Sometimes, the symptoms of eating disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) look similar. In these instances, it can be difficult for providers to determine which condition a patient may be struggling with, or if the two conditions are co-occurring. This overlap is more common than you might think: up to 35% of those with eating disorders also have OCD, with particularly high rates for restrictive eating disorders like anorexia and ARFID. In order to effectively treat these patients, it’s vital for providers to understand the complex relationship between OCD and eating disorders, and best practice treatment approaches when both diagnoses are present. Our upcoming Equip Academy webinar explores this topic in-depth, unpacking: 💭Why eating disorders and OCD commonly co-occur 🔍How to differentiate between and diagnose the two conditions 🧠How malnutrition impacts neurobiology and OCD-like behaviors 🔗What properly sequenced treatment looks like …and more Join us for this free, CE-eligible session, presented by Maria La Via, MD, Director of Psychiatry at Equip. Event details: 📅 Tuesday, July 14, 2026 ⏰ 12:00pm PT / 3:00pm ET Duration: 90 minutes Equip Academy is built for busy clinicians looking for accessible, high-quality education on eating disorders. Through our partnership with TPN.health eligible attendees can earn free CE or CME credits—whether attending live or on-demand. 👉 Learn more and register: https://lnkd.in/eKA2HtaR We hope to see you there!

This session will share practical strategies for engaging families (including when support is limited) and compare at-home recovery options with traditional treatment settings. Event details: 📅 Thursday, June 18, 2026 ⏰  12:00pm PT / 3:00pm ET  Duration: 90 minutes Can’t join the event live? Why is recovery a matter of luck? I've been asking that since I was diagnosed with anorexia at ten years old, cycling through care that didn't work, until my family found something that did. I had every advantage, and recovery still came down to luck. That’s never sat right with me. This week, the National Eating Disorders Association honored me with their Inspire Award, and I accepted it on behalf of everyone who's made it possible to start answering that question differently. My co-founder, Erin Parks, Ph.D. Our Equipsters. The families who've trusted us with their kids. The clinicians who stayed in this field when it would have been easier to leave. And every patient who chooses recovery on the hardest days. What still keeps me up is the fact that eating disorders carry one of the highest mortality rates of any mental illness, and most people who need care still don't get it. Communities of color, men and boys, people in large bodies, or people in rural areas are too often missed, misdiagnosed, or told this isn't an illness when it absolutely is. We won't stop until every one of them knows care is for them, too. Awards are nice, but the work is what matters. We're going to keep at it until recovery reaches every person who needs it. 💙

When a young patient presents with selective eating, it can be tough to tell: is it a normal developmental phase, or a diagnosable eating disorder requiring targeted intervention? Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) affects an estimated 3-5% of children, yet many clinicians feel uncertain about how to confidently identify it in patients, or what to do next if you suspect a patient has ARFID. Our upcoming Equip Academy webinar helps fill those gaps, giving providers the practical, evidence-based information they need to spot ARFID and support patients who are struggling. Join us for this free, CE-eligible session, presented by Jessie Menzel, Clinical Psychologist and SVP of Clinical Programs at Equip.  In this 90-minute session, you’ll learn: • Clear criteria to distinguish ARFID from developmentally typical picky eating • Defined treatment goals for patients with selective eating • Evidence-based strategies to support dietary expansion • Real-world applications to help translate knowledge into practice Event details: 📅 Date: May 15, 2026 ⏰ Time: 1pm PT / 4pm ET Duration: 90 minutes Equip Academy is built for busy clinicians looking for accessible, high-quality education on eating disorders. Through our partnership with TPN.health, eligible attendees can earn free CE or CME credits—whether attending live or on-demand. 👉 Learn more and register: https://lnkd.in/gv7s6zFx  We hope to see you there!

Eight years of research, 26 studies, and over 6,000 young adults: a new meta-analysis in Health Communication finds that exposure to fitspiration WORSENS body image and pushes people toward restrictive eating and over-exercise. Turns out "fitspo" is not inspirational afterall. One limitation the authors flag is that 89% of participants were women, and that's the gap I want to highlight. Our Equip team has previously released data on how more than 1,000 MEN experience fitness culture, social media, and disordered eating, and the findings nearly mirror the females in the meta-analysis: 76% feel anxious about missing a workout 65% believe working out for hours a day is "discipline" 59% exercise to compensate for eating 38% have skipped meals to afford gym memberships or supplements 50% couldn't reliably tell when an image was photoshopped The controlled studies show that fitspiration makes people feel worse and pushes them toward restriction—something we've been seeing for quite some time. Men are also experiencing this, and they account for one in three eating disorders. The research is telling the same story, and the cultural conversation needs to catch up. https://lnkd.in/gs3zSBkv
