We received so many biographies of women neurosurgery leaders for this issue that only a selection could be condensed here. In all of them, the essence of a leader shines through. Many are included as “first” of their country or color or other achievement. All of them are included as outstanding—in clinical, academic, and organized neurosurgery. Two defining features are tenacity and service. When faced with shocking discrimination, or numbing indifference, they ignored it or fought valiantly. When choosing their life’s work, they chose service, often of the most neglected—those with pain, trauma, and disability. These women inspire and point the way to a time when the term “women leaders” as an exception is unnecessary.—Katharine J. Drummond, MD, on behalf of this month’s topic editors

Cet article présente les principaux enjeux abordés lors du congrès annuel de la Société canadienne d’éducation par l’art (SCÉA), tenu à Halifax en 2024 sous le thème de la positionnalité. Les conférences et ateliers ont invité les participant·e·s à réfléchir à l’influence de leurs identités, valeurs et expériences sur leurs pratiques artistiques, éducatives et de recherche.
Plusieurs présentations ont porté sur des questions d’identité, d’inclusion, de diversité et d’appartenance, ainsi que sur le potentiel des technologies numériques en éducation artistique. Des recherches ont également exploré les pratiques créatives des jeunes dans les environnements numériques et les approches pédagogiques favorisant la prise en compte de la différence.
L’un des fils conducteurs du congrès concernait le rôle transformateur de l’art. Les interventions ont montré comment les pratiques artistiques peuvent contribuer à la reconnaissance des groupes marginalisés, au développement d’une conscience sociale et à l’engagement citoyen.

The technological growth in the last years have conducted to the development of virtual reality (VR) systems able immerse the user into a three-dimensional (3D) virtual environment o virtual world, where the user can interact in real time with virtual objects. This interaction is mainly based on visualizing the virtual environment and objects. However, with the recent beginning of haptic systems the interaction with the virtual world has been extended to also feel, touch and manipulate virtual objects. A irrupción da intelixencia artificial (IA) no ámbito educativo en xeral e no ensino de linguas, en particular, está a provocar transformacións abondas na maneira en que se aprende este tipo de disciplinas e saberes. As humanidades e as linguas, tradicionalmente asociadas ao pensamento crítico e á interpretación subxectiva, enfróntanse a novos desafíos, oportunidades e impactos no estudantado e no profesorado. Linguas minorizadas como a nosa non poden desencarrilar desta vía e permaneceren alleas ás prácticas que outras xa están adoptando.
Partindo deste presuposto, a nosa contribución expón, con base na experiencia docente en materias de grao e máster, propostas para aulas colaborativas e cooperativas de lingua (segundo os contidos abordados, na primeira o docente é máis proactivo, dirixe o coñecemento e o traballo e na segunda o docente é sobre todo guía namentres que o estudantado toma decisións procurando máis o coñecemento de seu), botando man de ferramentas IA e Flipped Classroom e examinándomos de paso os desafíos e problemas que xera a súa posta en práctica na nosa área de traballo.

Las herramientas tecnológicas, así como el uso de internet, parecen estar cobrando cada vez una mayor relevancia en las aulas. No obstante, el uso que se hace de ellas no siempre responde a las necesidades reales que plantean los estudiantes en su proceso de aprendizaje y adquisición de competencias. Este artículo ofrece una nueva perspectiva para dar respuesta a las necesidades educativas de los alumnos a través del uso de las tecnologías de la información y de la comunicación. Concretamente, la reciente metodología conocida como flipped classroom o aula inversa podría ayudar a favorecer dicho proceso mediante el planteamiento de sesiones didácticas muy distintas a las que conocemos actualmente. Quizá estemos ante el aula del futuro…

The inclusion of students with disabilities is a complex reality that involves not only theoretical but also practical issues. The field of ethics, pedagogy and sociology, among other sciences, update their great questions: Can everybody be educated in everything? What is the purpose of school? Should we talk about disability, special educational needs or neurodiversity? The reality of school management also raises questions: What does the right to inclusive education consist in? Is it mandatory for all schools? How is education organized in Argentina and in the Province of Buenos Aires? This book addresses these questions and goes beyond them: it offers an updated diagnosis of school reality in Argentina´s largest educational district. It examines the perception of the levels of school inclusion according to different dimensions (cultures, practices and policies), detects the main points and sources of resistance, obstacles and tensions at the time of the implementation of inclusion, and proposes, based on them, specific ideas for the design of public policies.

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the migration phenomenon from historical, civilizational, and policy perspectives, focusing on Germany. Using the comparative historical analysis method, the cases of the Ottoman Empire, the United States, and Germany are examined. The main argument is as follows: migration is not only a survival mechanism for societies but also the fundamental dynamic of knowledge and capital accumulation. The study discusses how colonial powers systematized this dynamic and how today's demographic crisis should be evaluated within this historical context; concrete integration policy recommendations are developed for Germany.

