June in Review: Big Wins, Bold Innovation and our People Powering Progress

June brought incredible progress across Westinghouse business units – from major AP1000® reactor milestones to innovation happening behind the scenes like 3D printing! This month’s newsletter highlights the technologies, teams and global expertise continuing to power what’s next in nuclear energy.

Accelerating American Nuclear Deployment

We’re starting off with historic news for nuclear deployment in the United States: Last month, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced a conditional commitment up to $17.5 billion in federal loans to support the purchase of key long-lead items (LLIs) for new nuclear power plants – a major step toward deploying a fleet of 10 AP1000 reactors in the U.S.

By advancing procurement of these complex components early, the initiative can help strengthen the nuclear supply chain, reduce project costs and accelerate construction and commercial operation by up to three years.

Westinghouse is proud to work with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Office of Energy Dominance Financing (EDF) to help move this effort forward and support deployment of AP1000 reactors. Strengthening Ukraine’s Energy Independence

Westinghouse’s partnership with Ukraine spans more than two decades, supporting the country’s energy security through fuel supply, safety solutions and future AP1000 deployment. That commitment was on display at the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026 in Gdańsk, Poland, where our team connected with customers, stakeholders and media through business meetings, executive engagement and a booth exhibit all focused on Ukraine’s energy future.

Together with Energoatom, we are helping build the foundation for long-term recovery by advancing local manufacturing, workforce development and supply chain growth. Through our “Buy Where We Build” philosophy, Ukrainian companies can become part of Westinghouse’s global supply chain and support future AP1000 projects across Europe and beyond. As Poland’s first nuclear power plant helps anchor regional nuclear capabilities, new partnership opportunities are taking shape across Poland, Ukraine and the broader European energy landscape.

AP1000 Momentum Builds from Warsaw to Washington, D.C.

Progress took center stage as we also participated in a Polish Trade Mission focused on strengthening U.S.-Poland cooperation on nuclear energy and new build projects. Alongside Polish Deputy Minister Wojciech Wrochna, PEJ President Marek Woszczyk and government and industry leaders, we discussed long-term collaboration, local supply chain development and the continued advancement of Poland’s AP1000 program.

Drawing on decades of experience delivering complex nuclear projects, we highlighted opportunities for Polish suppliers to support future AP1000 deployments worldwide. Together with Bechtel, we are advancing Poland’s first nuclear power project with three AP1000 units – backed by more than 140 years of combined experience. We were honored to welcome U.S. Reps. Chuck Fleischmann and Marcy Kaptur, who heard directly from our suppliers as excitement continues to build for Poland’s energy future.

Building Beyond The Mold with 3D Printing

June’s headlines also highlight innovation at the core of our work. In this month’s technology spotlight, we’re taking a closer look at additive manufacturing (AM) – better known as 3D printing – in action.

We’re bringing additive manufacturing into the reactor, building high-performance metal components layer by layer from fine powders. The result: greater safety, precision and performance, along with faster speed to market and part consolidation.

After years of testing and key milestones – including irradiation validation, the first safety-related AM component installed in a commercial reactor and our 1,000th AM component – we’ve helped move additive manufacturing from concept to real-world nuclear breakthrough.

The People at Our Core

Technology may drive innovation, but people are what bring it to life. As we continue celebrating Westinghouse’s 140-year legacy, we’re turning the spotlight to the long-standing employees and future talent whose dedication, creativity and expertise continue to shape our story.

In June, Westinghouse leaders gathered to celebrate the company-level and Lifetime Achievement George Westinghouse Signature Award winners. This year’s ceremony recognized 49 employees across five project teams whose work reflects innovation, collaboration and commitment to Westinghouse, our customers and the nuclear industry – including Lifetime Achievement Award winner Tim Meneely.

We’re also welcoming the next generation of talent as our 2026 Global Summer Internship Program kicks off in June! To celebrate, we’re introducing two global interns whose curiosity and dedication reflect the energy our many interns are bringing to Westinghouse this summer:

“I have been working as a Mechanical Engineer Apprentice at the Westinghouse France site in Marseille since December 2024, within the APX Business Unit in the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component & Manufacturing Engineering department," said Lise. 
"In February, I spent 10 weeks at the Westinghouse Italy workshop in Monfalcone, working in the testing laboratory. This experience gave me the opportunity to see the project I am working on, involving the construction of 12 steam generators, in a concrete and practical way."
