Last week at Cambridge Wireless #CWTEC2026, CEO Mark Rushworth spoke on why thin-film lithium niobate is becoming a material to watch in high-speed datacoms. While silicon is the universal material for electronics, photonics has no such universal material. Different jobs call for different materials, and no single platform does everything well. That is what makes TFLN interesting. It combines fast electro-optic modulation, strong nonlinear behaviour, and low optical loss in one material, a rare mix. At Finchetto, we are putting the nonlinear side of TFLN to work in switching. Our fully optical packet switch routes light with light, with none of the conversion to electronics that sits between every hop in a conventional network.  For the AI and HPC networks now challenged by latency and power constraints, that is the difference between a switch that accelerates compute and one that holds everything else back. #photonics #datacoms #ai #TFLN Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult

I had a great audience for my Reusable and Secure IP for FPGA talk at Verification Futures in Reading. It was an excellent track to be part of alongside Yassine Eben Aimine, Gavin Lofts, and rojalin mishra. In the session, I explored key aspects of building secure, reusable FPGA IP, including: • Secure‑by‑design hardware for latency‑critical FPGA systems • IP‑XACT (IEEE 1685) for portable, auditable IP integration at scale • RTL encryption (IEEE 1735 v2) to protect proprietary IP across multi‑vendor flows • Post‑quantum cryptography and its architectural/performance trade‑offs for FPGAs • Hardware roots of trust and hardware‑based authentication/authorization I also shared insights from real-world case studies: – AlphaData & NASA‑JPL AVIRIS‑3 – STFC scientific data acquisition system 👉 Are you facing challenges when designing or distributing FPGA IP? Think Secure-by-Design from the outset, learn more about how we address these challenges with ChevinID : https://lnkd.in/eM3EuVXB Great discussions and thoughtful questions throughout — thanks to everyone who joined!

  • Xen Quantum are out of stealth mode at last. Take a look at what they're doing, and why the industry is so excited about what they're delivering for digital infrastructure security.

Today we’re launching Xen Quantum - and starting to share our work publicly as we go. Advances in quantum computing and cryptanalysis are threatening the foundations of today’s digital infrastructure - much of the encryption protecting our data won’t survive a cryptographically relevant quantum computer. Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) offers something no software-based method can: unconditional, future-proof confidentiality for data in transit guaranteed by the laws of physics, not by assumptions about an attacker’s knowledge or computing power. But existing QKD systems are hard to deploy and manufacture at scale. At Xen, we’re building chip-based QKD hardware designed from day one to be practical and mass-manufacturable - using the same silicon photonics the semiconductor industry already relies on. We’re an early-stage team, spinning out from Wave Photonics, and backed by Cambridge Enterprise, Parkwalk, QAI Ventures, Silicon Catalyst.UK and Berkeley SkyDeck. If you’re working on quantum-safe security, silicon photonics, or just want to follow along - follow us. More to come soon! #QuantumKeyDistribution #QKD #SiliconPhotonics #QuantumSecurity #DeepTech

Today, we welcomed Silicon Catalyst.UK, Sean Redmond and members of the UK startup, investment and technology community to our Cambridge office for a discussion about the future of semiconductor innovation. AI is creating unprecedented demand for innovation across: ☁️ Cloud AI 💻 Edge AI 🤖 Physical AI Meeting that demand requires advances in processing, power and connectivity—and collaboration across the wider ecosystem. By bringing together startups, investors, developers and industry experts, we're helping accelerate the next generation of UK innovation. It was great to hear from Andrew Howard, VP Partner Success & Licensing, as he explored the role ecosystems play in enabling innovators, and to be joined by Arm co-founders Pete Harrod and Jamie Urquhart, who are part of the Silicon Catalyst advisor network and continue to support the next generation of UK startups. Following welcomes from Glenn Charter and Sean Redmond and a keynote from Arm’s Andrew Howard on the importance of ecosystem and innovation, Andy McLean introduced the UK Semiconductor Centre today at "ChipStart UK: Semiconductor startups @ Cambridge – Investing in the Future", hosted at Arm in Cambridge. Russell Haggar of Silicon Catalyst.UK then introduced ChipStart UK and the latest cohort companies: ABACQuS, Altro Photonics, Analogue Opto, Atlas Processing, Nibras Communications, Qascade, RobQuant, Skoosh and TrackStar. What stands out is not just the range of innovation across the companies, but the shape of the ecosystem around them: established technology companies, startups, investors, experienced founders, accelerators and sector bodies, all in the same room. The UK does not lack semiconductor ideas. The harder task is helping more of them become investable, scalable companies with access to the right customers, infrastructure, talent and international partners. That is why events like this matter. They are not just showcases. They are part of the connective tissue the sector needs. Looking forward to the founder journey session with Giorgia Longobardi of Cambridge GaN Devices Ltd and the semiconductor investor panel chaired by Martin O'Sullivan. #Semiconductors #Startups #Investment #Cambridge #UKSemiconductors