Resumen La educación intercultural constituye un eje central para afrontar los retos actuales en las sociedades contemporáneas. En diálogo con otras perspectivas educativas transversales, este texto analiza la comunicación escuela-familia como espacio estratégico para la construcción de reconocimiento, participación y equidad educativa. A partir de metodología cualitativa de enfoque etnográfico realizada en siete centros escolares de Cataluña con una presencia significativa de familias de origen inmigrante; se exploraron los distintos canales de comunicación escuela-familia, su uso en la práctica cotidiana y las implicaciones que tienen para la participación de las familias de origen inmigrante en educación primaria. Los resultados evidencian una coexistencia jerarquizada de canales comunicativos que genera barreras lingüísticas, culturales, organizativas y tecnológicas, aunque también se identifican prácticas de mediación intercultural, acompañamiento digital y construcción de relaciones de confianza. Se concluye que repensar la comunicación escuela-familia desde una perspectiva intercultural resulta clave para avanzar hacia comunidades educativas más inclusivas y socialmente justas. Higher education promises to develop critical thinkers, ethical leaders, and adaptable professionals. The evidence suggests it frequently does the opposite. This paper argues that universities are unintentionally cultivating habits of mind and institutional practices that set graduates up for failure, not despite their degrees, but partly because of them. Drawing on research across management, psychology, organizational behavior, and education, we examine how institutions neglect the competencies society most urgently needs: intellectual humility, active listening, ethical reasoning, constructive disagreement, adaptability, and strength of character. These deficits are compounded by grade inflation, academic dishonesty, and ideological conformity, including narrow institutional conceptions of diversity that fixate on race and gender while ignoring equally consequential forms of bias based on class, disability, political affiliation, geographic origin, and educational status. Crucially, this perspective views higher education as fully redeemable. Because these essential competencies represent learnable skills instead of fixed traits, universities remain the ideal vehicles for their cultivation, provided they find the institutional will to change. The gap between what colleges claim to produce and what employers and society actually receive can be prevented. It is a choice, and it can be reversed.

Toma como ejemplo para la reflexión dos experiencias que el autor conoció de primera mano. El modelo ha sido utilizado en diversos grados en diversas experiencias.

This article examines how kindness can be understood, expressed and enacted through intercultural citizenship education in higher education, with particular attention to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Situated within a theoretical framework that brings together intercultural citizenship and EDI, the study argues that these fields are mutually reinforcing and that their integration is enriched by foregrounding kindness. Empirically, the article reports on a qualitative multiple case study conducted in 2023, involving university students from Argentina and the United Kingdom who collaboratively designed English language teaching materials focused on kindness. Data consisted of student-generated textual and artistic artefacts, including lesson plans, teachers' notes, drawings, comics and other teaching materials, which were analysed using a multimodal approach. Across cases, kindness functioned as a relational disposition, ethical compass, emotional anchor and intentional action, serving as a pedagogical response to issues of gender inequality, mental health and disability inclusion. The study argues that a structured grammar of intercultural kindness offers a vocabulary that makes visible the relational, ethical, emotional and action-oriented dimensions through which kindness shapes the pedagogical enactment of intercultural citizenship and EDI. This approach demonstrates that kindness can be taught; however, its transformative potential depends on a deliberate political orientation.

pues en la actualidad el profesor sigue siendo el principal protagonista del análisis que se realiza en clase. El objetivo de este estudio fue diseñar una estrategia didáctica que incorpore la figura del alumno como un sujeto partícipe de la interpretación. Dicha estrategia fue aplicada en dos grupos del Curso Integrado de Humanidades durante las clases de Comunicación y Lenguaje. Los resultados sugieren que esta estrategia es útil para lograr que el alumno sea consciente del sistema ideológico imperante.

D’ordinaire, les programmes d'études définissent les contenus et compétences à acquérir sur une période étendue (semestre ou année), tandis que les fiches de préparation les décomposent en objectifs spécifiques et activités concrètes adaptées au contexte de la classe. Ce modèle révèle ses limites en générant des inégalités d'apprentissage, la conversion des programmes en leçons reposant essentiellement sur les compétences individuelles de chaque enseignant. Afin de minimiser l'impact des disparités enseignantes sur la transmission des savoirs et les performances des élèves, l'ingénierie didactique propose un modèle pédagogique inclusif basé sur des dispositifs d'enseignement standardisés, reproductibles et applicables à grande échelle, comme l'illustre cette recherche-action.

