Abstract-Memory and network bandwidth are decisive bottlenecks when handling high-resolution multidimensional data sets in visualization applications, and they increasingly demand suitable data compression strategies. We introduce a novel lossy compression algorithm for multidimensional data over regular grids. It leverages the higher-order singular value decomposition (HOSVD), a generalization of the SVD to three dimensions and higher, together with bit-plane, run-length and arithmetic coding to compress the HOSVD transform coefficients. Our scheme degrades the data particularly smoothly and achieves lower mean squared error than other state-of-the-art algorithms at low-to-medium bit rates, as it is required in data archiving and management for visualization purposes. Further advantages of the proposed algorithm include very fine bit rate selection granularity and the ability to manipulate data at very small cost in the compression domain, for example to reconstruct filtered and/or subsampled versions of all (or selected parts) of the data set.

Parallel simulations decompose large domains into many blocks. A fundamental requirement for subsequent parallel analysis and visualization is the presence of ghost data that supplements each block with a layer of adjacent data elements from neighboring blocks. The standard approach for generating ghost data requires all blocks to be in memory at once. This becomes impractical when there are fewer processors-and thus less aggregate memory-available for analysis than for simulation. We describe an algorithm for generating ghost data for structured grids that uses many fewer processors than previously possible. Our algorithm stores as little as one block per processor in memory and can run on as few processors as are available (possibly just one). The key idea is to slightly change the size of the original blocks by declaring parts of them to be ghost data, and by later padding adjacent blocks with this data.

We present a method for end-to-end out-of-core simplification and view-dependent visualization of large surfaces. The method consists of three phases: (1) memory insensitive simplification; (2) memory insensitive construction of a multiresolution hierarchy; and (3) run-time, output-sensitive, view-dependent rendering and navigation of the mesh. The first two off-line phases are performed entirely on disk, and use only a small, constant amount of memory, whereas the run-time system pages in only the rendered parts of the mesh in a cache coherent manner. As a result, we are able to process and visualize arbitrarily large meshes given a sufficient amount of disk space; a constant multiple of the size of the input mesh. Similar to recent work on out-of-core simplification, our memory insensitive method uses vertex clustering on a rectilinear octree grid to coarsen and create a hierarchy for the mesh, and a quadric error metric to choose vertex positions at all levels of resolution. We show how the quadric information can be used to concisely represent vertex position, surface normal, error, and curvature information for anisotropic view-dependent coarsening and silhouette preservation. The run-time component of our system uses asynchronous rendering and view-dependent refinement driven by screen-space error and visibility. The system exploits frame-to-frame coherence and has been designed to allow preemptive refinement at the granularity of individual vertices to support refinement on a time budget. Our results indicate a significant improvement in processing speed over previous methods for out-of-core multiresolution surface construction. Meanwhile, all phases of the method are disk and memory efficient, and are fairly straightforward to implement.

There currently exist two dominant strategies to reduce data sizes in analysis and visualization: reducing the precision of the data, e.g., through quantization, or reducing its resolution, e.g., by subsampling. Both have advantages and disadvantages and both face fundamental limits at which the reduced information ceases to be useful. The paper explores the additional gains that could be achieved by combining both strategies. In particular, we present a common framework that allows us to study the trade-off in reducing precision and/or resolution in a principled manner. We represent data reduction schemes as progressive streams of bits and study how various bit orderings such as by resolution, by precision, etc., impact the resulting approximation error across a variety of data sets as well as analysis tasks. The ability to browse an information space in a structured way by exploiting similarities and dissimilarities between information objects is crucial for knowledge discovery. Knowledge maps use visualizations to gain insights into the structure of large-scale information spaces, but are still far away from being applicable for searching. The paper proposes a use case for enhancing search term recommendations by heat map visualizations of co-word relationships taken from indexing vocabulary. By contrasting areas of different "heat" the user is enabled to indicate mainstream areas of the field in question more easily.

We propose a variational framework to perform the fusion of an arbitrary number of images while preserving the salient information and enhancing the contrast for visualization. The assumption is that an optimal fused image has a geometry which approximates the geometry obtained from the inputs, while at the same time it maximizes the contrast without introducing over-saturation or contouring effects. Based on this assumption, we construct an energy functional whose minimization will give the perceptually enhanced fused image.

