Repair more. Waste less. Keep products in use for longer. ♻️🛠️ From 31 July, new EU right-to-repair rules start applying, making it easier for consumers to choose repair and extend the life of their products. For products covered by EU reparability requirements — such as smartphones, tablets, fridges and washing machines — the new rules mean: ✅ manufacturers must offer repairs within a reasonable time and at a reasonable price ✅ consumers will have easier access to information about repair services and indicative prices ✅ when manufacturers offer spare parts, these should be available at reasonable prices ✅ consumers who choose repair instead of replacement under the legal guarantee will benefit from an additional year of guarantee for products bought from 31 July 2026. Making repair easier helps products stay in use for longer, reduces waste, saves resources and supports a more #CircularEconomy in the EU. It also complements the EU’s wider work on ecodesign and more sustainable products, including under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), where horizontal ecodesign requirements on product repairability are planned for Q2 2027. In nature, protecting pollinators means helping plants, wildlife and entire ecosystems bloom. The EU is committed to reversing the decline of wild pollinators by 2030. Today is Earth Overshoot Day 🌍   From today onwards, humanity's demand for ecological resources and services exceeds what our planet can regenerate in a single year.   Climate change and biodiversity loss are closely linked with the way we produce, consume and use natural resources. That's why climate and environmental action is essential to move the date of Earth Overshoot Day back.   The EU is taking action by: 🌱 reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 on the path to climate neutrality by 2050 ⚡ accelerating the clean transition 🏡 improving energy efficiency across homes, buildings and industry 🚆 supporting cleaner transport and sustainable mobility 🌍 helping communities adapt and become resilient to climate change 🗑️ reducing waste ♻️ building a competitive #CircularEconomy 💚 protecting our nature and its precious resources Together, we can #MoveTheDate.

Satellite imagery from Copernicus shows the scale of the wildfires currently affecting Spain and France. 1️⃣ A Copernicus Sentinel-3 image acquired on 26 July 2026 captures dense smoke spreading across central and western Spain, where multiple wildfires have led to the declaration of a national emergency. More than 100,000 people have been evacuated or advised to remain indoors across affected regions. Hundreds of firefighters, the Military Emergency Unit (UME), aircraft and helicopters have been mobilised to support emergency response efforts. 2️⃣ In south-western France, two wildfires that broke out near Saumos and Biscarrosse between 22 and 23 July have affected extensive pine forests around Arcachon Bay. The Saumos fire has impacted around 42,000 hectares, with precautionary evacuations carried out across the region. These fires are unfolding amid extreme heat and very dry conditions, which are increasing fire risks across parts of Europe. With further high temperatures expected and little rainfall forecast, authorities remain on high alert. 🔥 Climate change is contributing to more frequent and intense heat extremes and worsening conditions that can amplify the impacts of wildfires. Another step towards a fair and inclusive clean transition. Today, the European Commission endorsed Malta's Social Climate Plan – the fourth national plan approved under the Social Climate Fund. From now until 2032, the plan will mobilise €60.6 million, including €45.4 million from the Fund, which is financed through EU ETS revenues. The measures will: 🏠 Improve the energy efficiency of homes and renovate public social housing ☀️ Support the installation of renewable energy systems 🚌 Expand community transport services for more than 30,000 vulnerable transport users ⚡ Help 865 vulnerable micro-enterprises switch to electric mobility By 2032, the plan is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3,500 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, while helping those most affected by energy and transport costs. Tracking disease risk starts with tracking nature. 🩺🏞️ The European bank vole 🐭 carries a virus that can cause kidney failure and fever in humans. As Europe's climate shifts, new research shows that outbreaks are becoming harder to predict and easier to overlook. The study also found that:  Disease cases have doubled in Western Europe in two decades.  🌡️ Warm summers and mild winters lead to vole population increase.  🌲Mixed and broad-leaved forests are the primary areas where risk is highest.
