Forest cover change is one of the environmental issues that continually gotten international attention. This study describes how to develop a spatial model of change in each village-based typology by considering various this biophysical and social-economic factors. The village typologies were investigated by applying the clustering analysis approach. The objective of this study was to develop the spatial model and to identify the driving forces of forest cover change by the village in Kubu Raya Regency of West Kalimantan. Based on the proportion of forest in 1 9 0.01+0.0001X +0.0004X with OA of % for and Y = 0.02+0.0001X -83 and mean deviation (SR) 10.5% T1 2 3 1 0.0002X with OA % for 2. The study concludes that the proximity from the center of the human 53 and SR 13.3% T 9 activities holds a significant influence on the behavior of forest cover changes.

Urbanisation is a global phenomenon that is transforming landscapes and socioeconomic dynamics. The complicated interplay between urban infrastructure and environmental factors becomes increasingly important as cities grow and adapt. Among the numerous repercussions of urbanisation, urban heat islands (UHIs) are of particular importance, highlighting the intricate effects of urban landscapes on local temperatures. The Berekum Municipal, located in the bustling heartland of Ghana, reflects the problems and transformations seen in many urban centres worldwide. Rapid urban development, driven by the spread of transportation networks, has reshaped the spatial fabric of this municipality. This study investigates the thermal dynamics and spatial characteristics of Land Surface Temperature (LST) and UHIs in the context of road-induced impacts within the Berekum Municipal spanning from 2003 to 2023. The analysis reveals a consistent upward shift in mean LST, signalling a warming trend, alongside escalating Urban Heat Island (UHI) intensities, indicative of amplified thermal disparities between urban and non-urban regions. Robust relational models established between LST and UHIs highlight the pivotal role of LST in influencing UHI formation and escalation. Moreover, the assessment of road-induced UHIs showcases an increase in intensity and spatial coverage, emphasizing the influential role of road networks in exacerbating thermal impacts. These findings stress the critical need for climate-resilient urban planning strategies to mitigate adverse thermal effects and promote sustainable urban development within the evolving landscape of Berekum Municipal.

The Central Mesa Verde (CMV) Region of the U.S. Southwest is one of the most heavily researched prehistoric landscapes in the United States. The ancestral Puebloans, known for their impressive and readily apparent stone and mortar dwellings across the landscape, have been the archaeological focus of the region for nearly 150 years. Investigations of the social, political, and subsistence practices of the Puebloans during the Pueblo III period (1150-1300 A.D.) and the complete depopulation of the region by 1300 A.D. have been the focus of this anthropological and archaeological research. More recently, most of the research done in the CMV during this time has focused on community centers or aggregated region-wide assessments of prehistoric occupation. While the insights into socio-political practices and ideologies, settlement strategies, and land use strategies from these endeavors have produced valuable information about the ancestral Puebloans during this period, the focus on community centers and region-wide assessments have created gaps within the prehistoric narrative. 
Relatively few research endeavors have focused on smaller habitation sites, agricultural areas, occupational niches, and more localized assessments of the prehistoric landscape.
Intensive survey and investigation of a newly identified occupational and agricultural niche in Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, Three Step Hamlet (5DL4920), provides the framework to assess previously theorized ideas of ancestral Puebloan settlement, community relations, subsistence, and persistence within marginal landscape spaces during the Pueblo III period.

