📢 New report published: Building Food 2040: stakeholder input for the new EU Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda for Food Systems.      This new report brings together feedback from stakeholders across the food-system landscape, including research and academia, public authorities, industry, farming organisations, NGOs, civil society and citizens. It is based on 631 survey responses and 63 written submissions gathered through an EU-wide consultation on the future of food-systems research and innovation.     The findings confirm that stakeholders value the systems-thinking approach introduced by Food 2030. They also point to opportunities for Food 2040 to further strengthen implementation, impact, deployment, and uptake of Research & Innovation results. Stakeholders highlighted several priorities for the future agenda, including resilience and preparedness, environmental and climate impacts, healthier diets, strategic autonomy, circularity, protein diversification, short supply chains and the scale-up of food-system innovation. Research partnerships with long-term impact 🤝 Strong collaborations can create lasting value for research, institutions, and the next generation of scientists. Through the JRC's Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships, universities and higher education institutions (HEIs) have the opportunity to establish long-term scientific collaborations based on jointly designed and supervised doctoral research projects. By bringing together expertise across institutions and disciplines, these partnerships strengthen links between science and policymaking while encouraging knowledge exchange and shared learning. How can migration research help Europe prepare for the future?  Migration is evolving rapidly, shaped by demographic change, technological innovation, climate change, and shifting labour market needs. These interconnected developments call for systemic and forward-looking research, closely linked to the major transitions shaping Europe’s future.  In this new report, we take stock of a decade of EU-funded migration research:  - €160.9 million invested through Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe   - 50+ collaborative projects advancing knowledge on migration, asylum and integration   - A strong research community connecting European and international partners  Built on extensive consultations with researchers, policymakers, civil society, international organisations and Horizon-funded projects, the report also identifies 8 key orientation areas for future research.    Thank you to all stakeholders and colleagues who participated in the various events organised throughout this process!     Read the report here: link.europa.eu/NcF3Vc  

Science helps turn Europe's energy ambitions into practical solutions. As the European Commission presents the Energy Package, scientific evidence plays an essential role in understanding how Europe can build an energy system that is cleaner and more affordable and resilient. At the Joint Research Centre (JRC), scientists analyse how today's energy systems operate, model future energy and industrial pathways, and assess emerging clean technologies to support the design and implementation of European energy policies. Together, this research provides the evidence needed to inform decisions on some of Europe's most complex energy challenges such as:   ⚡ Electrification: exploring how increasing the use of electricity across transport, industry and buildings can reduce emissions and strengthen Europe's energy independence.  🌱 Clean energy: focusing on the technologies and innovation needed to expand Europe's renewable energy production.  🔌 Grids and energy storage: examining how modern, interconnected electricity networks can integrate growing volumes of renewable energy while ensuring a secure and reliable supply. Today, the European Commission launched the 2026 Demography Report at a high-level event in Brussels, bringing together policymakers, researchers and international experts to discuss how demographic change is shaping Europe's future. The report was presented by Commissioner Dubravka Šuica, alongside institutional representatives and a technical panel exploring the implications of demographic change across Europe. The report analyses how demographic change is affecting areas such as employment, healthcare, long-term care, regional development and public finances, while highlighting the opportunities that come with longer, healthier lives. By providing robust scientific evidence, we help transform complex demographic trends into knowledge that supports evidence-based policymaking across the EU. The report also underpins the EU's policy response, helping Member States anticipate demographic change and develop solutions that support people at every stage of life.