Abstract
Usually, curricula outline the contents and competencies students must acquire over extended periods like a semester or a full academic year. Lesson plans then break these down into specific, classroom-adapted objectives and activities. Yet this approach fosters learning disparities, as lesson quality depends on teachers' personal ability to convert broad curricula into clear, measurable goals and fitting tasks. Teachers with unequal training often produce variable outcomes, leading to inequities in student achievement. Instructional design (or didactic engineering) addresses this by engaging subject experts to develop standardized, reproducible teaching devices, minimizing reliance on individual teacher talent, and fostering uniform knowledge transmission and student outcomes, as demonstrated in this action research.

El artículo plantea el aprendizaje dialógico como una propuesta de enseñanzaaprendizaje novedosa y de interés en la actualidad. Centrándose en su potencialidad en la educación, se plantea cómo en un centro de Educación Infantil y Primaria se ha apostado por la innovación para dar un giro en la enseñanza hacia el aprendizaje dialógico. Actualmente se están implementando dos prácticas formativas propias que se apoyan en el aprendizaje dialógico: grupos interactivos y tertulias literarias. El artículo explica ampliamente cómo se vienen desarrollando desde el pasado curso, así como el proceso de investigación llevado a cabo en paralelo a la innovación: una investigación-acción colaborativa en la que participan profesores del centro y profesores universitarios que asesoran en el proceso de implantación. Se concluye que tras implementar grupos interactivos en seis aulas del centro a lo largo de este curso las formas convencionales de enseñar han mudado progresivamente de forma notable. Al final de la comunicación se plantean las posibilidades de este enfoque dialógico de enseñanza-aprendizaje en la educación especial, su aportación al cambio en el centro y las repercusiones que ha tenido en las formas de trabajo de todos los implicados.

Esta obra surge de un esfuerzo investigativo conjunto desarrollado por académicos ecuatorianos, con el apoyo directo de la Fundación Internacional para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FIECYT) en los procesos editoriales. Representa un aporte relevante al desarrollo del conocimiento en torno a la educación.

Dynamiczny rozwój korzystania z GenAI w obszarze edukacyjnym otwiera nie tylko pytania etyczne dotyczące prywatności danych, uprzedzeń obecnych w modelach czy uznawania ich odpowiedzi za trafne bez wystarczającej weryfikacji. Jej obecność przynosi także wyzwania metodyczne, dotyczące m.in. tego, jak wykorzystywać te
narzędzia w sposób pedagogicznie uzasadniony – tak, aby wspierały uczenie się. Sztuczna inteligencja (ang. artificial intelligence, AI) nie jest w edukacji, także specjalnej, zjawiskiem całkowicie nowym. Jednak generatywny i dialogiczny charakter współczesnych narzędzi AI wyraźnie zwiększa skalę ich potencjalnych zastosowań,
w tym takich, które mogą stanowić zagrożenie. Należy także wspomnieć o zjawisku nierówności cyfrowych, na które zwraca się uwagę
w kontekście niektórych grup, w tym młodych ludzi ze SPE (Plichta, 2017, 2024). Nie dotyczą one wyłącznie gorszego dostępu do technologii cyfrowych czy internetu. Obejmują również kompetencje potrzebne do ich sensownego używania oraz rodzaj osiąganych dzięki nim korzyści. Mówiąc w pewnym uproszczeniu, oznacza to, że te same narzędzia, w tym GenAI, mogą jednych uczniów realnie wspierać, a innych stawiać
w gorszej sytuacji edukacyjnej. Nierówności te często współwystępują z innymi czynnikami, takimi jak sytuacja rodzinna, edukacyjna, zdrowotna czy materialna ucznia (van Deursen, van Dijk, 2018; Plichta, 2024).

Una de las principales debilidades de los programas de acogida a estudiantes inmigrantes en escuelas chilenas, radica en la ausencia de lineamientos educativos que oriente el trabajo de gestionar y organizar su incorporación. En este estudio se presentan los resultados de un análisis documental en torno a la escolarización de estudiantes inmigrantes. Mediante un análisis de contenido semántico a 82 fuentes documentales, se construyeron categorías explicativas permitiendo identificar ciertos patrones, tensiones e hilos conductores. Los resultados analizan los principales ámbitos de acción (ingreso y matriculación), la naturaleza de los documentos (informativa e instructiva) así como los enfoques predominantes en torno a la diversidad cultural (enfoque de derechos y multiculturalidad), evidenciando de esta manera el estado actual así como los desafíos existentes para el desarrollo de estrategias de acogida que promuevan una mayor equidad y justicia educativa. Las discusiones giran en torno a la necesidad de expandir el trabajo hacia otros ámbitos, de promover nuevos enfoques hacia la diversidad cultural, a través de documentos que puedan asesorar y orientar el trabajo realizado por las propias comunidades educativas.

