[BARRIO in Action: from market mapping to the Prefabrication Readiness Index (PRI)] We are pleased to share that our latest scientific paper has been published in Buildings (MDPI): 📄 Prefabricated Solutions for Energy-Saving Renovation: a technology supply mapping of southern european cases The paper presents a comprehensive overview of the current market for prefabricated renovation technologies in Southern Europe, introducing a performance-oriented taxonomy that classifies existing solutions according to their functional integration, market maturity, constructability and circularity. Our research highlights several important findings: 🏗️ Passive envelope solutions still dominate the market, while integrated, multifunctional renovation systems remain largely at the prototype stage. ♻️ Circularity is not yet fully embedded in most commercially available technologies, highlighting significant room for improvement. 🏢 Current solutions mainly target low- and mid-rise residential buildings, leaving complex and multi-storey renovation projects as a major challenge for the sector. 📊 The proposed taxonomy lays the groundwork for the development of a Prefabrication Readiness Index (PRI), a new framework to assess the maturity, scalability and market readiness of industrialised renovation solutions. This publication is the result of a fruitful collaboration among the partners of the #BARRIO project and contributes to the ongoing debate on how industrialised renovation can accelerate Europe's transition towards a zero-emission building stock.