Öz Bu çalışma, alegori sözcüğünün otantik anlamına yoğunlaşarak onun dilsel düzeydeki temsili üzerine yapılacak hermeneutik bir etkinliği kapsar. Bu hermeneutik etkinlik ilgili sözcüğün kök anlamlarını tespit edip değerlendirerek bir öz ve nitelik saptaması kabilinde görülen otantik anlama ulaşmayı ve ayrıca sözcüğün saptanan otantisitesini çözümlemeyi amaçlar. En nihayetinde bir açımlama olan hermeneutik etkinlik genel olarak içte olanın dışarıya çıkartılma işidir. Alegori sözcüğünün ortaya konulacak olan otantisitesi böylesi bir hermeneutik üzerinden çözümlenecektir. Dilsel düzeyde üstü kapalı anlatım üzerine kurulu olan alegori, kurgu içeren sübjektif yapısıyla temsil üzerine inşâ edilmiş bir simgeleme veya benzetme olmasından dolayı esasen bir fikri yansıtır. Alegorinin oluşturmuş olduğu alegorik anlatının bütününde ortaya çıkan göstergede gösterilen öğe, anlatıyı oluşturan kelimeler üzerinden verilmez. Burada gösterilmesi amaçlanan şey, ilgili anlatıda yer alan kelimelerin çağrışımsal düzeydeki bağlantıları aracılığıyla anlaşılmaya çalışılır. Bundan dolayı alegorik anlatıda gerçekte kastedilen şey, yüksek seviyede bir düşünce etkinliği üzerinden ortaya çıkar. Böylelikle üstü kapalı bir anlatım olan alegorinin gerçekteki anlam[lar]ı üzerine çekilmiş örtü kaldırılmış ve anlam[lar] ortaya çıkarılmış olur. Alegorik anlatı, yaratıcı edimin bir ürünü olmasıyla edebî/sanatsal olandan paye alır. Diğer taraftan felsefi bağlamda öze dönük yanı, ona felsefi bir değer katar. Bir başka ifadeyle alegorinin edebi yönü sanattan beslenen kurgusallığın vermiş olduğu imkânlardan doğarken, felsefi yönüyse bir şeyin özünü vermeye çalışmaktan ortaya çıkar. Spatial vagueness represents a fundamental epistemological, linguistic, and ontological challenge in geographic information science. Unlike measurement errors, vagueness arises from the intrinsic properties of both spatial objects and human cognition. This article analyses the nature and consequences of vagueness in geographic modelling, distinguishing it from uncertainty and generality. The paper explores how linguistic imprecision, conceptual boundaries, and ontological indeterminacy affect the classification and representation of spatial phenomena. Using examples such as forest boundaries, urban areas, and geographic categories, it highlights how vagueness influences GIS databases, spatial decision-making, and the integration of spatial data. The study argues that vagueness should not be treated as an error, but as an inherent element of spatial representation requiring appropriate theoretical and technical approaches.

This research takes a closer look at how the authenticity of Pilas heritage sites shapes the travel experience and plays a key role in developing sustainable tourist attractions. By diving into the rich history and culture of Pila, we explore how visitors connect with these places, and how the sense of “authenticity” can deepen their experience while helping to preserve what makes these sites special. Our study emphasizes the importance of striking a balance between welcoming visitors and safeguarding the local heritage for future generations. We also reflect on how sustainable tourism can benefit the community, fostering both pride and responsibility. In the end, this paper offers insights into how we can create tourism experiences that are not only memorable and meaningful for travelers but also respectful and supportive of the local culture and environment. This study investigates the authenticity of heritage tourism in Pila, Laguna, Philippines, focusing on the roles of spiritual, experiential, commercial, and architectural authenticity in shaping tourist satisfaction, revisit intentions, and loyalty. Survey data reveal high authenticity perceptions: spiritual authenticity (M = 3.33), experiential authenticity (M = 3.30), commercial authenticity (M = 3.47), and architectural authenticity (M = 3.63), all rated as “Very High.” The strongest correlations were found between commercial authenticity and tourist loyalty (r = 0.6375) and revisit intention (r = 0.6838), as well as between experiential authenticity and revisit intention (r = 0.6264). These findings highlight the importance of authenticity in fostering long-term visitor engagement, supporting local identity, and contributing to tourism growth.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have emerged as indispensable tools in the field of natural resource management, particularly in hydrological studies involving water harvesting and watershed analysis. This study focuses on delineating the watershed of the Tapi River basin using Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data processed through QGIS software. Algorithms and spatial plugins within QGIS were applied to extract and analyses the drainage network across three sub-catchments of the basin. The analysis produced accumulation maps, cut-and-fill maps, and thematic outputs that can inform decision-making related to ground and surface water resource distribution and management. The derived watershed data also facilitates computation of key hydrological and topographic parameters.

