Abstract—Cutting fluids, usually in the form of a liquid, are applied to the chip formation zone ... more Abstract—Cutting fluids, usually in the form of a liquid, are applied to the chip formation zone in order to improve the cutting conditions. Cutting fluid can be expensive and represents a biological and environmental hazard that requires proper recycling and disposal, thus adding to the cost of the machining operation. For these reasons dry cutting or dry machining has become an increasingly important approach; in dry machining no coolant or lubricant is used.

The objectives of this paper are to develop structural modeling, finite element analyze and the optimization of the connecting rod for robust design. The structure of connecting rod was modeled utilized SOLIDWORKS software. Finite element modeling and analysis were performed using MSC/PATRAN and MSC/NASTRAN software. Linear static analysis was carried out to obtain the stress/strain state results.

Based on variance analyses of First-and Second-Order RSM models, most influential design variable is feed rate. Optimized cutting force values are subsequently obtained from model equations. FEA model shows distribution of cutting force.

Abstract: This paper presents development of mathematical model for prediction of heat affected z... more Abstract: This paper presents development of mathematical model for prediction of heat affected zone (HAZ) and optimisedparameters for air plasma cutting operation on AISI 6061 aluminium alloy. Experimental and predictive values from RSM arefound of same trend. Partial swarm optimisation (PSO) was employed to optimise cutting parameters. Deviation of HAZobtained by optimised HAZ model is 2.72%. Optimum cutting parameters for minimum HAZ are: output current, 100 A; stand-off gap, 1 mm and pressure, 620.52 kPa.
