New data presented at #AAIC26 suggest a blood test could help bring highly accurate Alzheimer’s diagnosis into everyday clinical care. In a real-world study involving more than 1,300 patients and 165 physicians, access to blood biomarker results improved diagnostic accuracy in both primary and specialist care. Primary care doctors reached around 90% accuracy after seeing the results, close to the performance of dementia specialists. The findings also changed diagnoses in around one-third of patients and influenced care plans in more than half. The results could help reduce delays, referrals and long waits for people seeking answers about memory and thinking problems. Researchers in the United Kingdom are using the PrecivityAD2® blood test to prepare for the future acceleration of diagnosis and clinical decision-making in either primary care or for patients waiting to see dementia specialists. The collaboration is occurring through C2N’s partnership with the Davos Alzheimer's Collaborative (DAC). DAC’s Healthcare System Preparedness program has started the Accurate Dx program. Imperial College London is the only United Kingdom center. The study is designed around testing the accuracy of PrecivityAD2® in primary care pathways for dementia diagnosis, placing this new technological approach directly within primary care research sites, rather than in hospital or specialist settings, for a quicker and more accurate diagnosis early in disease stages. https://lnkd.in/ehmH8n4r #Alzheimers #UnitedKingdom #NHSAlzheimers

A study in Alzheimer's & Dementia asks how often clinicians follow up on memory concerns raised during the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit. Using electronic medical records from an academic health system, the researchers examined 1,411 patients who newly reported memory concerns (average age 78; 63% women). Few received a formal cognitive assessment (5.4%), a specialist referral (2.1%), or both (0.4%), and adjusted analyses found no significant differences by sociodemographic characteristics. The authors highlight a missed opportunity to leverage the Annual Wellness Visit for timelier detection of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. https://lnkd.in/dqngN_SU

Knowing the blood test results led doctors to change diagnoses or care management decisions for more than half of primary care patients and nearly half of specialty care patients. Here’s why that gives us hope: People experiencing memory and thinking problems often face long waits and multiple referrals before receiving a diagnosis. As part of a doctor's evaluation for memory and thinking problems, accurate blood tests could help bring answers sooner—opening the door to earlier and better treatment, care and planning.

Their presentation, "Beyond the Diagnosis: Multidisciplinary Management of LBD Across the Disease Continuum," highlighted the importance of comprehensive, team-based care for individuals living with Lewy body dementia.