Research on urban space has a long tradition in classical studies. Current research of ancient urban spaces continues on in this tradition. It is essential to determine the position of research history in order to define the prospects of current urban studies in a more differentiated way: only those who are conversant with the history-of-science determination of their respective fields are able, intuitively and critically, to put innovative approaches and methods to the test. Based on the projects of the research group C-6, the various threads of history-of-science developments will be outlined and the current approaches defined in the context of constant re-orientation and new orientation of classical urban studies.

Il contributo sostiene che il vero nodo critico non risieda nella quantità di informazioni disponibili, bensì nella frammentazione del patrimonio informativo e nella persistenza di silos organizzativi che impediscono il riuso coerente dei dati.

Abstract. One of the main problems facing 3D city modelling applications is lack of interoperability among various Building Information Models (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) models. CityGML (representing a wide range of 3D urban objects) and IFC (representing a very detailed semantic model for buildings) are considered the most prominent semantic models in GIS and BIM, respectively, today. When integrating the two models, substantial difficulties may arise in transforming information from one to the other. Professionals from both domains have made significant efforts to integrate CityGML and IFC models for seeking useful common applications. However, most of these efforts use a unidirectional method (mostly from IFC to CityGML) for a conversion process. Özet: Devletin, vatandaĢlarına sunduğu kamu hizmetlerinin ulusal düzeyde olanları merkezi yönetim aracılığıyla, yerel düzeyde olanları ise yerel yönetimler aracılığıyla yerine getirilir. Bu hizmetleri yerelde sunan yerel yönetimler; kanunlarla belirlenmiĢ yetkilere, özel gelirlere, bütçeye, personele, idari örgüte, yerel halk tarafından seçilen karar ve yürütme organlarına, yönetsel özerkliğe sahip kamu tüzel kiĢileridir. 2012 yılında yerel yönetimler alanında yapılan son değiĢikliklerle -6360 sayılı kanun ile-büyükĢehir belediyesi olan KahramanmaraĢ ilindeki mevcut 62 belediye teĢkilatı, 12 belediyeye düĢmüĢ, köylerinin tamamı ile 52 belde belediyesi mahalle statüsüne dönüĢtürülmüĢtür. Aynı zamanda il belediyesi, büyükĢehir belediyesi statüsüne kavuĢmuĢ ve büyükĢehir belediye sınırları il mülki idare sınırları olarak belirlenmiĢtir. Yeni büyükĢehir kanunu kabul edilmeden önce belediyeler sadece Ģehir ve kasabalarda mücavir alan sınırında hizmet verirken, bu kanun ile beraber kırsal yerleĢmelere de hizmet vermeye baĢlamıĢtır. Buradan da anlaĢılacağı gibi bu düzenleme ile büyükĢehir belediye sınırları il mülki sınırlarına geniĢletilirken, düzenlemenin fonksiyonel ve mekânsal bir değerlendirme olmayıp, tamamıyla siyasi bir kararla gerçekleĢtirildiği anlaĢılmaktadır. Due to digital transformation in finance, researchers have paid dramatic attention to evaluating the impact of financial technology on regional innovation efficiency. Hence, since Fintech's ability is found to significantly influence local innovation, the current research was primarily designed to scrutinize the relationship between financial technology (Fintech) and regional innovation efficiency in Jordan. Moreover, by utilizing the dynamic spatial Durbin model, the study provided empirical evidence for the impact of Fintech's spatial spillover in a sample of 12 Jordanian Governorates for the period 2013-2022. Consequently, the findings proved that there is a noteworthy worldwide spatial correlation and time dependence of regional innovation efficiency during the study period. Additionally, Fintech improves regional innovation efficiency, and this effect has a large positive spatial spillover. Therefore, the study recommends that the financial sector in Jordan use innovative strategies and financial technology to boost regional innovation efficiency and technological innovation.

This chapter presents an interdisciplinary approach based on the connection between semiotics and cultural geography, to explore the meaning-making of the built environment. To do so, it first completes a review on the semiotic and cultural geographical literature on the built environment. It then outlines the theoretical and methodological approach connecting semiotics and cultural geography, being the basis for treatment of the meaning-making and interpretation of the built environment.

