I recently had the opportunity to attend Intersolar Europe 2026 in Munich—one of the world's largest exhibitions for the renewable energy industry. One observation stood out consistently across the exhibition. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁, 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆. 🔋 Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) emerged as one of the biggest themes throughout the event. In India, BESS is often discussed primarily as a tool for energy cost arbitrage between off-peak and peak tariff periods. While that is certainly an important application, the global perspective is much broader. BESS is rapidly becoming a critical component of modern energy infrastructure by enabling: • Greater renewable energy integration • Peak demand management • Grid flexibility and stability • Backup power and energy resilience • Better utilisation of renewable assets • Improved power quality and reliability Alongside this, Energy Management Systems (EMS) are emerging as the intelligence layer that orchestrates solar, batteries, utility grids, diesel generators, EV charging infrastructure, and flexible loads into one integrated energy ecosystem. For me, Intersolar wasn't just an exhibition of new products—it was a glimpse into how the energy transition is evolving. 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. At ZERTIFIER®, we are committed to strengthening Europe’s clean energy supply chains. Thanks to the support of the RENEW-BOOSTER Eurocluster, we will validate and scale NODE-RES, a new development within Zerti Power® that combines secure edge intelligence with a sovereign Virtual Power Plant (VPP) architecture for the photovoltaic and energy grids sectors. By deploying intelligent NODE devices across several PV plants, Zerti Power® will enable real-time monitoring, trusted data traceability and coordinated operation of distributed renewable assets. The inauguration of the Hydrogen Valley of Civitavecchia marks another important milestone in the development of Italy’s hydrogen ecosystem. Developed by CFFT - Logistics and supported by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the project integrates hydrogen production, compression, storage and distribution within a single site. With a capacity of up to 200 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year, it will support the decarbonisation of logistics, heavy-duty mobility and industrial applications. Among the technologies enabling the project is an AEM electrolyser developed by Ansaldo Green Tech. Powered by renewable electricity from a dedicated photovoltaic system, it contributes to the production of green hydrogen while combining efficiency and operational flexibility. Projects like this demonstrate how innovation, industrial expertise and collaboration across the value chain can accelerate the energy transition and contribute to building a more sustainable energy system. TOPCon Is Everywhere. But Do You Know Why It Has Become the Industry Standard? Just a few years ago, PERC technology dominated the global solar market. Today, if you attend any renewable energy exhibition or speak with module manufacturers, one term comes up repeatedly: TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact). So, why has the industry shifted so quickly? The answer is simple: higher efficiency and better long-term performance. Compared to conventional PERC modules, TOPCon technology generally offers: Higher module efficiency Improved bifacial performance Better temperature behavior Lower degradation over the module's lifetime Higher energy yield in many real-world conditions For project developers, this can translate into more electricity generated from the same available land. However, it's important to remember that technology alone doesn't guarantee performance. The final outcome depends on: Manufacturing quality Cell consistency Encapsulation materials Quality control Installation practices O&M throughout the plant's life The lesson? Don't buy a module just because it says "TOPCon." Evaluate the complete product, the manufacturer's quality systems, applicable certifications, and the supplier's technical support. Technology creates potential. Quality delivers results.
