It was great to speak with over 60 stakeholders at the GLCCA Brownfield Housing Fund workshop last week. Thank you to everyone who joined the session and participated in the discussion! And Ofcourse, I am so proud to have worked alongside such a brilliant Team comprised of Jessie Shorrock and Ruth Carver. A few key reminders for anyone considering an application: •There is £34 million available through the fund to help unlock brownfield sites and deliver much-needed homes. •The fund is open to private landowners, local authorities, housing associations, community groups and anyone with eligible brownfield land. •The intervention rate is £30,000 per unit, but this isn't a strict cap. Projects will be considered on their individual merits. Please make the most of the questions and queries window. It's there to help applicants seek clarification and strengthen their submissions before applying. Wishing everyone preparing an application the very best of luck. Regeneration Capital Grant Fund (RCGF) 2026 - 2027 - open for applications RCGF is a Scottish Government managed fund delivered in partnership with COSLA that supports place-based regeneration projects. The fund is open to all local authorities in Scotland, who can submit bids on behalf of local community groups and third sector organisations. The purpose of this fund is to support community led capital regeneration and town centre revitalisation through locally developed place-based projects that deliver transformational change to improve the economic, social, and physical outcomes for disadvantaged communities across Scotland. I’ve invested more than £1.9 million from my Brownfield Housing Fund to support the delivery of 159 affordable homes across four developments in Newark, Arnold, Warsop and Chesterfield. Nottingham Community Housing Association will use the funding to build high-quality, energy-efficient homes, including affordable rent, social rent, shared ownership and supported accommodation. Together, these developments will only increase the supply of affordable housing while also regenerating long-derelict brownfield sites and strengthen local communities. The council looks set to launch a new grant fund of almost £895,000 to support communities near a major development site in Corby. A proposal to introduce a Development Impact Fund, utilising a Section 106 (S106) agreement linked to the Magna Park site, will be discussed by Councillors next week. If approved, the fund would allow investment in projects designed to mitigate the impact of the large-scale development. It is anticipated that that the fund will be open to a range of organisations including community groups and local town and parish councils, as well as council services such as country parks and woodlands, for projects like improvements to community facilities, public spaces and environmental initiatives: https://ow.ly/GVFT50ZkZ9M

How do we revitalize a neighborhood without pricing out the very people who call it home? Cleaning up contaminated sites increases land value, but that value often triggers the displacement of the very residents the project was meant to serve. This is a challenge I see often in brownfield redevelopment. That’s where Community Land Trusts (CLTs) come in. They lock in permanent affordability by separating the ownership of the land from the buildings on top of it. It’s a powerful way to ensure that development serves the community rather than replacing it. I’ve found three key strategies for developers to make this work: 1. Secure land early before prices spike. 2. Embed ground lease requirements to ensure long-term community benefit. 3. Leverage the nonprofit advantage by tapping into philanthropic capital. London mayor reveals £58m retrofit fund for social landlords. The fund looks at transforming 5,000 social homes with insulation, solar panels, and heat pumps to cut bills by up to £500 a year and tackle fuel poverty, as per Inside Housing's article written by Ellie Brown. Backed by the government’s Warm Homes Plan, this fund builds on Warmer Homes London, which has already improved 1,000 homes. Why it matters: • Fights fuel poverty — 10% of Londoners struggle to heat their homes. • Boosts resilience — 1 million homes at risk of overheating due to extreme heat. • Creates green jobs and delivers long-term savings. Furthermore, this funding can also be linked to HACT and PNZ Carbon's award winning #RetrofitCredits programme, which can help access additional funding to implement even more improvements that benefit households across London, delivering both environmental and social outcomes for residents and landlords. 📢 Knowsley Council has been allocated £1.5m to support capital programmes from the Pride in Place Impact Fund. ✅ A total of £1.325m of the fund has been allocated to six projects that support strong, resilient and inclusive communities and are also aligned to the Knowsley Council Plan 2025-2030. The remainder of the funding will be allocated later this year. 🗨️ Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, said: “The Pride in Place Impact Fund is designed to provide immediate support to ensure areas can deliver visible improvements to high streets and improve places and spaces of community value. We're delighted to announce that Changeworks has been awarded funding from SSEN Transmission's Regional Community Benefit Fund to deliver Warmer, Greener Park Home Communities. Delivered in partnership with the Scottish Confederation of Park Home Residents Associations (SCOPHRA), this two-year initiative will support park home residents across Scotland who are experiencing fuel poverty. The project will provide tailored energy advice, personalised retrofit plans and practical support to help residents improve the energy efficiency of their homes while reducing energy costs. It will also strengthen community capacity and generate insights to inform future policy and practice. Park home residents often face unique barriers to accessing energy efficiency support. Through this partnership, we're helping ensure these communities are not left behind in Scotland's journey to warmer, greener homes.
