My career has looked like a lot of different things over the years, and I used to think that was a bad thing (especially as a child of immigrants)! How is someone with a biology major working in sales and now a media company founder? So I asked students at the University of North Texas what they’re thinking about when it comes to growing in their careers. And almost every conversation came back to the same thing: no one really knows what their “path” is supposed to look like anymore. But all the experiences you do have don’t go to waste; they build on each other. So your career isn’t really a ladder, it’s more like a climbing wall. Which makes a lot more sense, especially right now when so many of us are pivoting and figuring things out as we go (and with AI changing everything too). That’s why Open To Work by Ryan Roslansky and Aneesh Raman stood out to me; it actually reflects what careers look like today, not what they used to be.