When excavations began at the Chalcolithic site of Palloures in 2015, a fully digital documentation system was implemented with the expectation that it would enhance
efficiency and produce more accurate and detailed data compared to traditional analog methods. Nearly a decade later, this paper evaluates whether these expectations were
met. While digital recording has indeed improved the accuracy and level of detail in archaeological documentation, the large volume of data generated has posed challenges
for accessibility and ease of use. Our experience suggests that the most critical factor in data quality is not just the technology itself but the comfort and efficiency with which
fieldworkers can enter and process information. By designing a documentation system that prioritizes usability—ensuring that digital tools facilitate rather than hinder fieldwork—
archaeologists can engage with digital recording in a manner comparable to traditional methods, mitigating concerns about a loss of embodied experience. While
the system has largely delivered on its initial promises, our experience underscores the substantial investments required, both financially and in terms of labor, as a significant
portion of the team is dedicated to managing digital tasks during excavation.

Analyzing large datasets is a difficult task in data analysis. For this many techniques have been proposed to display data in such a way that analysis can be done easily. There are many techniques used for data visualization, like geometric, icon based, hierarchical, graph based (line graph) and pixel oriented visualization techniques. In pixel oriented technique a single pixel is represented by a single data value and pixel color depends on the scale of data value i.e. if its scale is high then pixel is represented with light color and if the scale is low then it is represented with dark color. Visualizing large amount of data onto the screen is a challenge, because large data sets cannot be displayed on single screen at a time. There are two different types of pixel oriented techniques, query dependent and query independent pixel oriented techniques. Query dependent pixel oriented visualization technique are circle segment visualization technique, spiral and generalize spiral technique. A hierarchical technique: circle view technique is like a pie chart. For better visualization new technique is proposed by combining the idea of circle segment and circle view technique. This will enhance visualization technique and will display the data in circle form. The circle will be divided into segments and sub segments. This technique will display time series data in pixel oriented visualization for better analysis.

Resumo -Este artigo propões um modelo computacional para o cálculo e visualização da densidade mineral óssea a partir de imagens convencionais de raios-X. A idéia inicial é obter um intervalo de valores resultante do processamento e segmentação das imagens médicas e, aplicá-los como valores de entrada em um sistema fuzzy intervalar, modelado especificamente para atender essa necessidade. Esta proposta faz parte de um projeto maior intitulado Projeto M-IPE (Medical Information Processing Environment), cujo objetivo principal é prover o processamento e simulação de aspectos dinâmicos baseado em informações médicas.

Formal concept analysis (FCA) is a method based on lattice theory, widely used for data visualization, data analysis and knowledge discovery. Amino acids (AAs) are chemical molecules that constitute the proteins. In this paper is presented a new and easy way of visualizing of the structure and properties of AAs. In addition, we performed a new Hydrophobic-Polar classification of AAs using FCA. For this, the 20 proteinogenic AAs were clustered, classified by hydrophobicity and visualized in Hasse-diagrams. Exploring and processing the dataset was done with Elba and ToscanaJ, some FCA tools and Conceptual Information System (CIS).

Jelen tanulmányunk célja, Eger város egy kiválasztott mintaterületén megfigyelhető épületkárok detektálása, különös tekintettel a talajvízhez és a geomorfológiai folyamatokhoz köthető károkra. A kutatás során terepi felmérést végeztünk és dokumentáltuk az épületeken megfigyelhető károsodási formákat. A terepi vizsgálat előtt térinformatikai módszerekkel beazonosítottuk a potenciálisan veszélyeztetett területeket. A térképi eredményt a terepi adatokkal validáltuk, így összevetettük a modell alapján kijelölt potenciális kockázatot a valóságban tapasztalt károsodásokkal. Így ez a módszer lehetővé tette a térinformatikai elemzés pontosságának ellenőrzését, valamint a valós kockázati területek pontosabb lehatárolását. A kutatás eredményei hangsúlyozzák a természetföldrajzi tényezők szerepét az épített környezet állapotának alakulásában, valamint alapot nyújtanak a jövőbeni megelőzési és beavatkozási stratégiák kidolgozásához.

