The ACRE Africa team undertakes risk assessment, product development and risk monitoring to facilitate access to insurance products for smallholders. With tailored micro-insurance products, farmers can confidently invest in quality inputs, increase their productivity and access agricultural loans.

  • 𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐙 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐢-𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐨 2026! Our team in Tanzania attended the Tri-Nations Livestock Expo 2026, held in Chalinze, Ubena Zomozi, Tanzania, under the theme: "𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘙𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘬 𝘌𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦, 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴." We were honored to participate alongside our partner, Newtan Insurance limited, engaging directly with livestock farmers and stakeholders on how insurance plays a key role in protecting herds, safeguarding livelihoods, and giving farmers the confidence to invest in livestock farming. The conversations our team engaged in showed real demand for livestock insurance and financial inclusion solutions. People want insurance that actually works and addresses the real realities they face. Here's to more partnerships, more innovation, and a stronger, more resilient livestock sector across the region! #LivestockResilience #AgriInsurance #RegionalTrade #AgricultureInnovation

In Part 1, we introduced you to the Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) Insurance; a #parametric product that uses satellite NDVI data to predict when drought will push wildlife out of shrinking habitats and into farms and villages. Today, we share more on where we are piloting this product, the partnerships propelling it, and some of the early results and impact of the programme. The programme sits within a much bigger effort by Humanity Insured; one already protecting over 2 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 across 16 countries, to ensure that climate risk protection addresses the realities faced by communities. Swipe through to see how this is playing out in Kafue, Zambia, and follow along as we scale climate-risk thinking to new frontiers. #ParametricInsurance #HumanWildlifeConflict #ClimateResilience #ACREAfrica AB Entheos Ltd, SWAN Insurance Zambia, The Nature Conservancy, Department of National Parks & Wildlife, Sustainable Finance Coalition, @Game Rangers International, Faith Isika, Farid Keya, KAINGU KAMBI, Barbara Chesire, Stella Kimani, Sharon Kimani

  • 𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚'𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 Just 4% of private-sector loans in Sub-Saharan Africa go to agriculture despite the sector employing 53% of the region's workforce and driving 25% of GDP. The reason isn't lack of will. It's risk. Lenders have historically faced three barriers: 𝘧𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘯𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳, 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘱𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘺𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘬 𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦. ACRE Africa has designed a tool that closes that gap. Through TARA (Tool for Agricultural Risk Assessment), an AI-powered risk assessment and advisory architecture that gives financial institutions the data-driven insight to lend with confidence. This enables; ✅ Climate risk scoring and yield analytics that turn uncertainty into data lenders can act on. ✅ Digital and AI-powered advisories, monitored through our DigiBima platform, already active across 6 countries. ✅ Capacity-building support, equipping financial institutions to assess agricultural risk consistently, at scale. The result: credit that farmers can access, and risk that lenders can actually price. Studies show credit-driven access to quality inputs alone can lift yields by up to 60–70%. Farmers want credit. Lenders need the right intelligence to give it to them. That's what we're building! Players in the different markets, including lenders in Zambia, are already finding TARA tool intelligence useful and timely! #AgriFinance #FinancialInclusion #Innovation #TARA #ACREAfrica Chewe Kaminsa DipCII, Vincent Mwendwa, Farid Keya, Ewan Wheeler, NATSAVE, Milimo Haazele, Lina Rachel Ngige, Agora Microfinance Zambia (AMZ), Zambia National Commercial Bank (Zanaco) PLC, Aceli Africa, Grameen Credit Agricole, CGAP, CIS Kenya

  • What if the biggest barrier to financing African agriculture isn't capital, but unmanaged risk? At ACRE Africa, we work with #governments, #financial institutions, #insurers, and #development partners to de-risk agriculture through climate risk insurance, digital innovation, and data-driven solutions that strengthen farmers' resilience and improve access to finance. These efforts have supported more than 540,000 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐧𝐬 and protected over 𝐔𝐒$400 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 in agricultural lending across six African countries, demonstrating that managing risk is key to unlocking investment at scale. The evidence is clear: when agricultural risk is managed, investment follows. This was a key theme during a UNDP co-hosted side event on de-risking Africa's food systems, where leaders from Kenya's DRIVE Programme, FSD Kenya, ACRE Africa, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the CGIAR Hub for Sustainable Finance (ImpactSF) explored practical ways to unlock finance by reducing risk. • 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. As agriculture evolves, so do the opportunities to make lending decisions using richer, more reliable data. Today, the conversation is shifting from asking "What assets does the farmer own?" to "What does the evidence tell us about the farmer's ability to succeed?" 1. What can production data reveal about a farmer's performance? 2. How does climate and weather information improve the understanding of risk? 3. What do insurance records, market linkages, and repayment behaviour tell us about resilience and creditworthiness? These questions help financial institutions move beyond traditional lending models and design financial products that reflect agricultural realities. Credit facilities align with farmers' seasonal cash flows, and repayment schedules are structured to match production cycles; thus, making finance more accessible to smallholder farmers. As the agricultural finance ecosystem continues to evolve, what additional data or risk insights should shape responsible lending to Africa's farmers? #FINAS2026 #ACREAfrica #FinancialInclusion #Data #ClimateResilience

  • How do we unlock more sustainable financial inclusion in agriculture? That was the focus of ACRE Africa's contribution at #FINAS2026. During the CIS Kenya session which explored how collaboration across the financial ecosystem can strengthen agricultural lending, Farid Keya, our Chief Business and Principal Officer, demonstrated how agricultural insurance data can complement credit information to improve agricultural risk assessment, support better lending decisions, and build resilience against climate-related shocks. As Farid aptly put it: "𝘍𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦. 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘥. 𝘙𝘪𝘴𝘬 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦." The discussions with Adah Mukubi MPRS(K), Clifford Odhiambo, Samuel Tiriongo (PhD), Yvonne Mumiah and Gideon Kipyakwai also underscored the importance of data in strengthening lending decisions. Through ACRE Africa's Tool for Agricultural Risk Assessment (TARA), lenders can access climate risk intelligence, including rainfall variability, crop suitability indices, historical yield trends. These insights help financial institutions better assess agricultural risk, design appropriate financial products, and lend with greater confidence. When risk is understood and managed, farmers gain better access to finance, lenders make better decisions, and agriculture becomes a more resilient and an investable sector. #FINAS2026 #FinancialInclusion #RiskManagement #ClimateResilience #DataAnalytics #ACREAfrica

  • Our participation in #FINAS2026 could not have come at a better time! The event marked the launch of 𝑲𝒆𝒏𝒚𝒂'𝒔 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑨𝒈𝒓𝒊-𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑺𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒔 𝑰𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏 (𝑵𝑨𝑺𝑰𝑷), a roadmap to transform the country's agri-food system through increased public and private investment. Our message is clear: 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝. Financial inclusion is not just about expanding access to credit. It is about 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝. As the Kenya Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development implements #NASIP, the opportunity is clear. We must move beyond financing agriculture to financing resilient agriculture. ACRE Africa is ready to support this vision by embedding climate and agricultural risk management into financial services through digital innovation, data analytics, and strategic partnerships. If you are looking to strengthen agricultural finance through effective risk management and digital innovation, let's connect and explore how we can partner to accelerate Kenya's agri-food transformation. #FinancialInclusion #ClimateResilience #RiskManagement #Partnerships #ACREAfrica
