In this paper, a novel swarm optimization approach, namely sparrow search algorithm (SSA), is pro... more In this paper, a novel swarm optimization approach, namely sparrow search algorithm (SSA), is proposed inspired by the group wisdom, foraging and anti-predation behaviours of sparrows. Experiments on 19 benchmark functions are conducted to test the performance of the SSA and its performance is compared with other algorithms such as grey wolf optimizer (GWO), gravitational search algorithm (GSA), and particle swarm optimization (PSO). Simulation results show that the proposed SSA is superior over GWO, PSO and GSA in terms of accuracy, convergence speed, stability and robustness. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed SSA is demonstrated in two practical engineering examples.

Earthing (also known as grounding) refers to the discovery that bodily contact with the Earth's n... more Earthing (also known as grounding) refers to the discovery that bodily contact with the Earth's natural electric charge stabilizes the physiology at the deepest levels, reduces inflammation, pain, and stress, improves blood flow, energy, and sleep, and generates greater well-being. Such effects are profound, systemic, and foundational, and often develop rapidly. Earthing is as simple as routinely walking barefoot outdoors and/or using inexpensive grounding systems indoors while sleeping or sitting, practices that restore a lost and needed electric connection with the Earth. Some 20 studies to date have reported intriguing evidence of wide and significant physiological improvements when the body is grounded vs. non-grounded. The research, along with numerous anecdotal reports, demonstrates that Earthing clearly deserves inclusion in the clinical practice of preventive, alternative, and lifestyle medicine and has great potential to render these approaches more effective.

Surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms have been developed mainly for solving expensive optim... more Surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms have been developed mainly for solving expensive optimization problems where only a small number of real fitness evaluations are allowed. Most existing surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms are designed for solving low-dimensional single or multiobjective optimization problems, which are not well suited for many-objective optimization. This paper proposes a surrogateassisted many-objective evolutionary algorithm that uses an artificial neural network to predict the dominance relationship between candidate solutions and reference solutions instead of approximating the objective values separately. The uncertainty information in prediction is taken into account together with the dominance relationship to select promising solutions to be evaluated using the real objective functions. Our simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art evolutionary algorithms on a set of manyobjective optimization test problems.

The sewage under the influence of Eichhornia & Pistia species for twenty days shows a significant change in the concentration of impurities. The change was observed by Physico-chemical, Nutrients, Microbial Factors & Solid analysis with different interval of days. The percentage of nutrients and other parameters absorbed by Eichhornia was better than Pistia. The level of impurities was reduced by the remarkable amount by activated charcoal & alum treatment. We introduce an investigation that aims to evaluate the influence of the practice of regular phys... more We introduce an investigation that aims to evaluate the influence of the practice of regular physical activity in the adoption of healthy lifestyles and psychological well-being, in a sample of 183 students of the University of the Algarve, 94 regular physical activity practitioners and 89 who don´t. For the collection of data was applied a battery of instruments consisting of a Demographic Questionnaire and Physical Activity; by the Lifestyle Questionnaire (Carvalho & Cruz, 2006) and the Ryff's Scales of Psychological Well-being (Fernandes, 2007). Our results show that the subjects who practice regular physical activity adopt healthier lifestyles, as well as provide superior results in environmental mastery dimension in the psychological well-being. The analysis of the interaction between the values of the lifestyle, organized into three levels, and the psychological well-being, reveals that participants with higher scores present superior rates of psychological well-being, globally and in dimensions (environmental mastery, purpose in life and self-acceptance).

This toolbox is built upon a hierarchical epidemiological model in which two observed time series of daily proportions of infected and removed cases are emitted from the underlying infection dynamics governed by a Markov SIR infectious disease process. We extend the SIR model to incorporate various types of time-varying quarantine protocols, including government-level macro isolation policies and community-level micro inspection measures. We develop a calibration procedure for under-reported infected cases. This paper presents new approach for time series data classification using Fuzzy Expert System (F... more This paper presents new approach for time series data classification using Fuzzy Expert System (FES). In the proposed study, the power disturbance signals are considered as time series data for testing the designed FES. Initially the time series data are pre-processed through the advanced signal processing tool such as S-transform and various statistical features are extracted, which are used as inputs to the FES. The FES output is optimized i1sing Particle Swann Optimization (PSO) to bring the output to distinct classification level. Both Gaussian and trapezoidal membership functions are selected for designing the proposed FES arid the performance measure is derived by comparing the classification rates for the time series data without noise and with noise up to SNR 20 db. The proposed algorithm provides accurate classification rates even under noisy conditions compared to the existing techniques, which shows the efficacy and robustness of the proposed algorithm for time series data classification.

For a WSN, Topology Control is crucial to obtain an energy efficient network without affecting the connectivity and other properties. In this paper the sequence of strategies carried out to obtain a better scheme for a topology control in terms of energy is discussed. The results showed the effectiveness of the different approaches proposed. Comparison on one tier architecture and two tier architecture using the proposed methodology is also made. The future works discussed also gives a wider vision on the probabilities of the various schemas for the forthcoming years.

This study develops a Virtual Optimizer for Aerial Routes (VOAR) as a new photogrammetric mapping tool for acquisition of images to be used in 3D reconstruction. 3D point cloud models provide detailed information on infrastructure from places where human access may be difficult. In this paper Grey-Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm is implemented in optimal tuning of Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) controller with Integral Time Absolute Error (ITAE) based fitness function. The performance of this system is tested under different market conditions like Poolco, Bilateral and contract violation scenarios. Here we consider Distribution company (DISCO) Participation Matrix (DPM) and Area Participation Matrix (APM) in order to incorporate the market dynamics. Also Generation Rate Constraints (GRC) and external load disturbances are also taken into account. The analysis and simulations is carried out in interconnected two-area deregulated power system and the effectiveness is compared with Genetic Algorithm (GA) tuned PID controller. The comparative results are presented which shows the superiority of proposed GWO algorithm.

This article starts by formally deriving the evolutionary dynamics of ant colony optimization, an important swarm intelligence algorithm. Ants of the artificial colony are able to generate successively shorter feasible path by using information accumulated in the form of a pheromone trail. Dorigo. The techniques were inspired by the foraging behavior of real ants in the nature. The focus of ant algorithms is to find approximate optimized problem solutions using artificial ants and their indirect decentralized communications using synthetic pheromones. In this paper, at first ant algorithms are described in details, then transforms to computational optimization techniques: the ACO metaheuristics and developed ACO algorithms. A comparative study of ant algorithms also carried out, followed by past and present trends in AAs applications. Future prospect in AAs also covered in this paper. Finally a comparison between AAs with well-established machine learning techniques were focused, so that combining with machine learning techniques hybrid, robust, novel algorithms could be produces for outstanding result in future.

The goal of the proposal is to provide low overhead in the communication among sensor nodes, while allocating the mobile sensors to perform sensing activities requested by the static ones. Simulations have shown that the strategy is efficient in maintaining low overhead and achieving the desired coordination.

The Android Mobile Phone Platform becomes more and more popular among software developers, because of its powerful capabilities and open architecture. It is a fantastic platform for the real world interface control, as it offers an ample of resources and already incorporates a lot of sensors. No need to write programming codes to develop apps in the App Inventor, instead it provides visual design interface as the way the apps looks and use blocks of interlocking components to control the app's behaviour. The App Inventor aims to make programming enjoyable and accessible to novices.
