We were delighted to welcome representatives from the European Space Agency - ESA (ESA) and ATG Europe to our headquarters this week for a team meeting on the LISA project! 🌌🚀 Building on our ongoing work for this landmark mission to detect gravitational waves, the meeting focused on the next phases of development. ATG is designing the satellite’s central tube using their patented grid-stiffened architecture, and ÉireComposites will be manufacturing and assembling the structure at our 60,000 sq. ft facility. Two Irish founders. One Birmingham stage. The UK's Innovator of the Year. This week, LIOS, the Irish deep-tech company founded by Rhona Togher and Eimear O' Carroll, won Innovator of the Year at The Advanced Materials Show in Birmingham, with O'Carroll pitching their advanced acoustic material on stage at the show's Scale-Up Accelerator. The pair started the company in 2009 while still students in Ireland. Today Lios builds acoustic metamaterials, and its flagship SoundBounce material cuts harmful noise in automotive, aerospace and construction without adding weight or bulk. Why it matters: → 2009 start, European Inventor Award 2023, and now UK accelerator recognition in 2026 → In May, Lios renewed a contract with the European Space Agency valued at nearly €2 million, a relationship running since 2021 → Built at the technical edge, from Ireland, with no relocation required, having raised roughly $2.3 million in private funding Seventeen years of turning sound science into hardware, all from Ireland. They never moved. The recognition did. Huge congrats Rhona and Eimear 👏

The recent French National #BastilleDay reception at the Residence of France, kindly hosted by the Embassy of France in Ireland and attended by Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Enterprise Ireland staff Padraig Doolan Kevin Burke Murphy Michael Anna-Marie Turley among others provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the deep connections that unite France and Ireland and to connect with partners, businesses and friends who contribute to the growing ties between our two countries. As Ireland holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the event - including speeches by An Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Michel Barnier, Member of the French National Assembly, former Prime Minister of France and former EU Commissioner - highlighted the importance of European cooperation, shared values and continued collaboration in fostering innovation, trade and sustainable economic growth across the continent. We would like to thank Ambassador Céline P. and the Embassy team, including Expertise France Jean-Michel Portefaix for their warm hospitality and for bringing together such a distinguished gathering to mark this special occasion. From Earth observation and climate action, to Ariane 6 launcher video and telemetry systems, satellite communications, advanced manufacturing and space exploration, France and Ireland are working together to strengthen Europe's #Space capabilities and create new opportunities for innovation, research and industry. More than 300 food and drink companies, researchers and industry partners gathered in Croke Park last month for Enterprise Ireland’s fourth annual Food Innovation Summit, the State’s only dedicated event focused on innovation in the sector. The summit followed another year of growth for the sector, with food, drink, nutrition and climate tech exports reaching €16.98 billion, up 5 per cent on 2024. Despite that growth, the summit came at a demanding time for the industry, says Enterprise Ireland senior client adviser Ellen N.. "The companies that keep investing in R&D and innovation and their people throughout this time are going to come out strongest." A new feature of this year’s summit was the Discovery Zone. Running alongside the main programme, the interactive space gave companies a hands-on introduction to the supports available to begin and sustain their innovation journey. Featured speakers, such as Kerry, also demonstrated the application of AI to the industry and the importance of continuous investment in people and skills. A pleasure to welcome Dr. Norah Patten to my office in the Department of Enterprise today. Next year, Norah will make history as the first Irish person to travel to space, joining the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences on a research mission aboard Virgin Galactic’s Delta spacecraft.