Este trabajo parte del análisis de textos poéticos de Rosa Maqueda e Irma Pineda escritos en lenguas originarias de América Latina con base oral, como el hñähñu y el zapoteco, para reflexionar sobre su incorporación en el canon escolar, teniendo en cuenta su potencial educativo en contextos plurilingües y multiculturales como es el caso de México. Se llevó a cabo un análisis cualitativo de los poemas seleccionados. Se trabajó con el profesorado en formación en tareas de traducción e ilustración mediante herramientas de inteligencia artificial generativa (IAG), en este caso, a través de ChatGPT. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que, aunque la IA puede facilitar la traducción y la generación de imágenes, se observan limitaciones significativas en el tratamiento de lenguas nativas orales, lo que evidencia el sesgo de la IA y las dificultades en la adaptación de la literatura o de textos literarios a contextos educativos de la Educación Infantil y Primaria. Finalmente, nuestro trabajo concluye que muchas de las limitaciones del estudio derivan de la escasa presencia de estudios sobre lenguas originarias en el ámbito de la educación literaria y de una inteligencia artificial todavía en desarrollo, que no posee una información extensa en este campo. Esto nos invita a continuar investigando para mejorar la competencia intercultural y lectoliteraria del futuro profesorado apoyándonos en nuevos estudios desde una perspectiva ética y crítica en el uso de la IAG dentro de las aulas.

A la luz de las recientes reformas curriculares en la educación superior mexicana—específicamente en el Plan de Estudios 2022 y el marco de la Nueva Escuela Mexicana (NEM)—el portafolio de evidencias se ha consolidado como una modalidad de titulación fundamental. Más allá de ser una mera recopilación de trabajos académicos, este instrumento funciona como un espacio dinámico de reflexión crítica, autoevaluación y construcción de la identidad pedagógica para los docentes en formación de las Escuelas Normales.

Students' sense of belonging has been widely recognized as a critical factor influencing academic engagement, psychological well-being, and participation in school environments. However, existing research often examines classroom relationships, culturally responsive pedagogy, and participation structures separately, providing limited insight into how everyday classroom practices interact to support belonging. Guided by Self-Determination Theory and the literature on school belonging and psychological safety, this qualitative study explores how teachers construct classroom environments that may support belonging through daily pedagogical practices in K-12 settings. Data were collected through ten classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with ten educators working across preschool, primary, and middle school contexts. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis with iterative coding and thematic development. The findings revealed five interconnected dimensions of belonging-oriented classroom practices: inclusive and studentcentered learning environments, community building and belonging, cultural representation and responsiveness, student voice, participation, and agency, and collaborative learning and social connectedness. These practices appear to support students' experiences of autonomy, competence, and relatedness while fostering psychological safety and meaningful

Todos los capítulos publicados en Inclusión: Reto educativo y social, hicieron parte de una convocatoria a investigadores de diferentes países que conocieran y trabajaran ampliamente el tema a tratar y fueron seleccionados para su publicación tras evaluación de pares externos. Gracias a la diversidad de autores el texto contiene diversas posturas sobre la inclusión, además no cuenta con una narrativa continua. La Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios -UNIMINUTO, Centro Regional Neiva, se reservó el derecho de publicar capítulos que fueron presentados, y no superaron los criterios de evaluación establecidos, entre otras razones porque: (a) carecen de procesos investigativos claros y coherentes con el propósito del libro, (b) bajo nivel de referencias bibliográficas o uso de referencias desactualizadas o que no cuentan con amplio reconocimiento en la comunidad académica, (c) artículos resúmenes de trabajos que ya están impresos o se encuentran en proceso de impresión.

This study explores the relationship between dance and the disabled body through the lens of creation and spectatorship, aiming for an inclusive approach. The research is based on the observation of Latin dance classes at a Care Center for individuals with disabilities, focusing on two teenage boys with disabilities and their mothers. Using self-observation, field notes, and semistructured interviews, the study investigates how educational practices may reproduce stereotypes or foster inclusion. Drawing on phenomenological theories by Husserl and Merleau-Ponty, it highlights the dual perception of the body as lived (Leib) or objectified (Körper). The findings question the inclusive value of traditional dance norms and suggest that somatic practicesfocusing on embodied experience rather than skill perfection-offer a more inclusive framework. This approach has the potential to reshape both educational contexts and the performative reception of the disabled body.

