Food waste is one of the most critical global challenges, contributing to environmental degradation and food insecurity [5], [6]. A significant portion of edible food is wasted daily due to inefficient distribution systems, lack of coordination, and absence of real-time communication between food donors and recipients [1]. This paper presents the design and implementation of a Food Waste Redistribution System that connects restaurants, NGOs, and volunteers through a centralized digital platform. The system is developed using Java, Spring Boot, and MySQL, following the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture to ensure scalability and maintainability. The proposed system provides features such as food listing, real-time browsing, claim management, pickup scheduling, expiry tracking, and notification handling. Experimental observations show improved efficiency, reduced wastage, and better coordination. The system is scalable and suitable for real-world deployment.

Surplus & Safety Network is a smart Android-based mobile application designed to reduce food wastage and improve food safety by connecting restaurants, NGOs, volunteers, and the general public on a single platform. The application enables restaurants, hotels, and grocery stores to post real-time alerts about surplus food, allowing nearby NGOs, shelters, and volunteers to quickly coordinate collection and distribution to people in need. In addition to food redistribution, the platform allows users to add reviews and ratings of restaurants to promote food quality and safety awareness. The system integrates location tracking through Google Maps API for efficient pickup and delivery coordination, while technologies such as ML Kit or TensorFlow Lite can be used for intelligent prediction and analysis of food surplus patterns. Built using Android Studio with Java/Kotlin and SQLite for data management, FoodGuard aims to create a sustainable ecosystem that minimizes food waste, supports hunger relief efforts, and enhances transparency in food safety for communities, especially in rural and underserved areas. By leveraging modern mobile technologies and community participation, the application aims to reduce food waste, support hunger relief initiatives, enhance food safety awareness, and contribute to building a more sustainable and responsible food distribution ecosystem, particularly benefiting underserved and rural communities.

One of the best ways to decrease the number of wasted clothes and contribute to the development of communities is to donate them. However, because of the lack of controlled channels, unused clothes do not always go to the target audience and instead become waste instead of fulfilling them. The purpose of this project is to develop Rewearify an AI Based Sustainable Clothing Donation Platform that will help bridge the donors and NGOs in a transparent and seamless manner! It is based on the established MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js) to manage user roles, the item submission and approval process. Increment in the level of automation, Python FastAPI AI Service has been created, which employs Finite State Machines (FSM) to track statuses, Content-Based Filtering to combine words co-occurring and semantic matching using similarity of terms, Decision Trees to detect Fraud, K-Means Clustering due to logistic reasons. The site supports Socket notification in realtime.IO and status tracking and analytics dashboards, which are useful in facilitating the donation process. Rewearify also shifts to a more demand-based model of supply and introduces transparency and intelligent automation to the humanitarian supply chain.

This article inductively develops a model of how farmers market organizations can contribute to reduce food waste, fight poverty, and improve public health through innovative Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices enabled by networked activity systems. To this aim, a ten-year longitudinal case study of one of the biggest Italian farmers markets has been conducted, based on triangulated data from participant observation, interviews, and internal documents collection. This study suggests that farmers market organizations are in the position to leverage their inter-organizational relationships, institutional role, and power to build collaborative networks with businesses, government bodies, and charities, so that concrete CSR-based virtuous circles on surplus food donation are triggered at the organizational field level. Food waste has become one of the most critical challenges facing the whole world in the 21st century, as about one-third of all food produced on Earth, estimated to be about 1.3 billion tons annually, is wasted throughout the whole supply chain. The immense wastage contributes not only to food insecurity but also results in a serious environmental and economic burden due to greenhouse gas emissions, loss of resources, and inefficient consumption patterns. The conventional approaches towards food waste management lack traceability, realtime monitoring, and effective redistribution mechanisms that result in the premature disposal of edible products. These challenges are addressed in this review, which discusses the development of a smart QR-based shelf-life and food-sharing platform designed to track food freshness, prolong the active use of products, and enable the sharing of near-expired food. The system will dynamically monitor the shelf-life of food using QR code technology, cloud storage, and mobile application interfaces, and link users, retailers, and donation networks. This paper consequently reviews existing digital solutions and recent technological developments-such as IoT-enabled tracking, data analytics, and mobile-based food-sharing platforms-to present the potential of technology-driven frameworks in transforming food waste management. The review concludes that the proposed system promotes responsible consumption, sustainable food practices, and community engagement, therefore strongly aligning with global sustainability goals such as Zero Hunger (SDG 2) and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), turning food waste into valuable community resources.

