🎙️ On BBC Radio 4, a British farmer explains how soaring fertiliser costs, rising production expenses, and extreme heat and drought are making it harder and harder to break even. And the same applies far beyond the UK. Whether it's wheat, coffee, cocoa or bananas, producers can't protect their farms from the impacts of climate change, if they're paid less than it costs to grow their crops. A fairer price isn't just about protecting livelihoods. It's about making our food system fit for a changing climate. #BBCRadio4 #ClimateCrisis #Farmers #Food #ClimateChange

We all want to know that foods like coffee will still be around in the future. But that starts with the people who grow them. Farmers are already dealing with the effects of climate change. Yet many aren't paid enough to make the changes needed to protect their farms from things like droughts, floods and extreme weather. At the same time, they're expected to cope with rising costs and uncertain crop prices, while receiving only a small share of the money their crops make. If farmers can't afford to prepare for climate change, our food system can't either. A food system that's fair on the planet must be fair to the people who grow our food. Businesses have a role to play in making that happen. ✍️ Sign our petition calling for a law that holds businesses responsible for environmental damage and human rights abuses in their supply chains. 🔗 Link in bio #DoItFair #FairOnThePlanet #ClimateChange #ClimateJustice #ClimateResilience https://lnkd.in/g8WXNpji

Great to have worked with The Fairtrade Foundation and Trade Justice Movement to get this letter to Andy Burnham. Manchester knows only too well the downsides of international trade!
After weeks of speculation, we're finally going to see what an Andy Burnham government will look like. We've written an open letter to the new PM, reminding him that trade has the power to improve lives, strengthen communities and protect our planet - but only if the system works for everyone. The Fairtrade Foundation welcomes Andy Burnham as the new Leader of the Labour Party and Prime Minister, and urges his government in their first 100 days to ensure UK businesses behave responsibly by setting out a clear path to a mandatory Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD) law. Marie Rumsby, Advocacy Director at the Fairtrade Foundation, said: “The people working hard every day to grow our food deserve fair pay, safe working conditions and protection from the growing risks in global supply chains. What will it take to keep East Africa's Floriculture Industry Competitive, Resilient and Future-ready? That was the focus of the FTA–DFG Side Event at IFTEX Kenya 2026, where producers, buyers, industry leaders and sustainability partners discussed the opportunities and challenges shaping our sector. The conversation highlighted a shared understanding that the future of floriculture depends on collaboration. Producers spoke about rising production, logistics and compliance costs, while buyers reflected on evolving consumer expectations, transparency and increasing sustainability requirements. One message stood out: East Africa's floriculture industry remains globally competitive because of decades of innovation, investment and resilience. Preserving that position will require an enabling business environment, credible sustainability systems and a value chain that shares both the responsibility and value of sustainable production. The discussion also reinforced the importance of telling our industry's story. Every bouquet represents investment in people, communities, environmental stewardship and continuous improvement. Communicating that value more effectively will help strengthen consumer confidence and recognition of sustainable flowers. Thank you to our panellists from DFG, Fairtrade Africa, Kenya Flower Council, Mester Grønn, Penta Flowers, Nini/Herburg Roses and Wildfire Ltd. for their insights and leadership. #IFTEX2026 #Fairtrade #DFG #Floriculture #Sustainability #ResponsibleBusiness #SupplyChain #KenyaFlowers #EastAfrica #Collaboration

Behind every cup of freshly ground Fairtrade coffee at Greggs, there’s more than a supply chain and there are communities already adapting for the future. In Colombia, farmers at the Manizales co-operative are navigating more volatile weather and uncertain harvests as the climate changes. Through Fairtrade, they’re choosing how to invest the Premium they earn, from solar-powered coffee dryers that help protect crops in wetter conditions, to other tools that strengthen their farms over time. It’s about protecting both livelihoods and the future of coffee itself and helping ensure it continues to be grown, and enjoyed, for years to come. At a time when many people are still unsure what meaningful climate action looks like, this kind of steady, farmer-led investment makes a real difference. #Coffee #Partnership #Climate #Greggs #Fairtrade

30 years on, Banana Link is still fighting the same injustices in the banana industry: low prices, climate impacts and social costs that workers are forced to carry. Fairtrade bananas now make up over a quarter of the UK market, proving that fairer trade is possible and influencing wider industry standards. But the work isn’t done. Climate change and disease like TR4 continue to threaten farmers’ livelihoods. Fair prices, strong unions and decent work must be non-negotiable. Fairness shouldn’t be niche. It should be the norm 🍌 #Fairtrade #Bananas #TradeJustice #WorkersRights https://lnkd.in/ecpPA4Hc
