Amazing session with our friends in Centre O.I.E. MINES Paris - PSL ! CalibSun is super proud to be represented in this sky-imaging community, with many cutting-edge real-world applications to come. Special thanks to Valentin B. for his amazing work on both the camera design and the organization of this workshop ✌ A good hardware setup is the key for every on-site data based solar energy modelling system.
We are very pleased to announce the successful completion of a do-it-yourself workshop on building your own low-cost fish-eye imager. Ten imagers were assembled, having a 180° field of view (see image). The workshop took place on June 16–18, 2026 at the Pierre Laffitte campus in Sophia Antipolis, organized by the SciDoSol Sponsorship Chair of the Centre O.I.E. MINES Paris - PSL of Mines Paris - PSL and in collaboration with the Energy&IT Group at the ICT of Technische Universität Wien. What started out as an internship for Valentin B. is now an autonomous device capturing all-sky images using readily available components. The workshop covered the basics of capturing all-sky images, the assembly of the imagers, geometric and radiometric calibrations, and finally applications. Applications include cloud detection and motion forecasting, solar irradiance incident on tilted surfaces, and other atmospheric and meteorological applications. All research work in the framework of SciDoSol is conducted with an open-science, open-data spirit. Therefore, the blueprints and do-it-yourself guides of the imager will very soon be openly published to the community. Special thanks to Valentin B., Yehia Eissa, Yves-Marie Saint-Drenan, Gabriel Chesnoiu, Raphael Jolivet, Guillaume Le Gall, Philippe Blanc, Susanne Weyand, Fiona Layes, Loïc Yezeguelian, Blaise Raybaud and Claudius Genz. SciDoSol is a Sponsorship Chair funded by TotalEnergies, Réseau de Transport d'Électricité, SOMFY Group, TSE, énergie de confiance, and CalibSun. CalibSun is presenting a scientific poster and conference talk at the 54th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (PVSC) in New Orleans this week ! Our team of #data scientists and #meteorology experts is proud to share two major scientific contributions presented by Thomas Carrière and Alexandre Boilley. We are tackling a crucial question that is often overlooked in scientific literature: What happens to solar forecast performance when data actually arrives late in real-time operations? 🔍 The Problem: The "Operational Lag" Gap Most academic backtests assume "Standard" evaluation conditions (where all input data is instantly available). But in real-world "Live" conditions, data lags are inevitable: - Numerical Weather Predictions (NWP) can lag by up to 6 hours. - Satellite imagery often faces delays of several minutes. Ignoring these lags leads to over-optimistic backtests. Our Two Contributions: 📄 The Poster (Scientific Session): We analyze how these real-time data delays affect PV forecasting and demonstrate why backtests must faithfully reproduce operational lags to remain meaningful and bankable. 🗨️ The Conference Talk: We dive much deeper to formalize standard vs. live evaluation protocols. We demonstrate how input lags degrade traditional benchmark models, and showcase the advanced lag-mitigation strategies powering CalibSun’s NEXT forecasting algorithm. At CalibSun, to maintain close-to-ideal performance even during data delays or partial source failures, our NEXT algorithm utilizes robust, state-of-the-art mitigation techniques, including Smart Blending of data inputs (including real-time, on-site data), an Analog Ensemble approach to handle missing context and fail-safe data handling. Therefore, we ensures continuous, high-accuracy forecasting under any conditions. 👋 Want to know more? Let’s talk solar forecasting! #Calibsun #IEEEPVSC #SolarForecasting #DataScience #Photovoltaic #NewOrleans

🇫🇷🤝🇺🇸 CalibSun at the French American Energy Networking – Houston Last night, our CEO Nicolas Thévenin had the honor of pitching CalibSun in front of 80+ energy industry leaders at the Résidence de France in Houston, as part of the Grow Global Booster 2026 program. A big thank you to Business France Green Shift - North America and Consulate General of France in Houston for this incredible opportunity to showcase French deeptech innovation in the heart of the US energy capital.
What a night in Houston. Proud to have represented CalibSun at the French American Energy Networking – Grow Global Booster 2026, hosted at the Résidence de France in Houston. Thank you to the Consulate General of France in Houston and to Business France Green Shift - North America for bringing together 80+ energy leaders in such a remarkable setting. The message I shared was simple: Solar has moved from "pay-as-produced" to full market exposure. Without accurate forecasts, you lose money — imbalance costs, grid penalties, missed trading opportunities. With CalibSun: +50% forecast accuracy improvement at 5 min, +35% at 15 min ~$500K net value per GW per year — validated in independent benchmarks. Forecasting is no longer a support function. It's a profit driver. Excited to be building CalibSun's presence in the US market. If you're a solar operator or IPP, let's talk. CalibSun #Photovoltaic #SolarForecasting

Weather #forecasts are something we all rely on daily. ☀️ 🌧️ But behind them lies an invisible infrastructure of millions of data points, complex equations, and some of the world’s most powerful supercomputers. From global models like GFS to regional simulations such as WRF, Numerical Weather Prediction (#NWP) is a constant balance between physics, data assimilation, and computational power. In this article, our expert team breaks down: – how NWP models are built – why they require massive computing power – where uncertainties come from – and how they are used for #energy applications Take a closer look at the hidden machinery behind your forecasts 👇 By Alexandre Boilley, Lead Meteorological Analyst at CalibSun.

From next month, the Deviation Settlement Mechanism (DSM) for solar producers in India becomes significantly stricter under the framework of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC)⚡ The deviation band tightens from ±10% to ±5%, and penalties will now apply from 5% deviation. In parallel, the penalties calculation evolves: they are no longer assessed on total installed capacity, but increasingly weighted on the actual available capacity injected. ▪️ This structural shift makes the financial impact more severe and non-linear. ▪️The same forecast error will generate higher penalties. Generic forecasting is no longer sufficient. Solar asset operators must move toward site-specific forecasting that leverages on-site measurements as a core input. At CalibSun, our forecasting architecture is built around in-situ data combined with advanced models to reduce deviation risk and contain penalty exposure.
