Many researchers tried to develop further cost and energy efficient computing devices and algorithms for WSN but the most challenging is to fit the security of WSN into that strained environment. However, security is crucial to the success of applying WSN. So it becomes essential to be familiar with the security aspects of WSN before designing WSN system. When sensor networks are deployed in an aggressive terrain, security becomes extremely important, as they are prone to different types of despite attacks. The intent of this paper is to investigate security problems and various security requirements. We identify the attacks at all the layers of WSN network architecture and also tried to find their possible solution.

Indoor radon studies have been carried out in some dwellings of Bathinda district, Punjab, India ... more Indoor radon studies have been carried out in some dwellings of Bathinda district, Punjab, India using LR-115 type II plastic track detectors in the bare mode. The study has been undertaken for the purpose of health risk assessments. The annual average indoor radon activity in dwellings varies from 95 ± 24 to 202 ± 90 Bq m −3 . In about 15% of the dwellings the indoor radon values lie in the range of the action level (200-600 Bq m −3 ) recommended by the International Corporation on Radiological Protection (Ann. ICRP 23 ). The annual effective dose varies from 1.63 to 3.45 mSv y −1 with the geometric mean value of 2.57 mSv y −1 . The seasonal variations of indoor radon reveal the maximum values in winter and minimum in summer. The radium content, radon exhalation rate and the concentration of soil radon are measured using the Can Technique. The fission track etch technique is used for the estimation of uranium in soil. The uranium and radium concentration in soil varies from 0.54 to 3.68 mg kg −1 and 5.70 to 25.45 Bq kg −1 , respectively. The radon exhalation rate in these samples varies from 246.63 to 1100.00 mBq m −2 h −1 (7.17 to 31.98 mBq kg −1 h −1 ). A positive correlation has been observed between uranium concentration and radon exhalation rate in soil.

ABSTRACT SrGe2 and BaGe2 were characterized for structural, electronic and optical properties by ... more ABSTRACT SrGe2 and BaGe2 were characterized for structural, electronic and optical properties by means of diffuse reflectance and first-principles density functional theory. These two germanides crystallize in the BaSi2-type structure, in which Ge atoms are arranged in tetrahedral configuration. The calculation indicates a charge transfer from Sr (or Ba) atoms to Ge atoms along with the formation of covalent bonds among Ge atoms in Ge tetrahedral. The computational results confirm that these two germanies are Zintl phase described as Sr2Ge4 (or Ba2Ge4), which are characterized by positively charged [Sr2 (or Ba2)]2.59+ and negatively charged [Ge4]2.59− units acting as cation and anion, respectively. These compounds are indirect gap semiconductors with band gap estimated to be Eg = 1.02 eV for BaGe2 and Eg = 0.89 eV for SrGe2 which are in good agreement with our experimental measured values (Eg = 0.97 eV for BaGe2 and Eg = 0.82 eV for SrGe2). Our calculations demonstrate that the band gaps are narrowed by application of hydrostatic pressure; the pressure coefficients are estimated to be −10.54 for SrGe2 and −10.06 meV/GPa for BaGe2. Optical properties reveal that these compounds have large absorption coefficient (∼7.5 × 104 cm−1 at 1.5 eV) and the estimated high frequency (static) dielectric constant are, ε∞(ε0) ≈ 12.8(20.97) for BaGe2 and ε∞(ε0) ≈ 14.27(22.87) for SrGe2.

Trace level determination of U, Zn, Cd, Pb and Cu in drinking water samples

The concentration of uranium has been assessed in drinking water samples collected from different... more The concentration of uranium has been assessed in drinking water samples collected from different locations in Bathinda district, Punjab, India. The water samples are taken from hand pumps and tube wells. Uranium is determined using fission track technique. Uranium concentration in the water samples varies from 2.23 ± 0.05 to 87.05 ± 0.29 µg/L. These values are compared with safe limit values recommended for drinking water. The uranium concentration in almost all drinking water samples is found to be more than the safe limit. Analysis of some heavy metals viz. Zn, Cd, Pb and Cu in water is made. The concentration of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chlorine and total hardness along with the pH value and conductivity of the water samples are measured. Some of the samples show stunningly high values of these parameters.

In this paper the authors present a genetic algorithm (GA) based approach to find the minimal set... more In this paper the authors present a genetic algorithm (GA) based approach to find the minimal set of Test vectors to find all the possible stuck at faults and delay faults in a digital circuit. A genetic algorithm has been used which search for minimum number of vector set with high detection capability from a large solution space. The possible number of interconnections and hence the number of faults is having an approximately exponential relationship with the number of primary inputs and circuit nodes. All the faults which have been originated because of process defects or circuit delays which may either lead to permanent connection of circuit nodes to power supply rails or can cause the output to be slowly rising or falling. Such faults must be identified before the chip is fully packaged to prevent the malfunctioning of a system.

A hollow optical waveguide is proposed in which light can be confined in an air gap between a dis... more A hollow optical waveguide is proposed in which light can be confined in an air gap between a distributed Bragg reflecting (DBR) mirror and a high-index-contrast grating (HCG) mirror. Because of the combined effect of vertical (DBR) and lateral (HCG) periodicity, the proposed hollow waveguide shows a small modal birefringence on the order of 10 À4 . In addition, a patterned HCG is shown to provide 2-D optical confinement, which is an important requirement for practical compact photonic devices. The proposed hollow waveguide is fabricated, and a low birefringence of 5 Â 10 À4 is demonstrated experimentally.

This report compares the performance of MANET routing protocol such as Ad-hoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV), Location-Aided Routing (LAR1) and Wireless Routing Protocol (WRP) protocol at different Simulation time using a parallel discrete event driven simulator, Glomosim. This project is based on energy consumption, signal received and forwarded to MAC and signals transmitted in mobile ad hoc networks. The performance differentials are analyzed using varying simulation time. Based on the observations, I make recommendations about when the performance of either protocol can be the best.
