Knovia welcomes the latest government announcements on co-investment for apprenticeships. Following tireless lobbying from AELP, The St Martin's Group, Independent Training Providers, employer groups and the wider skills sector, the proposed increase in employer co-investment for all levy-paying employers who have exhausted their levy funds has been partially revised. The planned 25% co-investment requirement has been scrapped for apprentices aged 19–24. This means that levy-paying employers who have used all their levy funds will be able to access fully funded apprenticeship training for employees aged 19–24, removing the need for any employer co-investment contribution. For apprentices aged 25 and over, however, the changes will still go ahead. Employer co-investment will increase from 5% to 25% for apprenticeship starts from August 2026 onwards. At a Glance Ages 19–24, 100% government-funded training, no employer co-investment required, greater support for early-career talent Ages 25+, employer co-investment increases from 5% to 25% Applies to apprenticeship starts from August 2026. This is a significant shift in apprenticeship funding policy. #Employers - apprenticeship training for 16-24 year olds will be fully funded from 1 August 2026! Once you've exhausted your apprenticeship levy, the government will pay for any remaining training and assessment costs for apprentices aged under 25.
