moreThis study critically examines Bollywood’s portrayal of Muslims, tracing its evolution from pluralistic depictions in pre-1990s cinema to the pervasive Islamophobic narratives post-2014, driven by Hindu nationalist agendas. Analyzing key themes—such as the “Muslim as terrorist” trope, historical revisionism, and gendered stereotypes—it highlights how these portrayals, amplified by political influences like the BJP’s saffronization, perpetuate prejudice and incite real-world violence against Muslim minorities. Through a logical and unbiased lens, the paper argues that such misrepresentations are unethical and intellectually lazy, proposing authentic representation, critical media literacy, and industry accountability as remedies to restore Bollywood’s secular legacy and counter divisive propaganda.
