Rising Input Costs Put Process Efficiency Back in Focus Rising raw-material costs have become the leading concern for manufacturers, according to the National Association of Manufacturers’ latest outlook survey. More than 83% of respondents identified increased material and input costs as a major business challenge—a substantial increase from the previous quarter. For fastener manufacturers, material costs have an immediate effect. When steel and other inputs become more expensive, scrap, tooling performance, process variation, and rejected production all carry a higher price. Manufacturers cannot control every change in the cost of raw materials. They can, however, focus on the amount of value produced from those materials. That places renewed importance on reducing scrap, extending tooling life, maintaining consistent processes, detecting defects earlier, and minimizing avoidable downtime. In a higher-cost environment, incremental improvements across production can have a meaningful effect on margins and competitiveness. Manufacturers Aren't Just Buying More Equipment—They're Buying Smarter Equipment The latest manufacturing technology order data points to an interesting trend. While machinery investment remains strong, the value of equipment orders is growing faster than the number of machines being purchased. That suggests manufacturers aren't simply expanding capacity—they're investing in equipment with greater levels of automation, integration, and capability. For many facilities, the objective isn't just producing more parts. It's producing them more consistently, reducing setup time, minimizing downtime, and making better use of skilled labor. As workforce challenges continue and production demands evolve, investments in smarter equipment can provide long-term gains in productivity and quality. Technology alone doesn't solve every manufacturing challenge, but thoughtful investments in automation can help position companies for sustained growth. Where are you seeing the biggest opportunities for automation in today's manufacturing environment? https://lnkd.in/gmq_cuzx #Manufacturing #Automation #SmartManufacturing #MachineTools #Industry40 #IndustrialAutomation #ManufacturingTechnology #ContinuousImprovement #Productivity

Factory Production Is Growing—The Question Is Whether Capacity Can Keep Up Recent Federal Reserve data shows U.S. manufacturing output was essentially unchanged in June, but looking at the broader picture tells a different story. Factory production expanded at an annualized 4.7% during the second quarter—the strongest quarterly growth in five years. For manufacturers, that's an encouraging signal. Sustained production growth doesn't just increase demand for raw materials. It also puts greater emphasis on machine uptime, process consistency, preventive maintenance, and the ability to scale efficiently as order books grow. Preparing for increased production isn't always about adding more equipment. Often it's about getting more out of the equipment already on the floor through better processes, smarter automation, and reducing unplanned downtime. As manufacturers continue investing for the future, operational efficiency may become just as important as production capacity. How is your organization preparing for sustained manufacturing growth? https://lnkd.in/gga_xUvA #Manufacturing #IndustrialAutomation #Operations #ContinuousImprovement #LeanManufacturing #FactoryOperations #Productivity #ManufacturingIndustry #Industry40

U.S. Manufacturing Has Expanded for Six Straight Months. What Comes Next? The latest ISM Manufacturing PMI shows U.S. manufacturing expanding for the sixth consecutive month—a positive sign that demand continues to recover. But one detail stood out to us: production and new orders are growing faster than employment. That suggests many manufacturers aren’t planning to solve higher demand by simply adding more people. Instead, they’re looking for ways to increase output with the workforce they already have. Across manufacturing, that often means investing in automation, improving process consistency, reducing downtime, and finding opportunities to increase throughput without sacrificing quality. Growth is encouraging, but sustainable growth depends on operational efficiency. As the market continues to recover, the companies that improve productivity today may be the ones best positioned to capitalize on tomorrow’s demand. What changes is your facility making to prepare for continued growth? https://lnkd.in/eHRkwz2G #Manufacturing #IndustrialAutomation #OperationalExcellence #ContinuousImprovement #ManufacturingIndustry #Industry40 #Automation #LeanManufacturing #Production

Manufacturers Are Investing Again—Machine Orders Continue to Climb Recent data from AMT shows U.S. manufacturing technology orders continuing to rise, with machine orders significantly ahead of last year’s pace. Capital equipment is often one of the clearest indicators of confidence—companies don’t make these investments unless they expect production demand to justify them. What’s particularly interesting isn’t just that manufacturers are buying new equipment. It’s why. Many facilities are focused on increasing capacity, improving consistency, reducing downtime, and addressing ongoing labor challenges through smarter production processes. Whether the investment is a new machine, upgraded controls, inspection technology, or process automation, the common objective is the same: produce more efficiently while maintaining quality. The question isn’t simply whether manufacturing is growing. It’s how manufacturers are choosing to prepare for that growth. Where do you see manufacturers investing the most right now—capacity, automation, quality, or something else? https://lnkd.in/g2XJ28Xb #Manufacturing #MachineTools #IndustrialAutomation #SmartManufacturing #ManufacturingTechnology #Production #FactoryAutomation #CapitalEquipment #Industry40