Around 6 million tonnes of edible food are being wasted (post-farm gate) in the UK each year. This fraction of edible wasted food is known as avoidable food waste. In a circular economy food is a valuable resource that must be captured at all stages of the food supply chain and, where possible, redistributed for consumption. Food supply chains refer to complex processes describing how food arrives from farm to fork. Inevitably, food is wasted and lost over the supply chain, with a clear distinction between the two. The purpose of this paper is twofold. To begin, an analysis of multiple relevant papers is presented in a brief literature review, identifying possible causes, solutions and the economics of the food supply chain. Based on information from these papers, a proposal was drafted for addressing food loss at the retail level. This proposal comes in the form of a mobile application facilitating retailers to sell suboptimal products at a discounted rate. Key beneficiaries include food insecure people. Retailers would be incentivized to offer such discounts to promote greater profitability, reduce food waste, and improve internal environmental, social and governance goals. Limitations on the proposal's effectiveness were described along with recommendations for further research.

The existing blood banking system includes a lot of work which takes a lot of time and human effort. This is an android based application. This application is adaptable to meet complex and dire need for blood. This app enables users to find blood in emergency situations. The proposed system has a login page where the user is required to register and only then can view the blood availability and may also register if he/she wants to donate blood .Thus this blood donation application helps to select the right donor online instantly using medical details along with the blood group. This project acts majorly in saving life of human beings and which is also its main aim. The RED DROP application is developed so that users can sight the information about registered blood donors such as their name, locality, and some other personal information along with their blood group details and other medical information of the donor. The GPS methodology will be used so that location of the nearby donors will also be indicated. Thus this application provides the required information in no time and also helps in quicker decision making. The application is designed in such a way to avoid possible errors while entering the data.It also provides error messages while entering invalid data.

Food produced but not used for human consumption is a waste of natural resources. In order to prevent and reduce food waste, the main causes have to be identified systematically along the food supply chain (FSC). The aim of this study is (1) to shed light on the causes and effects of food waste through the analysis of 44 qualitative expert interviews examining the processes and intermediaries along the German food chain and (2) to find methods to reduce it. Results indicate that food waste occurs at all stages in the food chain. Thus, there is no single culprit to be blamed. Besides, the identified reasons for food waste differ between product groups; not a single solution can cause notable change. Furthermore, the analysis demonstrates that the causes and effects of food waste are to be found at different stages of the value chain. Hence, it is of high importance to improve communication and to raise a new appreciation for food among all stakeholders of the food supply chain in order to develop a more sustainable food system. Information on the topic of food waste needs to be shared among all actors of the supply chain. They need to share responsibility and work together to reduce food waste.

Protection of the quality products and particularly Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)/Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) foods is a strategic issue in the EU economy, in terms of protection of market competition and safety. Having reliable tools for the assessment of key parameters useful for the identification of authenticity and/or frauds is therefore of main interest. In this work, the isotope ratios of stable elements variability of four PDO cheeses (Taleggio PDO, Asiago PDO, Pecorino Toscano PDO, and Provolone Valpadana PDO) were investigated with the aim to find discrimination among different kinds of cheeses. The specificity of isotope ratios of stable elements can be profitably used when sample characteristics, conditions, or degradation strongly suggest looking directly at the atoms rather than to the molecules. We analyzed five isotopic parameters: δ13C and δ15N on casein fraction and on cheese as a whole; δ13C on the fat fraction of the cheese. The dataset was composed by 118 cheese samples coming from five different Italian regions and collected over a 3-year period. Data elaboration showed that beyond interesting differences already observed on each individual cheese on the basis of some parameters taken into account (year, season, province, altitude), the characteristic isotopic ratios of each cheese are stable within a narrow range of δ‰. Univariate analysis showed that single parameters were not enough to provide a clear discrimination between each cheese, while principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares regression-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) showed a good separation between cheese classes, particularly for the Pecorino Toscano cheese type. This data suggested a positive indication to the possibility of introducing in the production disciplinary of the concerned cheeses also a range of isotopic ratios of C and N as a further tool for the protection of this four types of PDO cheeses.

Food loss and waste are associated with an unnecessary consumption of natural resources and avoidable greenhouse gas emissions. The United Nations have thus set the reduction of food loss and waste on the political agenda by means of the Sustainable Development Goal Target 12.3. The German Federal Government committed itself to this goal by implementing the National Strategy for Food Waste Reduction in 2019. However, this policy approach relies heavily on voluntary action by involved actors and neglects the possible role of power imbalances along the food supply chain. Food waste (FW) is always considered as one of the main challenges for the planet Earth in terms of ethical and social impacts as well as economic and environmental ones. In September 2015, the UN launched the Agenda for 2030 for sustainable development, establishing the 50% reduction in FW at the retail and consumer levels by 2030, as well as food loss along food supply chains. However, there are some concerns about the possibility of concretely reaching this target. One is surely due to the fact that more targeted strategies are more oriented towards logistic/marketing functions than social ones, losing the importance deriving from the reconfiguration of social networks in food redistribution. In this context, the aim of this paper is to improve understanding about how social innovation models can enhance FW reduction, building new relations inside the stakeholders network, and involving new actors usually not actively participating. To do this, the authors present a case study of an Italian non-profit project, named Avanzi Popolo 2.0, adopting this type of approach. The results highlight the importance of building the sense of community and of creating social capital in local food redistribution networks for tackling the issue of FW reduction.
