Electric HGV adoption is accelerating, but selecting the right vehicles, routes, depots and charging strategy remains critical. TransitionWise founder Leo Pickford looks at what the latest registration figures really mean for fleet operators.
Helping Logistics & Emergency Services Electrify Fleets | Reduce Cost, De-risk Infrastructure & Maintain 24/7 Operations | Founder, TransitionWise
Sitting behind the wheel, electric trucks no longer feel like a distant future. UK electric truck registrations grew by 171% last year, but they still accounted for just 1.4% of the overall HGV market. Those two figures tell an interesting story… The first shows that electric HGV adoption is beginning to accelerate. The second shows just how early we still are and the importance of going to the right expertise if you want to get it right. A successful first deployment depends on understanding: ⚡ which routes genuinely suit today’s vehicles ⚡ where payload and range requirements align ⚡ how long vehicles actually dwell at the depot ⚡ what charging capacity is really required ⚡ whether the site has enough available power ⚡ how drivers and operational teams will adapt The question is no longer whether an electric truck can complete a journey. It is whether the vehicle, route, depot, energy supply and operation will work together as one system. That is where evidence-led planning makes the difference between a successful first cohort and an expensive experiment. At TransitionWise we ensure you get this right and take the risk out of it. Get in touch now and we can discuss next steps. #ElectricTrucks #FleetElectrification #Logistics #eHGV #FleetStrategy #TransitionWise

“But where will all the electric trucks charge?” It’s one of the first, and entirely reasonable questions operators ask about HGV electrification. This photograph, taken at #Fleete's new charging hub at the Port of Tilbury, shows that the answer is beginning to take shape. The 5MW facility has 16 ultra-rapid charging bays, enabling up to 16 electric HGVs to charge simultaneously at one of the UK’s most important freight locations. It is also the first in Fleete’s planned network of shared commercial vehicle charging hubs. Does that mean the UK’s charging challenge has been completely solved? No. But it does demonstrate that high-capacity, truck-specific infrastructure is moving from plans and presentations into real-world operation. We are now seeing a developing mix of: • charging at operators’ own depots • shared hubs at ports and logistics clusters • destination charging at customer and distribution sites • high-power charging along strategic freight routes The question for operators is therefore shifting from “Will the infrastructure ever exist?” to “How should our fleet use the infrastructure that is emerging, and what do we need to develop ourselves?” Answering that properly requires an integrated view of vehicle duty cycles, dwell times, routes, depot capacity, energy costs and future replacement plans. #TransitionWise helps fleet operators turn that complexity into an evidence-led transition strategy, identifying where electrification works now, where infrastructure is needed and how to sequence investment intelligently. The infrastructure will not appear everywhere overnight. But it is being built, and now is the time to understand what that means for your fleet. #ElectricTrucks #HGV #FleetElectrification #Logistics #TransitionWise

⚡ Supporting electric trucks on Europe’s busiest routes. As fleet electrification grows, having reliable charging on the road, where you need it most, is becoming essential. Aral pulse operates a network of 34 live charging stations for electric trucks traveling through Germany, and additional sites planned for upcoming expansion. Built specifically for heavy-duty vehicles, these sites feature dedicated pull-through bays, truck-friendly layouts, and ultra-fast charging of up to 1,000 kW, so drivers can charge quickly and get back on the road. Positioned along key logistics routes, the network supports both national operations and wider European freight flows, bringing charging to convenient, essential locations. With 24/7 availability, high reliability, and on-site amenities drivers already know and trust, we’re focused on making charging as seamless as possible for fleets and their drivers. 👉 Discover how we can support your fleet: http://ms.spr.ly/6046vxjWk #Aral #AralFleetSolutions #Aralpulse #bpFleetSolutions #Fleet #FleetManagement #FleetSolutions #SupplyChain #Logistics

Electric vehicles are rapidly becoming part of everyday fleet operations, with new research from Radius showing that 91% of courier fleets have now introduced EVs. The findings also highlight that the transition is being managed pragmatically. While 40% of fleets are now fully electric, 51% operate mixed fleets, combining electric, petrol and diesel vehicles as businesses electrify at a pace that suits their operational requirements. The research found that 54% of courier businesses are motivated by reducing their environmental impact, while 50% cite improvements in driving range and charging accessibility. 46% point to vehicle costs as a key factor, and 45% say government incentives are helping support the transition. The results show that fleet electrification is no longer a future ambition, it is happening now. For many operators, the focus has shifted from whether to adopt EVs to how to manage mixed fleets as efficiently as possible while continuing the transition. As electric vans become more capable and charging infrastructure continues to expand, the commercial case for fleet electrification is becoming stronger than ever. As the number of electric buses on our roads continues to grow, one question deserves more attention... Are our safety systems evolving as quickly as the technology itself? ⚡🚌 The move to zero-emission transport is an exciting step forward, but it also brings new challenges. Fire suppression systems are becoming an increasingly important part of protecting passengers, drivers and valuable fleet assets. Sustainability is shaping the future of transport, but safety should always be leading the journey. How do you see fleet safety evolving alongside the transition to electric vehicles? #ElectricBuses #FleetSafety #FireSuppression #BusIndustry #PublicTransport #ZeroEmission #MotormaxGroup

A concise yet powerful analysis like this is essential in today’s complex landscape. By breaking down the implications of the Clean Corporate Vehicles Regulation, it gives decision‑makers a clear roadmap for scaling sustainable fleet solutions. In a world where policy, technology and market dynamics intersect, such insight helps us move from ambition to concrete, enable‑driven action. #FleetDecarbonisation #SustainableMobility #ArvalMobilityObservatory
Corporate fleets account for around 60% of new vehicle registrations in Europe. The European Commission's proposed Clean Corporate Vehicles Regulation has sparked an important debate on how to accelerate fleet decarbonisation across Europe. Corporate fleets are already playing a leading role in the transition and experience shows that electrification progresses faster when supported by stable, long-term and incentive-based policies rather than by binding targets and punitive measures. Our latest #ArvalMobilityObservatory article explores the potential impacts of the proposal and the factors that can help accelerate adoption at scale. A successful transition must be enabled, not imposed. https://lnkd.in/dGrGiN-u