This model enables an assessment of the hydrological and economic merits of different water allocation-substitution strategies, both over the whole catchment and in each political region and jurisdiction within it, to be undertaken. Not only are the differences in the water allocated to each region and use revealed, but also the net present values associated with each use within each region. In addition, it is possible to determine measures of equity in water distribution using this approach. It was found that over a period from 2008 to 2031 the South Creek catchment in total would on average use approximately 50,600 ML of potable water a year, the vast majority of this is used in the two urban regions of Penrith and Blacktown. There is, I would suggest, an implicit politics running from Burke to Fluck’s work. Conceiving of literature as symbolic action is a compelling approach, not least because it suggests that the symbolizing acts of culture, marked as they are by endless back-and-forth, are of a piece with the culture of democracy. That back-and-forth may take the form of the endless dialogue of call and response, statement and counter-statement (Burke the rhetorician), or it may take the form of a reconstruction of how one makes sense of the world, given that this world is constantly changing (Burke the Pragmatist, as taken up by Fluck).
What Burke, writing in the 1930s and 1940s, remained aware of, however, is that the war of words may turn into a war of physical violence. By extension, I think a key concern for Burke was that in conceptualizing literature as symbolic action, one has to remain mindful that democracy cannot be taken for granted, that it can devolve into demagoguery and fascism. This, one might say, is the advantage of pairing a Pragmatist perspective of the symbolic animal as a forever-reconstructive being with a rhetorical perspective in which the symbolic animal may, under certain conditions, be stripped of its capacity for reconstruction.

Coal remains a major global energy source despite ongoing environmental controversies, particularly, regarding climate change and landscape transformation. This study investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of land use and land cover (LULC) in the Moatize Coal Basin (MCB), Mozambique, between 1990 and 2024, with a specific focus on land degradation processes. Atmospherically and geometrically corrected Landsat imagery was used to generate annual cloud-free mosaics for LULC mapping. Supervised classification was performed using spectral bands, spectral indices, and temporal metrics within the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, achieving an impressive average overall accuracy of 85.67% and Kappa coefficient of 0.7679. Spatial patterns were quantified using fractal dimension (D), estimated through the combined application of the box-counting and leastsquares regression methods, and complemented by Shannon entropy (H) to assess class distribution and structural heterogeneity. The results indicate that, following the onset of intensive mining activities in 2011, exposed surfaces expanded rapidly, with an increase of 52.91%, directly attributable to mining operations. The fractal dimension of these areas approached 2.0, indicating highly fragmented and irregular spatial patterns. Concurrently, rising entropy values, particularly after 2011, reflect increasing landscape disorder and reduced ecological coherence. Overall, the findings demonstrate that coal mining has been the dominant driver of LULC reconfiguration in the MCB, promoting landscape fragmentation, expansion of exposed surfaces, and progressive land degradation. The integration of fractal and entropy-based metrics with long-term remote sensing data provides a robust framework for assessing mining-induced landscape transformation in data-scarce regions. Arıcılık, biyoçeşitliliğe katkı sunarak kırsal kalkınmaya sağladığı destekten ötürü önemli bir faaliyet türüdür. Arıcılıktan elde edilen verimin arttırılabilmesi ve sürdürülebilirlik için bu faaliyet türünün yapılabileceği uygun yerlerin belirlenmesi gerekmektedir. Yapılan bu çalışmada, Bitlis ilinde Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemi (CBS) ve Çok Kriterli Karar Verme (ÇKKV) yöntemleri kullanılarak arıcılık için bir yer seçimi değerlendirme modeli önerilmektedir. Çalışmanın amacı yerel arıcılık faaliyetleri ile uğraşan kişilerin yanı sıra literatür verilerini de dikkate alan çok kriterli değerlendirmeye dayalı mekânsal bir karar destek sistemi oluşturmaktır. Çalışma ile Bitlis ili için arıcılığın yapılabileceği uygun alanlar belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada 11 kriter (84 alt kriter) seçilmiştir. Arıcılık faaliyetlerini olumsuz etkileyeceği için 5 alt kriter ise sınırlandırıcı olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada arazi kullanımı/örtüsü, akarsulara mesafe, ortalama sıcaklık (mayıs-ağustos), NDVI, rüzgâr hızı (mayıs-ağustos), bakı, yükseklik, yağış (mayıs-ağustos), eğim, yola uzaklık ve elektrik hatlarına uzaklık kriterleri kullanılmıştır ve bu kriterlere ait tematik haritalar oluşturulmuştur. Değerlendirme kriterlerinin ağırlıklarının hesaplanmasında AHP yöntemi kullanılmıştır ve CBS ortamında ağırlıklı bindirme yöntemi ile arazi uygunluk haritası elde edilmiştir. Arazi uygunluk haritasında arıcılığın yapılabileceği çok uygun ve uygun alanların sırasıyla 1.620,02 km2 ve 2.003,81 km2, yüzey alanlarına sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Oluşturulan uygunluk haritasında en uygun yerlerin sırasıyla Mutki, Merkez, Hizan, Tatvan, Ahlat, Güroymak ve Adilcevaz ilçelerinde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışma, arıcılık faaliyetleri ile uğraşan insanların haricinde sürdürülebilir tarım ve hayvancılık stratejilerinin oluşturulmasında, karar vericiler için de önemli bir kılavuz olacaktır.

