The Penn Museum websites support our mission and strategic goals. Access to and use of these websites and contents are subject to the following terms and conditions.

Penn Museum websites (penn.museum, subdomains, and subsidiary websites) do not collect personally identifying information. The Museum records information when provided by a user to subscribe to emails, register for programs, and similar interactions. We may record IP address and technology used such as type of device and browser, behavior such as pages accessed or files downloaded, and the date and time of the online visit. We do not track or record personal information related to that online visit behavior. We use online visit information only to understand how online visitors use our sites and make improvements to our digital resources.

Website content

Penn Museum content, including but not limited to text, images, and data, on our websites is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws covering intellectual property. Exceptions exist for collections images and data in https://www.penn.museum/collections/ (see below). Copyright and other proprietary rights may be held by individuals or entities other than the Museum.

Use of collections images

Collection object images and archival document scans available for download on our websites can be used for non-profit, education, or personal uses under the following terms without further permissions (unless otherwise noted, see individual finding aids for details on archival documents):

Assets may be used only for research or educational purposes (including public presentations and research publications) or personal use.
Any modifications, distortions, additions to Penn Museum content must be identified as such.
Media must include the credit line: "Object [insert object number(s)]. Courtesy of the Penn Museum."
For digital uses, please include a link to https://www.penn.museum.
This excludes the use of high-resolution or publication-quality files, which are available on request.
Commercial use is prohibited.

Use of collections data

Penn Museum collections data available for download on our websites is provided 'as-is' — data might be incomplete or incorrect. These records describe cultural and historical items that may be culturally sensitive and might include language that is outdated or offensive.

The Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 Unported (CC BY 4.0) license applies to downloaded collections datasets. Images are not included.

We update records regularly and encourage and welcome members of descendant communities, scholars, and others to contact us with feedback, questions, or concerns.