A 2025. évi konferencia cikkünkben sikerült az Alsó-Tarna-völgyben félig kötött futóhomok formákat igazolnunk a SURFER 13 és 28.2.275 verziójú szoftverek; szerkesztett DTM-ek; az I., II. és III. katonai felvételezések és a 1:10 000 méretarányú kartográfiai térképek (1990) alkalmazásával és elemzésével. Jelen tanulmányunk célja, e kutatás folytatásaként, a Tarnaszentmária és Tófalu között fekvő mintaterületen, a pleisztocén elejétől a riss glaciálisig (2,58 Ma – 335 ka) épülő nagyobb hordalékkúp felszabdalódási folyamatainak és bizonyítékainak feltárása térinformatikai módszerekkel.
Kutatásunk során geológiai, geomorfológiai, talajtani és genetikus üledéktani bizonyítékok térbeli rendszerét elemeztük a SURFER 13. és 30. GIS-szoftver alkalmazásával.

Human-AI collaboration in creative industries marks a paradigm shift in cognitive processing architectures. This study proposes a cognitively grounded framework for how human animators and AI systems co-create character animation through distributed cognitive mechanisms. Using a longitudinal case study of the Ice Age film series , we trace the evolution from traditional keyframe animation to hybrid human-AI workflows. We introduce Ten Principles of Animation for the AI Era, modeling the cognitive interplay of human creative intention and algorithmic mediation. Extending Carter's concept of Aesthetic Harmony into Computational Aesthetic Harmony (CAH), we provide a framework for evaluating collaborative outputs. The principles show how human strengths in narrative reasoning, contextual judgment, and aesthetic evaluation align with AI's capabilities in pattern recognition, optimization, and simulation. Findings suggest that effective collaboration sustains human metacognitive control while leveraging AI efficiency, with implications for animation education, distributed cognition, and ethical creative practices.

Computational simulation in fluid dynamics often requires high performance and massive data intensive process. In addition, advanced expertise to manage complicated simulation processes with various environmental conditions in order to obtain reasonable results is essential but not easy to achieve. This paper presents an e-Science Aerospace Integrated Research System (e-AIRS) that aims to use Grid technology to establish an integrated and collaborative environment to enable distributed computational simulation and remote experiments for remote scientists in aerospace area. e-AIRS provides easy-to-use portal services to manage workflow-based experiment process from application design, execution, monitoring, and visualization for Grid applications.

In all areas of human activity, decision-making based on data analysis is very important. As the availability of data grows, it becomes critical to educate not only traditional students but also those individuals who are now in the workforce, as many of them are expected to manage the complex data streams and to provide evidence and guidance for organizational action. We consider several technological tools that prepare the learners with data analytic skills. Among them are data analysis and visualization tools, Six Sigma, and operations research methods. We provide a survey of respective software systems suitable for a broad audience.

The wide adaptation of the Semantic Web and the Resource Description Framework (RDF) has made available many important datasets. The SPARQL query language facilitates the exploration of this information, which is available in a semi-structured way that does not comply with relational data models, deviating from exploration techniques that most researchers are familiar with. Usually, only people with training and extensive knowledge of the RDF model can explore and understand it in depth. We present here a platform that supports the users with querying, exploring and visualizing information available in SPARQL endpoints. A dedicated visualization module, built upon a knowledge database, allows us to provide case-specific visualization solutions for SPARQL query results. The selection is based exclusively on features extracted from the result, without any knowledge about the structure, content and characteristics of the underlying dataset. • Information systems → Decision support systems.

This study presents the first automated robotic system for PSP without the need for an external tracking system. The proposed system utilizes a U-Net-based framework to segment 2d US images and reconstruct 3D anatomy features, enabling visualization of the spinal structure. Then, the desired screw trajectories are automatically registered to the 3D reconstruction. By employing this robot-assisted system, the reliance on guide-tube-based approaches is eliminated, reducing the physical demands of the procedure and allowing the surgeon to focus more on planning and evaluation rather than execution. Experimental evaluation on two lamb vertebrae yielded four screw trajectories. The mean 3D error is 2.78 mm at the entry points and 4.82 mm at the stop points. Compared to commercial robotic systems, the use of non-radiation imaging decreases the second harm to the patient and surgeons. Meanwhile, it gets rid of the bone pin, which can lead to an incision in the patient's body.

