Last week at Cambridge Wireless #CWTEC2026, CEO Mark Rushworth spoke on why thin-film lithium niobate is becoming a material to watch in high-speed datacoms. While silicon is the universal material for electronics, photonics has no such universal material. Different jobs call for different materials, and no single platform does everything well. That is what makes TFLN interesting. It combines fast electro-optic modulation, strong nonlinear behaviour, and low optical loss in one material, a rare mix. At Finchetto, we are putting the nonlinear side of TFLN to work in switching. Our fully optical packet switch routes light with light, with none of the conversion to electronics that sits between every hop in a conventional network.
