Exciting news for the Triangle! 🚀 Despite talks of a stall in the broader job market, the economic outlook for our region is looking incredibly bright. A recent announcement highlights AbbVie's massive $1.4 billion investment to build a new 185-acre pharmaceutical manufacturing campus right here in Durham. According to NC Secretary of Commerce Lee Lilley, Durham beat out several other competitive cities to secure this massive investment, cementing North Carolina’s position at the forefront of the global life sciences industry. Here is a breakdown of why this is such a game-changer for our local economy: 🏗️ 2,000 construction jobs will be generated during the development phase alone. 💼 730+ permanent, high-quality roles (including engineers, scientists, and lab technicians) will be created over the next few years. 💰 6-figure salaries, with the average pay for these new positions sitting at an impressive $118,000. Local leadership is already celebrating the impact this will have on our community. Durham Mayor Leonardo Williams expressed major excitement about the lasting impact this investment will have on residents for generations to come. Additionally, Joshua Gunn, Director of Economic and Workforce Development, highlighted that AbbVie will be recruiting highly for local talent, creating genuine, life-changing pathways for economic mobility right in our backyard. This is a massive win for Durham, a testament to our incredible local workforce, and a much-needed positive boost for the Triangle's job market. The future is bright! 🧬🏙️ Check out the article here: https://lnkd.in/egdBDDmx Thoughts on the continued growth of the life sciences sector in our region? Here's something students rarely get: direct access to the people who are actually responsible for hiring them. In the "HR & Talent" virtual room at Pharm to Table, we'll have Ali Joyce, Program Manager of Early and Emerging Talent Strategy at Ultragenyx, and Kim Warner, Talent Acquisition Specialist for University Programs at BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc.. These are not just HR professionals, they are the people who are specifically focused on bringing early career talent and new graduates into the industry. Participants can ask the questions that don't get answered anywhere else. What does a strong entry-level resume look like? What do hiring managers actually care about? How do you stand out when you have limited experience? This is the room where students can get honest, direct answers from the people making those decisions. This is just one of several rooms available at Pharm To Table and attendees are free to move between them throughout the session. Pharm to Table is a free virtual event on May 1st, 2026 from 12:00 to 1:30 PM PT, open to all students and early-career professionals interested in the life sciences.