Outdoor museums of archaeological excavations function as sites of both scientific research and public display. Often, long-term archaeological research means postponing the preparation of the site for visitors. This paper focuses on digital tools for the representation of architectural reconstructions, i.e. possibilities for representing a range of hypotheses regarding the past ambiances of the ancient city. It proposes an augmented immersive revisit of the cultural heritage through mobile devices. Based on mobile phones’ current technical capacities, which enables rendering of 3D content combined with camera input, we developed the proposed mobile AR application for mobile Android devices. TeosAR offers a real-time, in-situ 3D depiction and visualization of architectural artifacts of the ancient city implementing model-based tracking methods.

This study aims to develop a new spatial visualization test (SVT) for second grade primary school students. The study employed the survey design, and the test was developed in accordance with the test development steps. According to the findings obtained as a result of the pilot study, the items were generally high difficulty levels, and they were very good items. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis findings confirmed the three sub-dimensions (mental integration, mental rotation, and paper folding) measuring spatial visualization skills. SVT, which was reduced to 10 items, was administered to 396 students; the KR-20 internal consistency coefficient was 0.63, the average difficulty index was 0.35 and the average discrimination index was 0.48. As a result of the study, a valid and reliable test on spatial visualization for second grade primary school students was obtained and it was concluded that students' spatial visualization was at a low level.

The concept of metaphor, in particular graphical (or visual) metaphor, is central to the field of information visualization. Information graphics and interactive information visualization systems employ a variety of metaphorical devices to make abstract, complex, voluminous, or otherwise difficult-to-comprehend information understandable in graphical terms. This paper explores the use of metaphor in information visualization, advancing the theory previously argued by Johnson, Lakoff, Tversky et al. that many information graphics are metaphorically understood in terms of cognitively entrenched spatial patterns known as image schemas. This paper describes an experiment in which a virtual learning environment was used in the context of an architectural design course. The objective was to evaluate the capability of the learning environment used to support the interactions needed, between teacher-student and between students, for the establishment of a process of discussion and development of architectural design. Some limitations were identified and also positive points, such as the possibility to register the whole design process. These registers allow the design teacher to evaluate his own teaching process and improve it and also the visualization of what kind of intervention the teacher makes and when, making it possible to identify the kind of design processes established by the student and the kind of structure of knowledge which is implicit in a process of teaching/learning architectural design according to the level of development of the design.

Network analysis has been used to classify the interactions between teammates in team sports. However, no dedicated software or application was specifically developed to import, compute and export data in the specific case of sports, as far as we know. Based on that, we intend to propose a new application to visualize and analyze networks in soccer. The Ultimate Performance Analysis Tool (uPATO) allows observing, codifying, importing, visualizing, computing measures and exporting data from the observed games. The user may use a single application to work in the visualization and analysis of the match only considering the network that emerges from the game. In this paper it will be possible to observe the steps to visualize and import data and it will also be described the development of some network measures to characterize the centralities and general properties of unweighted and weighted graphs and digraphs. Finally, data from a real game will be used to test the network measures implemented and to show the values that can be exported and interpreted.

