    📱 Apple just extended its RF deal with Broadcom through 2031. But is $30 billion only about RF front-end (RFFE)? Broadcom's new long-term agreement with Apple, worth more than $30 billion through 2031, was framed as an RF and connectivity commitment. And on the RF side, the story is clear: 🔹 Apple insourced Wi-Fi/Bluetooth with its N1 chip in 2025. 🔹 But the cellular RF front-end stays with Broadcom, where device requirements only harden as 6G pushes into the upper mid-band. 🔹 Broadcom holds about 40% of the cellular RFFE value inside the iPhone, a share no other supplier holds at any single OEM, for any customer. As Hassan Saleh, PhD, Yole Group, puts it: 💬 "Losing the Wi-Fi SoC to Apple's own silicon isn't the story here. What matters is that Broadcom keeps the harder half: the cellular RF front-end... That's not a business you enter easily, and Apple just signaled it doesn't want to try."   🔀 The deal also lands right as Broadcom's two closest RF rivals at Apple, Skyworks and Qorvo, merge into about $22 billion competitor. Six years of commitment is Apple's answer. 🤖 But the RF story may not be the whole story. Our experts also flag a six-year horizon that lines up strikingly well with Apple's rumored AI ASIC ambitions, a signal that could stretch this partnership well beyond the front-end, and into the data center. As Adrien Sanchez at Yole Group, notes: 💬 "Every hyperscaler that wanted control over its AI roadmap ended up building its own silicon, and for many, Broadcom was the partner of choice.     Smaller & brighter: how Samsung is redesigning the periscope camera At Yole Group, we have been tracking the redesign of periscope module across the latest Galaxy S26 Ultra from Samsung, and the trend is clear: fewer lenses, smaller footprint, brighter images. 💡Samsung's All Lenses on Prism (ALoP) architecture, honored with a CES 2025 Innovation Award, places the lens barrel directly on top of the prism instead of between the prism and sensor. The result: improve brightness and reduce noise while decreasing the module shoulder length. 💬Meziane Saidani, Yole Group: “Our latest Camera Module & CIS Comparison - Samsung report confirms the shift to AloP architecture.     ⚡ $50 million grabbed the headlines. The real story is 4x. Coherent Corp. just announced a CHIPS Act letter of intent for its Sherman, Texas fab, with Jensen Huang on stage. Easy to read it as a jobs-and-onshoring story. It is not. 🔹 The expansion will quadruple wafer capacity for 6-inch InP. 🔹 InP is the substrate behind every laser, modulator, and photodetector inside today's AI optical transceivers, and silicon cannot do the job. 🔹 The 1.6T ramp is expected to double module volume 3x in the next 4 quarters, and that curve depends on InP keeping pace. 🔹 Even in a co-packaged optics future, the laser still has to come from somewhere, increasingly, a 6-inch InP fab. The signal is not the funding. It is that the industry's biggest InP producer is moving to remove what may be the next bottleneck in the AI optical roadmap.
