliance and shared BIOAZUL's experience through the Vertical Ecosystem case study at Hotel Mariposa in Málaga. This innovative blue-green solution combines greywater treatment with a hydroponic vertical garden, demonstrating how Nature-based Solutions can deliver measurable environmental, social and economic benefits in urban infrastructure. Through a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis, Antonia highlighted the solution's financial viability, with estimated payback periods between 1.68 and 3.06 years, while contributing to water savings, CO₂ reduction, urban biodiversity and improved thermal comfort. BIOAZUL was also proud to support the organisation of this webinar, co-organised by CARDIMED EU, NURISH EU Project and FutureLakes, with the participation of NATURANCE and MERLIN, bringing together experts to discuss innovative financing pathways for scaling up Nature-based Solutions across Europe. 🌿  𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐏𝐇𝟐𝐎 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐖𝐖𝐓𝐏 (𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐚) As the LIFE BIODAPH2O project approaches its final stage, this open day was a key opportunity to share the progress, results and impact of the #BIODAPH technology with stakeholders from the water sector. 🌱 The session, which was organised by Universitat de Girona and Catalan Water Partnership CWP, showcased how this innovative, eco-efficient and nature-based solution contributes to tertiary wastewater treatment and water regeneration, improving the chemical, microbiological and ecological quality of the treated effluent before its discharge into the Onyar River. The pilot initiative "Citizen Science for Environmental Monitoring" has successfully concluded! Throughout the project, participants used #EcoLab sensor technology to monitor key environmental indicators, collect and analyze data, and gain hands-on experience in citizen science. Along the way, they strengthened their #STEM, analytical, and research skills through practical environmental monitoring. This project aimed to: 🔹 Increase community engagement in the municipalities of #Poti and #Khobi; 🔹 Raise environmental awareness among young people and local communities; 🔹 Collect and analyze environmental data through hands-on scientific research. 🤝 The pilot activities were implemented by STEAMit · სთიმითი, in collaboration with Believe Foundation. 🌏🇩🇰 The initiative was supported by the Government of Denmark and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as part of the "Green Future, Rights and Stability" project.