Nitrous oxide is frequently used as a self-pressurizing propellant in hybrid rocket propulsion systems. To study the behavior of these self-pressurized propellant tanks, two different pressure vessels with optical access have been developed that can be filled with nitrous oxide and drained in a way that replicates the conditions of a hybrid rocket motor firing. Carbon dioxide was used as a simulant fluid for nitrous oxide to mitigate explosion and environmental hazards. High speed cameras are used to visualize the internal flow and identify boiling, condensation, and liquid level motion while pressure and temperature sensors are used to determine the thermodynamic state within the tank. Tests have identified two separate temporal regimes that are common to all tests, a transient and steady state, each described by distinct features. The transient regime is characterized by a rapid pressure drop and recovery, with homogeneous condensation of the ullage and heterogeneous nucleation and growth of bubbles in the liquid. The steady state regime begins when a large population of bubbles has been formed in the liquid and a balance is established between nucleation of new bubbles and death of bubbles as they reach the free surface and transfer their mass to the ullage. During this steady state regime the liquid and vapor are both homogeneous two-phase mixtures and the pressure drops in a linear fashion as the liquid drains from the tank. Also presented in this paper are the results of tests of parameter variations, including flow rate, fill level, temperature, initial bubble population, and scaling effects. The same basic features are present in each of these tests.

Abstract
Purpose (plain language): To identify the cause of Type-L layout collapse in LLM-generated C4 architecture diagrams and design an automatic correction filter (RULE-07–11). Additionally, to propose RULE-12 "One-Figure-One-Thesis Principle" as a meta-rule for human–AI collaboration.

This paper extends the Skills Filter Framework (Volumes I–II) to English (Latin/ASCII) environments, demonstrating that Type-L layout collapse in C4 diagrams — caused by violation of the DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph: a graph with directed edges and no closed loops) property required by the Sugiyama hierarchical layout algorithm — is a "language-agnostic structural pathology."

In a controlled comparative experiment using Japanese (N=30 haiku) and English (N=30 sonnets/poems), the pre-filter Type-L incidence rate was statistically indistinguishable between languages (English: 58.0%; Japanese: 60.0%; p=0.74, non-significant). After applying RULE-07–11, Type-L fell to 2.0% (English) and 3.3% (Japanese). RSR (Rendering Success Rate) rose from 31.1% to 95.6% (English; p<0.001). LCI (Language Consistency Index) = 96.7%, TII (Topology Invariance Index) = 97.8%. The control equation E = αC + βW + γD was shown to be formally isomorphic with structural topology optimization (Izui et al., 2018).

Furthermore, RULE-12 "One-Figure-One-Thesis Principle" was derived from the authorship process of this paper itself.

The haptic interaction of humans with soft objects was studied from three perspectives: softness discrimination, force control, and contact visualization. The abilities of humans in actively discriminating softness was measured by using a specimen presenter system which was built to randomly present the specimens. Two experimental paradigms (1-and 2-finger) and three finger conditions (normal, finger cot, and rigid thimble) were used to examine the importance of various sources of information. When using 1 finger, the Just Noticeable Difference (JND) was about 5% for normal and finger cot conditions and increased to about 50% with the thimble. The JND results from 2-finger discrimination were lower than the 1-finger results for both normal and finger cot conditions, but were higher with the thimble. Examination of the forces exerted on the specimens during 2-finger discriminations revealed possible underlying discrimination strategies. In the force control experiments, subjects were asked to exert several levels of constant forces under various finger conditions. The results indicated that the errors from tracking with visual feedback was significantly lower than that without visual feedback. No significant differences in force control were found with either different softnesses or under the three finger conditions. The absolute errors were higher when controlling higher target forces. Significant difference in force control was found between the two hands of the subject who showed handedness in the softness discrimination experiments. For contact visualization, a real-time imaging setup was built which consisted of a videomicroscopy system and a tactile stimulator system. By using this setup, real-time images from the contact region as well as the contact forces were digitized. Various image processing techniques were developed and applied in order to analyze and improve the contact images to distinguish between the contact and non-contact regions. Contact variables such as force, nominal contact area, actual contact area, nominal pressure and actual pressure were analyzed. Based on the visualization of the active slip phenomenon, a hypothesis on the contact pressure distribution was proposed. The developed hardware can be used for evaluating human haptic abilities and providing biomechanical visualizations. The results obtained have implications on the mechanisms of contact and find applications in dextrous robot finger and haptic interface designs as vwell as in various steps involved in the automatic fingerprint identification systemr.s.;

