A couple of weeks ago, Thomas Evans and I attended the Newman College Futures Fair representing RICS Matrics UK, London & South East to help support young people by providing them with an insight into the wide range of careers available within the property industry. We hosted a stand where we spoke with students one-to-one about their future careers, discussing the different routes into real estate and the ongoing debate between university and apprenticeship pathways. In addition to running the stand, we delivered two workshops which allowed us to play an interactive valuation game and dive deeper into the profession. It was great to see how engaged the students were, asking questions and actively contributing throughout. One thing that stood out to me was how surprised many students were by the variety of careers within real estate beyond residential estate agency. I hope we helped broaden their understanding of the profession and the exciting opportunities it offers. A huge thank you to Newman College for hosting such a valuable event. This week was my favourite calendar appointment of the year, the SHW Property Volleyball Tournament. Last week, I had the privilege of stepping away from the office for a couple of hours to join the BBP Urban Nature Walk at the King's Cross Estate. It was fascinating to see the biodiversity strategies implemented across the estate and to learn how different species are thriving in the habitats that have been carefully created for them. Although it was 28°C, we all know the London sun is a little different, and the shade provided by the many trees made it a wonderful walk. The estate's commitment to sustainability and climate resilience is truly impressive. Around 40% of the 67-acre development has been dedicated to open spaces, creating healthier environments and improving wellbeing for workers, visitors, residents, and the wider community. From green roofs and wildflower meadows to bird boxes and AI-powered technology that monitors pollinators, every feature demonstrated how thoughtful design can support nature in the heart of a city. It was also a great opportunity to expand my English vocabulary with so many new biodiversity terms! One takeaway really stayed with me: biodiversity isn't just about flowers, trees, and wildlife; it is also about people. Creating these spaces is only the beginning; maintaining them and ensuring they continue to thrive requires long-term commitment, collaboration, and care. A big thank you to everyone involved in organising such an insightful and inspiring walk.
