Research starts with a question, and that question determines whether EHR data, closed claims data, or both provide the right lens for the study. Closed claims offer insight into cost, coverage, and utilization. EHR data provide the clinical context behind what happened, why it happened, and how a patient’s condition changed over time. For many studies, linking both creates a more complete view of the patient journey. Our latest perspective from Emily Webber explores how choosing the right data from the start can lead to stronger real-world evidence: https://tr.vet/44Kn5xG

⚾ Baseball and softball season is in full swing, but which injuries most often send players to the doctor? We analyzed more than 22,000 baseball- and softball-related injury encounters. Face and head injuries were the most common, followed closely by upper-extremity injuries. Younger children experienced the highest proportion of face and head injuries, while concussions were most common among players ages 14 to 18. 🤔 Could GLP-1 medications influence alcohol-related outcomes? Today, a new study was published in BMJ Open using Truveta Data analyzed more than 40,000 adults with alcohol use disorder and either type 2 diabetes or obesity. We sat down with one of the study's co-authors, Hemalkumar Mehta, PhD to learn what they uncovered. Researchers found that patients who initiated newer GLP-1 receptor agonists, including semaglutide and tirzepatide, had lower rates of alcohol-related emergency department visits and hospitalizations than those receiving alternative treatments. Using target trial emulation, the study adds rigorous real-world evidence to an emerging area of research. 🔗 Read the full paper: https://tr.vet/4ffZXgx

As of June 30, more than 8% of all US prescriptions were for GLP-1s, according to the latest GLP-1 monitoring report from Truveta Research. Prescriptions for GLP-1s have increased 5.6% since our last report. Tirzepatide remained the leading anti-obesity and anti-diabetic medication by prescription volume and saw the largest increase in prescribing. Following its FDA approval in April, prescribing of the Foundayo pill also continued to grow 📈 Meanwhile, first-time anti-obesity semaglutide prescribing declined 13.3% from March to June, after rising more than 50% during the previous quarter. 🔗 Read the full report: https://tr.vet/4b2wwMr

Shortly after the FDA approved oral semaglutide in December 2025, oral orforglipron (sold as Foundayo) was approved on April 1, 2026. In this first real-world analysis of Foundayo uptake, Truveta Research found that: 💡 Over 2 in 5 patients starting the medication had no prior evidence of GLP-1 use. 💡 More than 90% of prescriptions came from general practice clinicians and advanced practice providers, highlighting early adoption in primary care. 🔗 Read the full analysis: https://tr.vet/3TazfND

It's #AIAppreciationDay, and we’re reflecting on how healthcare AI is evolving from prediction to partnership. The greatest opportunity is not replacing clinicians and researchers. It is expanding what they can see, accelerating discovery, and giving them more time to focus on judgment, care, and the questions that matter most. Our latest perspective from Chief AI Officer Anand Oka explores how agentic AI, real-world data, rigorous evaluation, and human expertise can work together to support better science, better decisions, and better health outcomes: https://tr.vet/4pl0XDe