Geographic Regression Discontinuity Designs (GRDDs) are used to estimate longrun historical effects, despite well-established results showing that RDD requires a discontinuous assignment rule rather than merely plausibly exogenous spatial variation. This article evaluates Henn et al.'s (Comparative Political Studies. 10.1177/00104140251369335, 2025) study in Comparative Political Studies, which treats Catholic diocesan boundaries as quasi-random cutoffs. Archival church records indicate that these boundaries were endogenous to colonial infrastructure, disease ecology, settler geography, and ecclesiastical administration. Spatial-econometric simulations demonstrate that standard GRDD specifications produce statistically significant effects in 64-71% of placebo tests when no true effect exists. The implication is methodological rather than case-specific: designs lacking discontinuous assignment can transform spatial noise into apparent causal effects.

This paper presents the research project Circular Design for Natural Fibers (CD4NF), which promotes the transition towards Circular Economy practices in Made in Italy productions across the furniture, textile, and construction sectors, focusing on the use of natural fibers derived from the Italian agro-industrial system. The study explores how the development of new bio-based materials and products-framed within sustainability principles and aligned with Circular Economy and Circular Design approaches-represents a dynamic area of debate for the design discipline, raising critical questions around technologies, contexts, and development paths. The paper also illustrates the designdriven methodology adopted in the project, particularly in the application of systemic design to the cases of bamboo and hemp and discusses its integration with contributions from other disciplines. Finally, it emphasizes the connection between local supply chains and their territories, understood not only as productive ecosystems but also as expressions of cultural heritage, thereby enhancing the value of Made in Italy design.

This paper proposes an exploratory cognitive-spatial mapping framework aligning neuroaesthetic principles of perceptual experience with the directional archetypes encoded in Vastu Shastra. Drawing upon V.S. Ramachandran's eight proposed laws of artistic experience, the present work introduces a ninth integrative principle-Integrative Coherence-corresponding to the Brahmasthana (central organizing void) in traditional architectural planning. The resulting "Neuro-Vastu Compass" maps perceptual heuristics such as contrast sensitivity, peak shift exaggeration, grouping, symmetry bias, metaphor processing, and attentional isolation onto the eight directional zones and the central axis. This model is presented as a methodological and interpretive heuristic rather than a causal or metaphysical claim, offering a structured vocabulary for directional aesthetics, architectural cognition, and perceptual completion research.