Y la Escuela Normal, como en aquella canción infantil, dijo "con esta sí, con este no…". La educación moderna tuvo un claro desiderátum: formar al ciudadano o, para decirlo con una expresión que enraiza en nuestro corazones, la escuela se ocupó de educar al soberano. Surge así, de esa premisa, la insoslayable responsabilidad del Estado en la gestión educativa: el diseño, el gobierno, el sostenimiento económico, logístico y operacional de la educación, la definición de su organización, la legitimación de sus fines, metas y contenidos, la formación, selección, evaluación y promoción de sus agentes, la acreditación de sus procesos y sus logros, la administración de los recursos por nombrar, apenas, los más destacados aspectos que asumió el "Estado educador". Y lo hizo. Y lo hizo con mayor o menor eficacia y apego al deber ser, según las épocas, los personajes y las circunstancias… Pero… ¡Ay, las circunstancias…! Es en este punto en el que la inflexión de esta trama discursiva interseca con el espíritu de época. La modernidad engendró, parió, prohijó y hasta -podríamos decir-apapachó a la escuela como su hija más dilecta. La educación universal y, particularmente, la escuela pública, laica, no onerosa ( 1 ) se transformó en el non plus ultra de la modernidad. Ha de tenerse en cuenta que el decurso de las ideas y concepciones del mundo y, consecuentemente, de lo humano nutren el espíritu de época y trazan el tejido de la cultura en el marco del cual se inscriben las instituciones, operan las organizaciones y se constituyen las subjetividades singulares, grupales y colectivas. Claro es que las transformaciones no son unívocas ni simultáneas; pero sí es posible identificar desfases temporales e incidencias entre -por ejemplo-las reflexiones nietzscheanas y la escuela nueva o entre los postulados freudianos y la hoy emergente "educación emocional". Realizando una operación de deconstrucción, es asequible el descubrimiento de los rizomas -a veces subterráneos e invisibilizados-entre proposiciones filosóficas que inspiran épocas y las expresiones objetivadas e institucionalizadas de ellas. Aquella escuela cumplió su labor; en Occidente, en América, en América Latina y, particularmente, en Argentina, la escuela alfabetizó a millones de personas transformándolas en ciudadanos activos, hábiles, creativos e, incluso, doctos. ¿Qué sería de nosotros sin un Sarmiento, sin un Avellaneda, sin un Amadeo Jacques, sin un José Manuel Estrada, sin una Juana Elena Blanco, sin una Mary Graham, sin un Jorge Stearns, sin una Juana Manso, sin un Ovide Menin, sin un Fernando Prieto, sin una Silvana Sandri, sin un Raúl Ageno… Somos hijos de la modernidad, de la escuela y de sus maestros. Chapó ante esa historia; nuestra gratitud y nuestro homenaje perpetuo a sus protagonistas aun con las divergencias que -eventualmente-puedan plantearse. Esos sentimientos y esas convicciones no nos impiden reconocer la decadencia del modelo moderno del Estado educador, la declinación de 1 Utilizo la expresión "no onerosa" para evitar el término "gratuita" que tanto irrita la sensibilidad neoliberal que argumenta diciendo que "nada es gratuito". Claro es que no les irrita cuando los mismos personajes incluyen la leyenda "entrada libre y gratuita" en alguna actividad que ellos organizan en un ámbito gubernamental que circunstancialmente ocupan… Obviamente, "neoliberal" es un calificativo generoso y grandilocuente para una argumentación que es, en rigor, vanamente mercantil, que imagina que todo tiene precio porque todo se compra y todo se vende, hasta el alma y los suspiros. Decíamos que efectivamente, a la educación "gratuita" alguien la paga y, en una democracia la paga el pueblo… y, mal que les pese, lo hace a través del Estado. Sí, usted la paga, yo la pago, aunque él no la puede pagar…. Y a la educación universal la paga el pueblo porque es, precisamente, universal: es educación del pueblo, por el pueblo y para el pueblo.

I propose spatial affordances as a tool for assessing pedagogical writing spaces such as writing centers. I outline a heuristic I used to evaluate the opportunities and limitations of two spaces and emphasize its adaptability to other learning spaces. Spatial affordances are useful because they underscore how place/space/location structures and facilitates writing practice.

This article offers a commentary on Carolyn Liebler and Miri Song's Mixed Heritage in the Family: Racial Identity, Spousal Choice, and Child-Rearing, engaging with its central arguments and situating them within broader theoretical debates on race, identity, and social reproduction. I contend that the demographic expansion of mixed-heritage populations and the growing diversification of contemporary societies cannot be conflated with the emergence of a post-racial condition. Rather than signalling the transcendence of racial hierarchies, these trends serve as a pressing reminder of the need to critically reassess prevailing assumptions of mainstreaming and deracialization — concepts that risk obscuring the enduring salience of racial structures in everyday life and institutional practice. Furthermore, I advocate for a comparative analytical framework that actively moves beyond the U.S.-centric racial paradigm that has long dominated scholarship in this field. Such a framework must engage with diverse ethnoracial schemas across different national and historical contexts, while simultaneously foregrounding the complex, mutually constitutive interplay between race and ethnicity as analytically distinct yet deeply intertwined categories of social organization.

