After meeting with strategic partners, technology leaders, and members of the broader Dutch high-tech ecosystem, one message stood out: 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁. Building breakthrough technologies requires far more than a great idea or a strong engineering team. Success depends on an entire ecosystem of universities, research institutes, suppliers, manufacturing partners, customers, investors, and policymakers working together. The Netherlands has built a remarkably strong ecosystem around deep technology, combining expertise in semiconductors, photonics, advanced manufacturing, materials, and high-tech systems within a uniquely concentrated geographic region. A particular highlight of the summit was the Discover Dutch DeepTech pavilion, organized by Techleap, RVO - Netherlands Enterprise Agency, and TNO. By presenting Dutch innovation collectively rather than individually, these initiatives help companies access international opportunities that would be difficult to create alone. At CoolSem Technologies, we are fortunate to be part of a strong and supportive innovation ecosystem. I have been active in deep tech for more than 10 years, and one thing is clear to me: technology alone is never enough. Especially in semiconductors and photonics, the route from idea to adoption is long, complex and full of dependencies. Europe is not short of ideas. It is now trying to build the next generation of global innovation giants. A recent report from Innovation News Network highlighted the European Innovation Council Summit, where founders, scientists, investors, and EU leaders came together to showcase technologies across prosthetics, renewable energy, AI, quantum computing, and sustainable materials. But the bigger story is not just the technology. It is the shift from invention to scale. The summit featured innovation across very different sectors: 🦿 Robotics-powered prosthetics helping amputees walk more naturally 🌊 Wave energy systems turning ocean movement into renewable power 🤖 AI tools helping companies prepare complex enterprise data for AI adoption ⚛️ Quantum computers opening new possibilities in materials, drug discovery, and advanced computing 🍃 Packaging materials made from fallen leaves instead of traditional raw materials This is what enterprise innovation should look like. Not innovation as a buzzword. But innovation as a bridge between: 🔬 Science and market adoption 🏭 Research and commercial scale 🌍 Technology and real-world impact ♻️ Sustainability and business growth 🚀 Deep tech and strategic competitiveness The launch of the Scaleup Europe Fund is also an important signal. Because innovation does not stop at invention. The real challenge is turning promising ideas into companies that can scale, compete globally, and create long-term impact.