Temperature and rainfall fluctuations, along with soil degradation, significantly impact the rubber plantation distribution, productivity, and economic viability of farmers. This study examines the combined influence of topsoil characteristics and climate on the suitability of rubber plantations in the Badalkumbura Divisional Secretariat Division. Land Surface Temperature (LST) analysis was conducted in 2014 and 2024 to assess temperature trends, while rainfall and temperature variations from 2011-2024 were analyzed using data from the Department of Meteorology and represented graphically. Soil quality was determined through laboratory analysis of samples collected from 25 Grama Niladhari Divisions among 41 Grama Niladhari Divisions in Badalkumbura Divisional Secretariat Division, focusing on parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity (EC), moisture content (MC), and texture. Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) interpolation was used to generate soil suitability maps. Multiple regression analysis was applied to assess the relationship between climatic and soil variables and rubber plantation patterns. The LST analysis identified a notable increase in land surface temperature from 2014 to 2024. From 2011-2024, minimum temperature consistently met the requirements for rubber, yet maximum temperature occasionally exceeded 34°C, especially in Yala seasons, potentially limiting productivity than the Maha season. Rainfall conditions during some Maha seasons were favorable and corresponded with periods of increasing market prices, encouraging plantation expansion. On the basis of pH, EC, MC, and texture, while none of the GN divisions meet all four suitability parameters, many meet three and are therefore recognized as priority zones for plantation establishment. The areas of Hingurukaduwa, Dewathura, Ankada, Ethpattiya, Ranugalla, and Miyanakandura were identified as highly favorable for rubber. These optimal places fall within Badalkumbura V, particularly "Ihala Kandukaraya". In correlation, temperature, rainfall, and soil quality were found to moderately influence rubber plantation trends in Badalkumbura. Finally, this study provides valuable insights for identifying suitable plantation zones and highlights the importance of integrated climate-soil management and policy support for sustainable rubber cultivation in Badalkumbura.

This paper outlines the arguments and counterarguments within the scientific communities on the issue of common genetic factors discovered in mental disorders. The main objective of the research is to analyse the relationship between genetics and mental health. The relevance of this study by FAAVM Canada, (North America), is to help recognize that major mental health disorders share certain genetic defects. These findings may also point to apply better multidisciplinary scientific research methodologies to diagnose and treat these conditions. However, genetic factors can increase the risks of mental health issues, or make us more vulnerable to developing them, by reducing the brain's ability to deal with or compensate for traumas and other cognitive disruptions. This research empirically confirms and theoretically proves that the results can be useful for vaccine and pharmaceutical drug development. Across the European Union (EU) region, approximately 165 million people are affected annually by mental illnesses, for the most part, anxiety, mood, and substance abuse disorders. On average, over 50% of the general population in middle-income and high-income countries will experience at least one mental illness at some point in their lives. That being said, mental illnesses are by no means limited to a minority group of predisposed persons but are a major public health challenge. These scientific attributes are in fact mandatory diagnostic criteria that exert considerable socioeconomic repercussions not only for those affected but also for their families, communities, social, and employment related environments. In the first year of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, global frequency of anxiety and depression increased by an immense 25%, according to a scientific summary released by the World Health Organization (WHO). Mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders account for over 10.4% of the global burden of mental health diseases, owing to demographic changes and prolonged life expectancy, and were the leading cause of years lived with disability among all disease groups.

Significance Humans are exposed to toxic methylmercury mainly by consuming marine fish. New environmental policies under the Minamata Convention rely on a yet-poorly-known understanding of how mercury emissions translate into fish methylmercury levels. Here, we provide the first detailed map of mercury concentrations from skipjack tuna across the Pacific. Our study shows that the natural functioning of the global ocean has an important influence on tuna mercury concentrations, specifically in relation to the depth at which methylmercury concentrations peak in the water column. However, mercury inputs originating from anthropogenic sources are also detectable, leading to enhanced tuna mercury levels in the northwestern Pacific Ocean that cannot be explained solely by oceanic processes.

In 1978, Michael Halliday published a book under the title Language as Social Semiotic: The Social Interpretation of Language and Meaning, giving an initial impetus to the systematic exploration of the interface of semiotic and social. Talking about social semiotic, Halliday was focused on how functional and meaningful aspects of human social life are expressed in communication and language. Thus, a convergence appeared between semiotic system (langue) and semiotic product (parole) on the one hand, and social system and social action on the other. Importantly, Halliday's project aspired to go beyond the usual interpretations of society and language as two domains that are connected merely by juxtaposition. Halliday insisted that in their very essence language and society are an inseparable unity of the mutually supplementing elements of human existence that are the social and the semiotic. (Halliday 1978, 4). Halliday's approach was further developed and reinterpreted by Bob Hodge and Gunther Kress in their book Social Semiotics (1988), in which they showed that the convergence of social and semiotic is relevant not only for language, but for all the modes of human communication. This conceptualization arose as a result of the further synthesis of ideas from the field of critical social theories (primarily Marxism) and Hallidayan system-functional linguistics. Speaking about the subject area of Social Semiotics, Hodge and Kress explained that it is concerned with the entirety of human semiosis which is "an inherently social phenomenon in its sources, functions, contexts and effects" (Hodge, Kress 1988, 261). By taking this stance, they essentially elaborated, at a new level, the ideas of Charles W. Morris, who, 50 years earlier, noted that the common property of the subjects of all Linguistic Frontiers • 3(2) • 34-43 • 2020