While its polemical style may polarise readers, the book’s insistence on re‑examining foundational assumptions makes it a valuable—if controversial—intervention in Caribbean religious studies.

This study assessed the impact of intercultural human resource management practices (Recruitment and Selection practices, Employee empowerment practice, and Compensation practice) on employees' satisfaction in food and beverages MNCs in Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The target population comprises 6,356 staff of quoted food and beverages MNCs in Nigeria. Taro Yamane statistical formulae was used to determine the sample size of 1,568. Purposive sampling technique was used to determine the respondents which included Nigerians and Other Nationals working in the quoted food and beverages MNCs. A structured survey questionnaire was adapted, validated, and used for the construct ranged between 0.61 and 0.93. The response rate to the 1,568 copies of the questionnaire administered was 74%. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential (Student T-test of multiple regression analysis) statistics. Hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using SPSS 20. Findings revealed that, Recruitment and Selection practices, Employee empowerment practice, and Compensation practice had significant positive influence on employees' satisfaction among Nigerians and Other Nationals in food and beverages MNCs in Nigeria (β = -.025 -.

This study examines the perceptions of Bulgarian audiences toward AI influencers, specifically those created for the social experiment "The Dundarevs’ Family" on TikTok. Findings from an online survey of 131 respondents indicate that simulacra elicit positive emotions such as laughter, sympathy, and a sense of closeness. Nevertheless, respondents express caution regarding the authenticity and social legitimacy of these virtual entities. Age emerges as a significant factor: younger users are more adept at recognizing synthetic content and tend to be more critical, whereas older users exhibit greater hesitancy. The exposure effect is also evident, as regular interaction with AI content increases both tolerance and willingness to follow virtual influencers. Despite these trends, skepticism remains prevalent, resulting in a gap between conceptual acceptance and actual willingness to engage with synthetic images. The status of AI influencers within Bulgarian digital culture is currently fluid; while simulacra effectively engage and entertain, they have yet to achieve social legitimacy.

This Special Issue of The Australasian Journal of Popular Culture (AJPC) focuses on the intersections between disability and popular culture. The editorial begins with a reflection on how far research has progressed in the last decade, since the first publication of Disability and Popular Culture by Katie Ellis (Ashgate 2015). A wide range of topics and media forms are addressed in this issue, illustrating the scope and depth of current research. The nine articles and three reviews here present an astute and engaging snapshot of the field, illustrating how contemporary popular culture is operating as a key site of disability politics. Moving from studying representations to analysing the media ecosystems in which disabled people function as creators, audiences, advocates and meaning-makers, this Special Issue foregrounds disability perspectives and authorship throughout. Topics include disability and horror, disability representation in Star Trek, podcasting, memes and online culture.

The rapid expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming higher education, generating opportunities for personalized learning, but also ethical and equity challenges, especially in Latin America. This study analyzes the multidimensional attitudes (cognitive, affective/emotional, behavioral, and ethical) of Latin American university students toward AI, considering personal and academic variables. A quantitative, descriptive, and non-experimental design was used, applied to a sample of 570 students from master's programs in Educational Technology in Ecuador, Spain, and the Dominican Republic. Data was collected using a questionnaire adapted from the SATAI (Student Attitude Toward Artificial Intelligence) instrument, expanded with an ethical component. Reliability was excellent (total α = 0.96). Data was analyzed using non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis) and Spearman correlations. Overall attitudes were positive, with the cognitive and behavioral components being the most prominent, while the ethical component showed lower scores. No significant differences were found by gender, but differences were found by country, field of study, and teaching experience. Students with higher self-assessment of their technical and pedagogical knowledge of AI showed more favorable attitudes. Significant correlations were confirmed between the dimensions, especially between the affective dimensions and the intention to use AI. Latin American students show a willingness to incorporate AI, although they require specific ethical and technical training. It is recommended that universities integrate digital ethics literacy programs and clear institutional guidelines that promote the responsible and critical use of AI in higher education.

The caste system in India has often been sanitized as
an ancient and benign structure of occupational
organization. In practice, however, it has functioned
as an insidious system of social domination,
producing entrenched political, economic, and spatial
inequalities. Its most violent expression has been the
exclusion of Dalits—historically positioned outside
the caste system and forced into stigmatized labor
such as scavenging and disposing of dead cattle—
through the regime of untouchability, a reality long
documented in Indian literature.

