This is an insightful summary of where digital health investing appears to be heading. One theme particularly resonated with me: technology alone is rarely the moat. Increasingly, durable healthcare companies are being built around deep domain expertise, evidence-based methodology, clinical integration, and measurable outcomes - with AI serving as the accelerator, not the core differentiator. That’s a direction I’ve believed in for years. Healthcare doesn’t simply need more information. It needs better behavior change methodology that can scale without sacrificing the human element. Half of digital health's 2026 funding went to a tiny handful of companies. Fierce Healthcare covers a new Rock Health report showing that venture funding for digital health is bouncing back, driven by an AI-fueled recovery after the sector's 2023 reset. Startups pulled in $7.4 billion across 244 deals in the first half of 2026 — a billion more than the same stretch a year earlier. But the money is pooling at the top: 19 companies landed 20 "megadeals" of $100 million or more, capturing 45% of every dollar invested. Whoop ($575M), Verily ($300M), OpenEvidence ($250M) and Talkiatry ($210M) topped the list, with mental health and obesity care drawing the most funding overall. Written by Rock Health researchers Ashwini Nagappan, PhD, MBE, Jason Lei and Maddie Knowles, the report makes the case that AI is changing what actually makes a company hard to copy. Once foundation models make software cheap to build, having the technology stops being an edge.
