Humanitarian Aid International (HAI) convened a focused panel discussion at Delhi Climate Innovation Week, hosted at TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI SAS), bringing together practitioners, policy voices and philanthropy leaders to examine the shift from #AidToAgency in climate resilience. We extend our sincere thanks to our moderator Mr Rajeev Jha and to our speakers — Ms Tarini Ross, Dr. Sanjay Vashist, Mr Shilp Verma, Ms Tejashree Thatte, and Mr Vikas Kataria — for their candid and substantive contributions. The discussion reinforced that building a resilience-oriented ecosystem requires mindset shifts across communities, civil society, CSR boards, and policymakers alike. Key highlights from the session: 👉 Communities are first responders and long-term custodians of resilience. 👉 National Adaptation and Disaster Management frameworks must translate into hyper-local action — with ward- and Gram Panchayat-level planning, bottom-up inputs, and institutionalised social audits. 👉 Long-term resilience thinking means embedding resilience within broader organisational and sectoral systems rather than treating it as a stand-alone intervention. 👉 With intensifying climate risks, including water stress and multi-hazard vulnerabilities, prevention and preparedness must move to the centre of research, funding, policy, and institutional design. For 25 years, the IWMI-Tata Water Policy Programme (ITP) has translated science into policy and practice through a co-equal partnership between the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the Tata Trusts. Together, they have worked to strengthen the foundations of India’s water ecosystem by anchoring decisions in evidence, collaboration, and long-term commitment. ITP brings together scientific expertise, field-based action, and policy engagement to strengthen India’s water related agriculture, energy and livelihoods ecosystem. Working closely with grassroots organisations, the programme strengthens efforts in some of India’s water-stressed rural regions. Learnings from these on-ground engagements have informed state and national policy and programme design, while sustained collaboration in helping shape large-scale initiatives and public policy. ITP is playing a leading role in addressing a critical contemporary challenge—by building knowledge, enabling collaboration, and turning evidence into action.
