They are essential foundations for modern fashion education. #Research helps us understand market trends, consumer needs, local resources, and industry challenges. #Innovation enables us to transform those insights into new products, sustainable materials, creative business models, and competitive fashion brands. A strong fashion education system should encourage students to: 🔍 Ask questions. 💡 Solve real industry problems. 📊 Make decisions based on evidence. 🌱 Develop sustainable solutions. 🤝 Collaborate with industry and communities. 🚀 Create new opportunities instead of waiting for them. For Ethiopia, research and innovation can unlock the full potential of our rich textile heritage, indigenous craftsmanship, natural resources, and emerging creative talent. If we want to build a globally competitive fashion industry, we must move beyond teaching how to make garments. We must also teach how to create knowledge, solve problems, and lead innovation. Innobid and Centafrique Consulting are entering a strategic partnership to design and deliver capacity building programmes that strengthen #MarketAccess and advance #CircularEconomy practice for women and youth-led MSMEs in #Kenya. The partnership brings together Innobid's AI-enabled e-procurement platform and hands-on experience preparing entrepreneurs to compete for tenders and trade opportunities, with Centafrique Consulting's pan-African advisory footprint and deep expertise in green economy work; including climate and green finance, circular economy, just transition, and climate-smart agriculture. There is a talent gap in Asia's sustainability sector. Everyone in this space privately knows it. Almost no one is solving it at the right level. 📍Green Input-Output Training in Bogor, Indonesia, June 24-26, 2026📍 Ulrike Lehr, Christian Lutz, and Gerd Ahlert from GWS – Gesellschaft für Wirtschaftliche Strukturforschung presented the results of the first Green Input-Output (GIO) table for #Indonesia. They engaged in in-depth discussions with participants from the planning ministry, line ministries and institutions as well as academia regarding green extensions and resulting analytical possibilities, working through examples. 💡 The training was developed in close collaboration with the project partner Center of Reform on Economics (CORE) Indonesia and part of a project on #Green growth diagnostics commissioned by GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN. Close coordination with Indonesian partners helped identify relevant sectors and inclusion of all available information for quantification.  On the Indonesian side, the project is supported by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Republic of Indonesia). GIZ, especially Oliver Baudler, did an excellent job of planning and facilitating the workshop: Besides work, we had a lot of fun and some great food too! In addition to the 185 sectors of the official IOT for Indonesia, which was compiled by the BPS-Statistics Indonesia, the new GIO includes 23 additional sectors detailing selected #agriculture products, #industry, and #electricity generation. It will enable Indonesia to better quantify the #transition to a green economy, by both using the table itself and through more complex models built upon it. I am pleased to share that my latest research article has been published in the Journal of Management & Social Science. This study goes beyond identifying challenges by proposing a new grounded theory developed through qualitative research. The theory suggests that: "Upgrading Research & Development through effective Research Management for Sustainable Development can significantly enhance the export competitiveness of SMEs." The research highlights how integrating research management, innovation, sustainability, and organizational learning can strengthen SME performance and support sustainable economic development. I hope this work contributes to the ongoing discussion among researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and higher education institutions on building more innovative and globally competitive SMEs. No one should be left behind 🎙️ A transition can be economically efficient and still unfair to the people who do the work. What will it take to prevent that? At the ACE-EX final event in Brussels on 22 June, we put the question to Ivan Ivanov, Political Secretary for Agriculture at EFFAT, the European trade union federation for the sector. ACE-EX is the Erasmus+ alliance behind a European training pathway for the circular economy in agriculture, with 20 partners across nine countries. His starting point is blunt: "a transition does not automatically bring better jobs. It depends on how it is managed.» From there, two conditions. The first is social dialogue: involving workers' representatives in anticipating and managing change, so that no one is left behind. The second is investing in people, making training accessible, because the transition will reshape professional profiles and call for new skills.