Regional disparities in human capital accumulation have long been a concern, particularly in developing countries, where unequal access to education and employment opportunities exacerbates economic inequality. The geographical distribution of human capital is a key factor in its formation and accumulation of human capital. The heterogeneity of this behaviour and the neighbourhood effect allow for the concentration of skilled and productive individuals. This study analysed the spatial variation in the explanatory determinants of human capital concentration in Tunisian local labour markets using a spatially autoregressive geographically weighted regression approach. MGWR-SAR methods were used to model the varying spatial relationships between human capital and its explanatory variables. The results suggested that suffers from tertiary education costs, transport costs and high unemployment prevent the balanced geographical distribution of human capital. However, skill mismatches and job search frictions contributed to the spatial heterogeneity of human capital and employment. The mapping of explanatory factors also showed the importance of other variables such as matches, unemployment, productive sectors and technical change. Finally, the MGWR model provided an improved determination of the spatial regimes of human capital concentration compared to global regression models.

In the past few years the spatial shift of economic activities has become a focus of interest for several reasons in Hungary. Within economics, it is conventionally location theories that are concerned about the issue of spatiality and seek an answer to the question: which point of space would offer suitable or optimal conditions for the operation of an enterprise for a given activity. Each of the three classical location theories can perfectly model the spatial decentralisation of the economy; however, due to their company-centred - micro level - approach, they cannot or can only with restrictions model a comprehensive process. Developing complex indicators measuring economic output, added value and indicators relying on an entirely different basis, researchers worked on the assumption that economic output does not correlate strongly with people’s happiness or quality of life. Most measurements relate to countries and federal states. Only a few seek to present or model differences at lower territorial levels. This study discloses the first results of pilot calculations that have been performed as part of Hungary’s Social Renewal Programme. These explore differences at the level of Hungarian districts (LAU1) with the proviso, that the spatial structure presented only reflects what is called objective well-being. A more comprehensive picture can be obtained only if the subjective well-being dimensions incorporating and weighted by the results of a large-scale sample survey, conducted in the meantime, are also taken into account.

