Operating at the heart of primary agriculture, SCAM brings extensive expertise in the collection and marketing of cereals, oilseeds and protein crops, alongside the provision of seeds, fertilisers, crop protection products and animal feed. The cooperative also plays a key role in agronomic advisory services, innovation programmes and farmer training, with a strong focus on soil health, conservation agriculture and input optimisation. "We don't call it regenerative agriculture. We call it risk management." 🌾    That sentiment surfaced repeatedly during the SAI Platform Annual Event 2026 in Saskatoon, Canada.    One of the most valuable aspects of the event was spending time with farmers in Saskatchewan and hearing how they think about regenerative agriculture. What stood out was how rarely they described their decisions in environmental terms.    They spoke about risk. In a region shaped by drought, weather volatility and short growing seasons, many regenerative practices are adopted not because they fit a sustainability framework, but because they help farms remain productive under difficult conditions. Resilience is not a corporate objective. It is a business necessity.    A few insights stood out:    • Resilience is the objective. Soil health, crop diversity and biological activity are viewed as ways to improve stability and reduce vulnerability to weather extremes.    • No-till is more sophisticated than it appears. It is often discussed as a single practice, but producers explained that successful no-till systems require specialised equipment, residue management, thoughtful crop rotations and years of adaptation.    • Diversity is a risk-management tool. Several speakers highlighted that resilient systems are dynamic. More diverse rotations help reduce pest pressure, improve soil function and strengthen long-term productivity.    • Farmers optimise for the whole system, not a single metric. A recurring theme from the panel discussions was that focusing on one outcome, whether carbon, yield or biodiversity, rarely leads to the best decisions. The most successful farms think holistically.    Perhaps the most useful takeaway for those working in sustainability is this:    When resilience creates business value, adoption follows.    The farmers we met were not waiting for perfect information or perfect incentives. Some of the most important outcomes of an annual event don't necessarily appear on the agenda.    As we reflect on the SAI Platform Annual Event 2026 in Saskatoon, one lesson stands out: meaningful progress often starts with conversations that were never planned.    Over three days, food and beverage companies, farmers, researchers, policymakers and sustainability professionals shared field visits, panel discussions and countless informal exchanges. The result was not just knowledge sharing, but a deeper understanding of the realities each part of the value chain faces.    A farmer explaining risk. A sustainability manager explaining compliance. A researcher connecting science with practice. Climate Resilience Platform (CRP) turns climate science into business-ready insights, so you can see risks to your agricultural supply in commercial terms and invest in adaptation with confidence. CRP is developed by the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, part of the CGIAR global research partnership. 🧑🌾 🐄 Last week, our Industry Solutions team came together to attend Groundswell Agriculture and join the farmers, researchers, businesses, policymakers, and practitioners who are shaping the future of regenerative agriculture.    💻 As a remote working team, the opportunity to come together in person after years of collaboration to develop the #RegeneratingTogether Programme was invaluable. Beyond reconnecting as a team, Groundswell offered a chance to learn directly from those working on the ground every day: farmers, livestock managers, innovators, and agricultural leaders.    Across the event, there was an incredible sense of energy, optimism, and purpose. Conversations centred on solutions, progress, and the many ways regenerative agriculture is being implemented across different landscapes and farming systems.    🌍 The programme highlighted examples from around the world and it was encouraging to see many of the themes that guide SAI Platform's work reflected throughout the event: collaboration, context-specific approaches, and recognising and rewarding farmers for the vital role they play in our food systems.    Several key messages stood out:  • Regenerative agriculture is no longer experimental; it is increasingly becoming a strategic framework for the future of agriculture and food systems.  • Healthy soil should be viewed as a leading indicator of productivity, resilience, biodiversity, and long-term farm profitability.  • "Feed the soil" remains a powerful principle: thriving soil ecosystems support healthier crops, improve resilience, and help address climate challenges.  • Farmer engagement is the cornerstone of successful transformation.  • Consumers are key stakeholders to accelerate the shift towards healthier and more sustainable food systems.  • Supply-chain collaboration is essential; transforming agriculture requires action across the entire value chain.  • Partnerships with public authorities and policymakers play a critical role in enabling long-term success.    🦋 We also saw exciting innovations in biodiversity monitoring, measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) technologies, microbial soil solutions, composting systems, and discussions around investment and scaling the transition.    Most importantly, Groundswell reinforced that we are part of a dynamic and rapidly evolving movement. The work being done across the regenerative agriculture community is relevant, impactful, and increasingly necessary.    Thank you to everyone who shared their knowledge, experiences, and passion throughout the event. Thank you to everyone who joined the SAI Platform Annual Event 2026 in Saskatoon, Canada 🇨🇦🌾 Over three days, members, farmers, researchers, food and beverage companies, and sustainability leaders came together to explore a shared challenge: how to scale regenerative agriculture in ways that are practical, profitable and resilient. Here are some highlights from our time in Saskatchewan: • Resilience as the North Star: From field visits to panel discussions, resilience emerged as a defining theme. Weather adversity is a local reality for Canadian farmers, reinforcing the need to build farming systems that are robust, adaptable and capable of delivering long-term productivity. • Keeping Farmers at the Centre: Perhaps the most powerful takeaway came from the conversations in the field. From farm tours to case studies it was clear that it is neither a lack of willingness nor understanding that creates the barriers to transition, but profitability. Discussions highlighted the importance of shared responsibilities, reciprocated value and practical support that allow farmers to adopt and scale regenerative practices with confidence. • From Field Learning to Collective Action: Participants saw first-hand how collaboration can accelerate progress. The #RegeneratingTogether Programme and other initiatives continue to provide a common framework while allowing flexibility to adapt solutions to local contexts. • Moving from Talk to Action: As sustainability expectations and regulatory requirements increase, members explored how aligned data, common methodologies and stronger partnerships can support implementation at scale. Sustainability is no longer a "nice to have"; it is business critical. • Context Before Practice: A recurring message throughout the event was that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to regenerative agriculture. Successful programmes start with understanding local conditions, farmer realities and regional priorities. What works in one geography may not work in another. Across all discussions, one message resonated clearly: the future of regenerative agriculture will be built through meaningful collaboration, active listening and solutions rooted in local context.