We survey highly experienced professionals from local accounting firms regarding the adoption of and perceived benefits from data visualization in audit practice. Although the majority of respondents have minimal experience with data visualization, local-firm partners have positive perceptions regarding the value that visualization can have on audit quality and client-related benefits. SUMMARYWe survey highly experienced professionals from local accounting firms regarding the adoption of and perceived benefits from data visualization in audit practice. Although the majority of respondents have minimal experience with data visualization, local-firm partners have positive perceptions regarding the value that visualization can have on audit quality and client-related benefits. A Web-based Geographic Information System (WebGIS) is a powerful tool that facilitates geospatial data dissemination and provides data at the client level with ease. Unlike conventional GIS services, WebGIS can disseminate geodata from different branches like Geotechnical, Geoengineering and Remote Sensing, with the assistance of internet services in a dynamic manner. WebGIS has further advantages, including cloud-based storage, real-time data updates and iterative mapping in dynamic ways. Moreover, it facilitates data accessibility and can lead to a more straightforward decision-making process at the policy-making level. Hence, Geo-Information for the Implementation of a Climate Change-Resilient Urbanisation (GICU) project takes the initiative to host a WebGIS that contributes to the development of a proper linkage between research, government and the public, which ultimately leads to sustainable geodata development in Bangladesh.

We present a system for the acquisition, analysis and visualisation of Twitter data. Twitter messages are harvested and stored in a distributed cluster, and the data is processed using algorithms implemented in a MapReduce framework. We present a clustering algorithm capable of identifying the main topics of interest in a tweet data set. Also, we designed a visualization method which allows to follow the intensity of twitter activity at a given geographical location.

This article presents a conceptual architecture for a C4ISR maritime intelligence system based on open-source intelligence (OSINT) data. The text analyzes contemporary challenges to maritime security, such as navigation spoofing, "dark vessels", and illegal transfers on the high seas. As a solution, an intelligent platform for automated multi-domain analysis is proposed, including kinematic, hydrodynamic, radar, and acoustic modules. The system coordinates a tactical response through autonomous drone swarms and ensures full legal validity of the collected evidence via a cryptographic registry. The architecture is cyber-secured through isolated minimalist container environments and hardware locking. The main conclusion is that strategic advantage in the ocean is shifting toward decentralized transparency and algorithmic speed, displacing the traditional state monopoly.

To bridge the gap between high-tech engineering practice and low-tech engineering pedagogy, VizClass was established: a university classroom environment incorporating a suite of digital whiteboards, a three dimensional stereoscopic display, and specialized software for engineering visualization. Through observations, interviews, surveys, and examination of student work, we investigated student and teacher attitudes toward VizClass and its effect on teaching and learning processes. Though the project is still under development, initial benefits include increased ability of faculty to visually explain complex problems, increased ability of students to conceptualize engineering problems, and increased engagement of students in after-class collaboration.

he rapid development of artificial intelligence, and particularly of generative artificial intelligence systems, has created new possibilities as well as significant concerns in the field of education. Educational chatbots constitute one of the most characteristic applications of this technological transformation, as they enable natural conversation between the user and a digital system, offering support for learning, teaching and educational design.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the way people search for information, produce texts, organise knowledge and interact with digital environments. In the field of education, the emergence of advanced language models and conversational systems has generated strong interest, as these tools can converse with users, answer questions, formulate educational material and adapt the style of their responses to the learner’s level. Chatbots are not merely a new technological trend. They represent a deeper change in the relationship between human beings, knowledge and machines. Information is no longer sought only through static databases or search engines, but through dynamic forms of dialogue. The user is no longer limited to locating information; they can request explanations, examples, comprehension questions, alternative formulations, activities and personalised support.

We present an interactive visualization tool for generating color schemes that can be used by both professional artists and novice designers to improve their design efficiency. The method is developed on two color harmony principles of familial factors and rhythmic spans from conventional color theories. The interactive tool makes uses of these principles for users to interactively generate colors palettes containing harmonious combinations in the HSL (hue, saturation, and lightness) color space in as few steps as possible. A pilot study with 20 participants has shown that this tool provides efficient workflow, color-scheme harmony, and intuitive interaction, demonstrating the usefulness of the method. This work contributes to an artistic-theory driven harmonious colorscheme generation and to interactive user interfaces visualizing color relationships.
