Microsoft will deploy AMD Helios at scale to power AI inference across Azure AI services and customer workloads. Built with AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs, EPYC “Venice” CPUs, Pensando networking, and ROCm software, Helios is designed for large-scale AI training and inference, with shipments beginning in H2 2026. The expanded AMD–Microsoft collaboration also includes new Azure VM series powered by EPYC “Venice,” broader deployment of Pensando DPUs, and deeper integration with Azure Boost to enhance cloud networking performance. AI infrastructure is moving beyond "more GPUs." Scott Guthrie shared how Microsoft is expanding Azure AI and HPC infrastructure with AMD, including Helios for production-scale inference, HDv2 VMs for AI data systems, and HXv2 VMs for chip design and technical computing. What stands out to me is the workload-specific strategy. Agentic AI needs more than accelerators. It needs CPUs for data prep, memory for complex workloads, fast networking, storage, and specialized infrastructure for the chips that power the next generation of AI.
