SFIA Advocacy

  • Policy: SFIA has helped roll back building-code gains made by the wood industry through focused outreach at the state and local levels. Our executive team works directly with policymakers to ensure steel framing gets fair consideration.
  • Representation: Our Technical Director represents SFIA members on key standards bodies, including the IBC, ASTM, ASHRAE and others.
  • Standards Development: SFIA is an official Standards Development Organization (SDO). We maintain 6 code-referenced framing standards and 12 test standards previously developed by AISI.
  • Sustainability: Manufacturer members can participate in SFIA’s industry-wide Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). We offer tools and data to demonstrate how steel framing supports carbon reduction, recycling, and circular construction practices.
