CityHealth Elevates Local Public Health Policies

Public Health Champions,    NACCHO launched its Public Health is Local initiative to encourage members to meet with legislators in-state and in-district during August recess. August recess is a great opportunity to educate legislators on the ways federal decisions can impact local public health services in the communities that they represent!   As part of this initiative, NACCHO developed a step-by-step guide (https://lnkd.in/eF4TjV4C) to scheduling educational meetings with your Members of Congress and a handout to leave behind after the meeting (https://lnkd.in/eTQ8S8Mq).    If you can't meet with your legislators next month, there are other ways to connect with them. Throughout August, you'll have the opportunity to take action on key decision points: -Funding for Fiscal Year 2027 - Encourage Congress to sustain responsible funding levels for federal health agencies. (https://lnkd.in/e_fWMRap) -Reauthorization of Public Health Workforce Loan Repayment Program - Urge Congress to support the public health workforce and ensure local health departments can hire and retain qualified staff. Today at NACCHO360, the National Commission on Local Public Health Leadership released its roadmap to empower local health departments and elected officials to shore up public health in their communities. "Good Health is Good Governance: A Toolkit for Strengthening Partnerships Between Elected Officials and Public Health Leaders" equips elected officials and local public health leaders with practical, nonpartisan ways to strengthen collaboration, enabling scientific evidence to be translated into effective policy and community action. The toolkit emphasizes a central message: Durable community health and security depend on trusting relationships, foundational public health science, and shared commitment to protect the public's health across sectors and political perspectives. https://bit.ly/4pr9G7c

To build healthier communities and better respond to public health needs, county officials and public health leaders must work together before crisis hits, panelists said Saturday at a public health summit during #NACoAC26. The National Commission on Local Public Health Leadership, which was formed last year to help identify gaps in relationships between policy, policymakers and public health, recently launched a “Good Health is Good Governance” toolkit to support building partnerships in the public health field. Athens County, Ohio, Commissioner Lenny Eliason and Loudoun County, Va., Chair Phyllis Randall are both members of the public health commission and helped inform the toolkit. Thank you to Partnership for Maternal & Child Health of Northern New Jersey for an outstanding collaboration with the New Jersey Public Health Association (NJPHA) on last night's networking event. The turnout was fantastic, the food was delicious, and, most importantly, the networking was exactly what we hoped it would be. It was especially exciting to welcome 10 new members to the NJPHA community! The evening was a testament to the power of collaboration. Public health cannot be done in isolation. It requires all of us, across organizations, sectors, and disciplines, coming together, building relationships, sharing ideas, and holding the line for public health. The more connected we are, the more collaborative we become, and the more aligned our efforts, the stronger our public health infrastructure will be to meet the challenges ahead and advance the work we are all so passionate about. The Murrumbidgee First Nations Toolkit for General Practice provides practical information and resources to support general practices to deliver more culturally safe, accessible and responsive care. The toolkit includes guidance on cultural safety, identifying First Nations patients, 715 Health Checks, local referral pathways, community connections, and ways practices can strengthen their approach to First Nations health. Making a difference in our rural communities 🤝 Ohio University was recently awarded $10 million to help expand the rural health workforce through the state's Rural Health Transformation Program. 🩺 As part of the program, OHIO will serve as a lead partner in Health Workforce Ohio, a statewide rural health workforce development strategy. The Voinovich School, along with other OHIO colleges, are slated to serve as partners and collaborators to help enact solutions. 📰 https://lnkd.in/ew3jhp86

We're delighted to see the launch of the new Public Health Compendium, which showcases the remarkable contributions Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) make to improving health and wellbeing across Scotland. This compendium features a case study on the See4School programme, which screens 60,000 pre-school children a year for vision defects.