The objective of this study is to reduce the number of indicators that affect correlated economic growth into the main component variables. Pada penelitian ini, teknik pengolahan citra dikembangkan agar dapat menentukan kondisi udara suatu lingkungan baik kondisi udara yang bersih maupun yang kotor berdasarkan citra inframerah. Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania, has undergone rapid population growth over recent decades. This surge in population has been accompanied by inadequate enforcement of urban planning regulations. The combination of these factors has led to extensive urban sprawl with far-reaching environmental and socioeconomic consequences. Environmentally, the unchecked spread of the city has contributed to the loss of natural habitats, increased flooding risk, heat stress, and the degradation of vital ecosystems. Socioeconomically, urban sprawl has placed considerable strain on public infrastructure, reduced access to essential services, and exacerbated inequalities within the city. Overall, the lack of effective planning has intensified the challenges associated with rapid urbanisation in Dar es Salaam. This study integrated remote sensing and landscape metrics to assess urban sprawl dynamics over three decades (1995-2024). Thereby, it sought to highlight the phenomenon of peri-urban expansion and its associated risks (e.g., flooding, heat stress, and vegetation loss). Multi-temporal Landsat imagery was processed by using the random forest supervised classification, accuracy assessment, and post-classification change detection methodologies. To quantify spatial patterns, fragmentation, and connectivity, the landscape metrics package was used to compute R for the landscape metrics, namely, percentage of landscape (PLAND), number of patches (NP), patch density (PD), total edges (TE), and aggregation index (AI). The results reveal a dramatic increase in built-up areas from 73 km² (4.41%) in 1995 to 131 km² (7.92%) in 2009 and 409 km² (24.73%) in 2024, reflecting a 20.31 percentage point rise. Urban expansion into periurban zones has displaced agricultural land and the natural vegetation, creating hotspots of environmental vulnerability characterised by the threat of increased flooding, vegetation loss, and heat stress. Fragmentation was found to intensify, with NP rising from 5,432 to 26,368 and TE increasing by more than sixfold, whereas declining AI values indicated weakened patch connectivity. This study shows how urban growth threatens natural ecosystems, infrastructure, mobility, and green spaces. Unlike recent socioeconomic studies, it offers a spatially explicit assessment of growth, fragmentation, and directionality. Reliable estimates of past land cover are critical for assessing potential effects of anthropogenic land-cover changes on past earth surface-climate feedbacks and landscape complexity. Fossil pollen records from lakes and bogs have provided important information on past natural and human-induced vegetation cover. However, those records provide only point estimates of past land cover, and not the spatially continuous maps at regional and sub-continental scales needed for climate modelling. We propose a set of statistical models that create spatially continuous maps of past land cover by combining two data sets: 1) pollen-based point estimates of past land cover (from the REVEALS model), and 2) spatially continuous estimates of past land cover, obtained by combining simulated potential vegetation (from LPJ-GUESS) with an anthropogenic land-cover change scenario (KK10). The proposed models rely on statistical methodology for compositional data and use Gaussian Markov Random Fields to model spatial dependencies in the data. Land-cover reconstructions are presented for three time windows in Europe: 0.05 ka, 0.2 ka, and 6 ka years before present (BP). The models are evaluated through cross-validation, deviance information criteria and by comparing the reconstruction of the 0.05 ka time window to the present-day land-cover data compiled by the European Forest Institute (EFI). For 0.05 ka, the proposed models provide reconstructions that are closer to the EFI data than either the REVEALS-or LPJ-GUESS/KK10-based estimates; thus the statistical combination of the two estimates improves the reconstruction. The reconstruction by the proposed models for 0.2 ka is also good. For 6 ka, however, the large differences between the REVEALS-and LPJ-GUESS/KK10-based estimates reduce the reliability of the proposed models. Possible reasons for the increased differences between REVEALS and LPJ-GUESS/KK10 for older time periods and further improvement of the proposed models are discussed.

We adapt Kim Rossmo's Criminal Geographic Targeting (CGT) formula into a rigorous spatial-utility model for residential property pricing. The model produces a continuous locational-utility and desirability field over a geographic domain that encodes a short-range buffer around amenity anchors, produces attraction at intermediate distances via distance decay, and exhibits long-range decay in response to disincentives. We give precise assumptions, analytic properties, identification remarks, estimation procedures, derivatives for gradient optimization, a simulation protocol, and suggestions for extensions of the core model.

Soil micronutrient assessment is crucial for ensuring sustainable crop production and environmental quality, particularly in intensively cultivated regions. This study aimed to evaluate and map the spatial distribution of Diethylenetriamine Pentaacetic Acid (DTPA)extractable micronutrients (Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu) in agricultural lands of Thirunallar commune, Karaikal, for augmenting site-specific nutrient management. A total of 233 georeferenced surface soil samples (0-20 cm) were collected using a handheld GPS on a pre-defined grid and analyzed for available micronutrients. The spatial variability and distribution patterns were generated in ArcGIS 10.8.2 using semivariogram-based kriging interpolation. The results indicated that Fe, Mn and Cu were sufficient across the study area, with concentrations ranging from 4.74 to 99.80 ppm, 3.70-97.40 ppm, and 1.46-12.40 ppm, respectively, mainly due to the presence of iron-rich minerals, reduced manganese forms, and continuous application of copper-based inputs. Zinc showed greater variability (0.52-17.20 ppm), ranging from deficient to sufficient levels, likely influenced by fertilizer application and organic matter additions. The findings emphasize the importance of site-specific nutrient management to optimize fertilizer usage and crop productivity, particularly in fine-textured clay soils. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of geostatistical approaches for supporting precision agriculture in micronutrient-deficient areas.
