Ecovadis: The Score That Speaks Louder Than Words When I first heard about Ecovadis years ago, I thought, “Another scorecard? Do businesses really care about this?” Fast forward to today, and let me tell you—it’s a game-changer. Here’s a little story. A few years back, I was working with a company that thought their sustainability game was strong. They had initiatives, compliance reports, and all the right buzzwords. But their Ecovadis score? A dismal 42—a red flag for their global clients who were starting to demand proof, not promises. We stepped in with one goal: turn that score into a badge of honor. 1) First, we went through their existing processes. Their Environmental initiatives were top-notch. However, gaps were identified—especially around supplier practices, information security, employee well-being..... 2) Next, we built a roadmap including actionable steps, not just goals. 3) Then, we got to work— teams leaders interaction to highlight the need for ESG actions, preparing policies where required, training teams to think sustainability-first, engaging suppliers, revamping reporting frameworks 4) Lastly, the streamlining of documents/records as per the requirements of Ecovadis was done The result? In 18 months, their score shot up to 67, complying with their customer requirement. Not only did it win them new clients, but it also boosted employee morale—because who doesn’t want to work for a company that’s walking the talk? Here’s what Ecovadis taught me: 1. Sustainability isn’t optional—it’s a competitive advantage. 2. Your score reflects your culture, not just your processes. If you’re cutting corners, it shows. 3. Every step counts. Whether it’s better supplier engagement or improved transparency or small steps taken for employee welfare or the steps taken to ensure Ethics, it all adds up. And we took this journey ourselves streamlining our sustainability practices and achieved Silver medal. Today, when I talk to clients about Ecovadis, I tell them this: Your score isn’t just for your customers—it’s for you. It’s your wake-up call, your mirror, your roadmap to doing better. What’s your take? Have you had wins (or challenges) with Ecovadis? Let’s swap stories and ideas—because at the end of the day, we’re all in this together. 🌍💡

How to Improve Your EcoVadis Score: From Compliance to Competitive Advantage Many companies treat the EcoVadis assessment as a checkbox. But top performers use it as a strategic tool for sustainability leadership. If you're aiming to climb from Bronze or Silver to Gold or even Platinum, here are 5 actionable ways to improve: 1. Strengthen Your Policies Develop formal, documented policies with clear, time-bound sustainability targets. Align them with recognized standards (ISO, UNGC, SBTi) and make them publicly available where possible. 2. Implement Real Actions Don't just say it—show it. Provide evidence of internal training, operating procedures, audits, energy-saving technologies, and supplier engagement. Actions must be implemented and repeatable. 3. Track & Report KPIs EcoVadis rewards transparency. Report on measurable outcomes—GHG emissions, energy use, employee health & safety, etc. Use recent data (within 2 years) and aim for at least 80–95% operational coverage. 4. Upload High-Quality Documents You only get 55 uploads—make them count: Use your company name/logo Include page numbers Avoid combining unrelated files Prefer PDF with accessible text 5. Use the Corrective Action Plan (CAP) Between assessments, update your documents and track progress through the CAP feature. It's your pathway to continuous improvement—and a better score next time. Platinum is possible—but only with structure, commitment, and continuous action. Want help building a score-improving strategy or preparing valid documentation?
