The results indicated that counselor trainees' counseling skills change as they become more aware of themselves during multicultural group supervision.

Traditional human developmental theories such as those of Freud, Erikson, and Jung as well as eth... more Traditional human developmental theories such as those of Freud, Erikson, and Jung as well as ethnic/racial cultural identity development theories view identity development occurring in a linear and a stepwise progression. This view does not account for the complexity of a number of ethnic minorities identity development in the United States such as the Puerto Rican identity development. Therefore, this article explores the Puerto Rican ethnic identity using the concepts and principles of chaos theory. The article describes the Puerto Rican ethnic identity as liquid and complex. Clinical applications and implications for counseling are also suggested in the article.

This article provides group counselors a description of Ayeli, a culturally-based centering techn... more This article provides group counselors a description of Ayeli, a culturally-based centering technique rooted in Native American traditions. Ayeli is a process that allows participants an opportunity to experience and reflect on four crucial elements relevant to wellness from a Native American perspective: belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. Clients are encouraged to explore visually, introspectively, and interpersonally how they would like to find greater balance and harmony in their lives along these four dimensions essential for wellness. Ayeli is described as relational, helping group members to find the source of harmony with self, family, community, environment, and the spiritual world.