Hands in wicker and sheets of paper, a choir on a theatre stage, a house open to its neighbourhood: participatory arts are above all a place where people meet. A place where cultures are celebrated with joy and hospitality. Intimate, deep, empathetic, subversive, it transforms individual narratives and collective representations. This research asks: how, and to what extent, do participatory arts foster mutual understanding? What actually happens within a process of shared creation?

Conducted in Seine-Saint-Denis, a suburban area of Paris, France, this research explores an interculturally rich and rapidly changing territory that is often reduced to persistent stereotypes. In that context, how do participatory arts enable people to tell their stories differently, transform perspectives, and inhabit a territory? How do they contribute to the construction of collective identities and memories?

We compared and engaged in back-and-forth exchanges with other European contexts, revealing as many differences as resonances. What are the trends, at both the Seine-Saint-Denis and European scales? What role does cultural participation play in our democracies? What are its limits and tensions—from the risk of instrumentalisation to potential exhaustion? We met some actors and practitioners of the studied territories. There, we observed, analysed, philosophised, theorised, and dreamed.

The research took place from April to November 2025, with the support of the Délégation à la Biennale Interculturelle et au Campus Francophone of the Conseil Départemental de Seine-Saint-Denis. It represents the first phase of a larger project, supported by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union : Mascarade, Masks and theatre for social inclusion, participation, democracy and education. This broader study examines cultural participation—particularly mask work and theater—as drivers of mutual understanding and as revealing of identities, and is available in five languages.

She holds a Master’s degree in Cultural Policies and Management in Europe (University Paris 8). Issues of participation, diversity, and cultural rights have been central to her work from the outset, shaped by her early experiences in Mexico and influenced by the pedagogy of Paulo Freire.

At ALTER EGO (X), she designed and coordinated European cooperation projects, including this research, and supported cultural professionals in their international development strategies. Der Beitrag untersucht die Diskrepanz zwischen dem nicht-jüdischen Diskurs über Juden in Deutschland und den vielfältigen Lebensrealitäten der jüdischen Bevölkerung nach 1945. Ausgehend von der symbolisch aufgeladenen Feier „1700 Jahre jüdisches Leben in Deutschland“ wird gezeigt, dass die behauptete historische Kontinuität weitgehend ein gesellschaftlicher Mythos ist, da die heutige jüdische Gemeinschaft überwiegend durch Migration seit 1990 geprägt wurde. Juden erscheinen im öffentlichen Diskurs häufig als Gegenstand von Erinnerungskultur, jedoch selten als empirisch erforschte soziale Gruppe mit eigener Stimme.
Der Beitrag argumentiert, dass diese Diskrepanz eng mit nationalstaatlichen Narrativen homogener Gemeinschaften zusammenhängt, die Migration als Abweichung statt als Normalität begreifen. Am Beispiel jüdischer Geschichte und Gegenwart wird Migration hingegen als konstitutives Element sozialer Realität herausgearbeitet. Zugleich wird auf die geringe Resilienz und die besondere Vulnerabilität der kleinen jüdischen Community in Deutschland hingewiesen, die sich unter anderem im starken Anstieg antisemitischer Gewalt – insbesondere seit dem 7. Oktober 2023 – zeigt.
Abschließend formuliert der Beitrag die Notwendigkeit, jüdische Selbstverständnisse, Zugehörigkeiten und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe stärker in den Fokus zu rücken. Methodisch erfolgt dies über einen historischen Überblick bis 1945, eine Analyse der Entwicklungen nach 1945 sowie eine Betrachtung gegenwärtiger Lebenswelten und möglicher Zukunftsperspektiven.

The goal of this study was to assess if a neurological disorder ultrasound workshop for the first-year medical students significantly enhanced the students' ability to retain and apply concepts related to neuroanatomy and neurophysiology. We performed a prospective study to evaluate student performance before and after an optional ultrasound workshop. Data were collected through a within-population pretest-posttest design. Purposive sampling was used to recruit first-year medical students for this study. The six stations were transcranial doppler ultrasound, ocular ultrasound, ultrasound-guided external ventricular drain placement, high-intensity focused ultrasound for brain lesions, carotid artery scan with ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided central line placement. We used a pre-post workshop survey to identify opinions and perceptions about ultrasound and a pre-post workshop test to assess knowledge about neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and related ultrasound topics. Twenty-two 22 first-year medical students consented to participate in this study. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed a statistically significant difference in pre-and posttest scores, suggesting that participants demonstrated higher levels of medical knowledge related to neurological physiology, anatomy, and ultrasound after participating in the workshop. The analysis of the pre-post survey showed participants attributed greater value to ultrasound as a useful tool for their future medical practice after participation in the event (Z = -2.45, P = 0.014). There is value in integrating experiences with ultrasound into the neurological disorder block of medical school. Future studies, with a larger sample size, are needed to further explore the efficacy of this workshop in enhancing knowledge retention.

