Through the JRC's Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships, universities and higher education institutions (HEIs) have the opportunity to establish long-term scientific collaborations based on jointly designed and supervised doctoral research projects. By bringing together expertise across institutions and disciplines, these partnerships strengthen links between science and policymaking while encouraging knowledge exchange and shared learning. The CDP framework also supports doctoral candidates in engaging with the science-policy interface and becoming part of an international research community.

🌍🔬Early-Career Researchers as Ambassadors of Science and Society - EURODOC Annual Conference and AGM 2026 hosted by Semmelweis University 🎓 Semmelweis University hosted the EURODOC Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026, bringing together more than 100 doctoral candidates, early-career researchers, academic leaders, and policy experts from over 20 countries across Europe. The four-day event, organized jointly by EURODOC, the Association of Hungarian PhD and DLA Candidates (DOSZ), and the International Relations and Alumni Affair of Semmelweis University, is held under the theme “Early Career Researchers as Ambassadors for Science and Society,” highlighting the essential role of young researchers in shaping the future of European science, higher education, and innovation. 💬The opening ceremony was marked by welcoming remarks from distinguished representatives of the academic and research community. The conference was opened by Professor Péter Hermann, Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs at Semmelweis University, Nicola Dengo, President of EURODOC, Dr. Péter Vámosi, President of DOSZ, Professor Gábor Takács, Co-Chair of the National Doctoral Council of Hungary and Professor Enikő Kubinyi, Deputy State Secretary at the Ministry of Science and Technology. 🤝Throughout the conference, participants emphasized that early-career researchers are not only contributors to science, but also key actors in shaping research systems, policy environments, and international cooperation. Discussions highlighted the need to better align responsibility with support, ensuring that young researchers have the institutional conditions required to fulfil their growing role in science and society. 🏛️As host of the 2026 event, Semmelweis University reaffirms its commitment to supporting scientific excellence, international engagement, and the professional development of early-career researchers. Bringing together participants from across Europe, the conference provides a platform for meaningful dialogue and cooperation while reinforcing Budapest’s and the Semmelweis University’s role as an important meeting point for the European research community. The PICKED Doctoral Candidates have launched their own peer-led Journal Club to regularly discuss scientific publications, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaboration across our international network. Alongside these meetings, several doctoral candidates are currently completing secondments at partner institutions, gaining hands-on experience and building new collaborations across Europe. These activities are an important part of the interdisciplinary and international training that lies at the heart of the PICKED project. GREAT NEWS🙏 Over the past few weeks, CER has received nearly one inquiry per day from international researchers interested in contributing to its research projects, as well as from graduates around the world seeking to pursue doctoral studies. Several factors make CER an attractive academic environment. Perhaps most importantly, many research projects are conducted in collaboration with international scholars, while a significant proportion of doctoral students come from diverse international backgrounds. Together, these factors help create a vibrant, globally connected research community and generate a positive ripple effect that extends beyond the centre itself. Another key strength is CER’s strong and consistent research output. Researchers at the centre regularly publish articles, books, and book chapters, and actively participate in international conferences. In addition, doctoral students are encouraged and supported to publish their work throughout their studies, providing valuable opportunities for academic development and scholarly impact. According to the 2026 AD Scientific Index Academic Performance Certificate, Professor Sergey Shityakov is ranked among the leading researchers at Universität Würzburg, placing 8th out of 45 researchers in Chemical Sciences and 65th out of 274 researchers in Natural Sciences. The assessment also highlights strong research momentum, with high H-index and citation momentum scores reflecting the sustained impact and continued influence of his recent scientific contributions. These rankings underscore his significant research performance and standing within one of Germany's leading research universities.

As the only UK-institution to receive funding in the first round of the highly competitive international Choose Europe for Science awards, Birmingham’s MOBILITY programme will focus on attracting and retaining talented life sciences researchers in the field of molecular biodiscovery. Set within an interdisciplinary research environment at the University of Birmingham, the programme brings together expertise in molecular biosciences, data science, engineering and translational research. MOBILITY offers a competitive package designed to support long-term career development, with the aim of attracting researchers to work in Europe. The package includes personalised training plans, mentoring and clear progression pathways and creates a more stable and attractive environment for early career researchers in the UK and across Europe.