Drawing on the authors' reflections after hosting a community launch event that shared outcomes from research about LGBTQIA+ inclusion in K-12 education in Western Australia, this report examines the importance of keeping the LGBTQIA+ acronym together, emphasizing its role in promoting inclusion, intersectionality, and equitable education. Global legislative actions targeting gender-diverse and queer youth, such as recent restrictive laws in the United States, threaten the fundamental right to education and undermine efforts toward achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 4 of quality education for all. Utilizing relevant education literature, researchers' reflections and introspective questions, this report stressed the interconnectedness of gender, sexuality, and other social identities, arguing that splitting the LGBTQIA+ acronym when doing educational advocacy risks perpetuating exclusion.

El origen del artículo fue la ponencia homónima llevada a cabo en el I Encuentro Bienal de Divulgación Científica en Educación. "Trayectorias y desafíos a 50 años de investigación educativa", realizada en la Facultad de Filosofía, Humanidades y Artes de la UNSJ, del 24 al 26 de octubre de 2024.

In 2011, Carolyn McCaskill et al. published a study of Black American Sign Language (Black ASL or BASL). The authors highlighted the fact that, just as Hearing Black Americans have an idiom and culture that is clearly distinctive from the "White mainstream," Black Deaf Americans have such a separate idiom and culture as well, only that theirs is purely visual. We still know little about this visual Black Deaf culture and its history. In this article, I provide a much-needed overview of Black Deaf history from the U.S. Civil War to the present day that connects the available, somewhat scattered pieces of information. Proceeding chronologically, I focus on major stages of development, including, first of all, the role of segregated schools for the deaf in the U.S. South between the 1860s and 1970s. Moreover, I examine the unique contributions of Black Deaf Americans to the Civil Rights Movement since the 1950s and point to the rising self-awareness of Black Deaf people in the course of the 1960s and 1970s, which culminated in 1980 in the establishment of a national interest group, the National Black and Deaf Advocates (NBDA). In moving along, I contextualize Black Deaf role models like Black Deaf missionary Andrew Foster. I close by exploring how the Internet has opened up new opportunities for spreading Black Deaf group awareness as a basis for studying Black Deaf culture and history further.

Quando una comunità viene osservata attraverso una lente improntata al sospetto, ciò che ne emerge non corrisponde alla complessità delle sue dinamiche interne, ma alla proiezione semplificata di categorie analitiche funzionali al mantenimento di assetti di potere preesistenti. Uno sguardo sospettoso non descrive il reale: opera selezioni arbitrarie, isola elementi particolari, irrigidisce processi fluidi. In questo modo, la comunità finisce per essere rappresentata come un'entità omogenea e statica, più oggetto di controllo che soggetto sociale. Una rappresentazione deformata, sottratta alla possibilità di autorappresentazione, diventa una materia modellabile, suscettibile di interpretazione, strumentalizzazione o travisamento, rischiando di intrappolare la comunità stessa in una cornice definita da attori esterni.

In this commentary contextualizing the complexities at the nexus of disability and applied linguistics (AL), the authors highlight the paucity of conscientious attention to disabled populations in AL research, explore the intricacies of choosing appropriate terminology to describe disability and disabled people, challenge scholars in the field to reflect on and make explicit their emic or etic positionality vis-à-vis disability in their research, and call researchers to consider researching with, rather than merely about, disabled second language learners. The authors (a) illustrate how a collection of emergent research studies illuminates critical considerations at this underresearched interdisciplinary intersection in the field, and (b) demonstrate, via example studies in other areas of AL, how scholars may choose to center the disabled second-language learning experience rather than relegate it to the far corners of the field.

This qualitative study describes the accommodation communication as it occurs between faculty in higher education and students with visible and invisible disabilities. Elements of an accommodation communication model are: (a) disclosure, (b) validation, (c) request, (d) responsibility, (e) timing, and (f) negotiation. The disability rights movement began in the fall of 1962 with Ed Roberts’s decision to chose a school based on his academic needs not his disability (Shapiro, 1993). In 1962, only four university campuses were accessible to individuals with disabilities. Children with disabilities were not guaranteed an education nor was there a legally protected right to an accessible education for non-veterans until the seventies. The passage of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (P. L. 93-112 ) containing Section 504 made it illegal for any federal agency, public university, or recipient of federal funds to discriminate against an individual on the basis of a disability.
